This week I was in Seattle for a conference.  I haven’t been there since I was 17, and have been looking forward to this trip most of the year.  In an effort to save money at the conference I did a small Safeway shopping trip when I got in to help cut down on eating out.

Before I say that I should say that I also saved money getting a VRBO.com apartment rental rather than a hotel room.  Most hotel rooms were over $250 a night in the downtown area, and I found something around $150 a night that also included a kitchen and washer/dryer!  That means I can cook and pack less clothes.   I shared this option on a number of Monday night Q&A sessions.  While I’m not opposed to hotels, I have always found rentals to be cheaper with more amenities in larger cities.

Now back to my savings.  I spent right at $25 for a box of cereal, granola bars, coffee, peanut butter and fresh fruit (my favorite snack), and a few frozen entrees.  I found a few coupons on products and stuck to the sale items, but didn’t take any extra coupons out with me.  This fed me for most meals for 5 days!  Life in Seattle (and most big cities) isn’t cheap, the bag of coffee alone probably saved me $25.  There are at least two coffee shops per block that would have loved my money though.

                Gas Shortage on East Coast

                on 9.16.2016 at 2:50pm
                9 Comments

gas-shortageIf you live on the East Coast, you might want to fill up your tanks while you can!

A major pipeline that produces gas to millions of people on the East Coast has leaked and been shut down for several days.

Full service will not be restored until next week, so there is the potential for gas to spike 5¢-15¢ in Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia and 10¢-20¢ in South Carolina over the next week.

There is also the potential some stations might run out, so go ahead and grab some while you can.
