According to a reliable news source (Facebook), school is starting in a few places this week. For us, we’re finishing our first full week of classes. Readjusting our lives to the pace of the school day, hasn’t been too bad, but it is still an adjustment.
Thanks to last week’s focus on lunch, the kids’ lunches have been healthy, varied, and (most importantly) packed the night before! This is a huge change for me. Last year, I was rushing around all morning, shoving food in baggies, trying to remember to feed each child before shoving them out the door 10 minutes late.
One of my favorite changes is our new “order system”. Before the kids head to bed each night, I have them write down or dictate their breakfast, snack, and lunch orders. [Now, don’t think this is anything fancy. They know what we have available and chose from what I have on hand.] I tuck them into bed and head downstairs to pack lunches before watching my nightly BBC fix. Once I get in the groove and routine, I think I can cut down nighttime prep to about 15 minutes, hopefully. So far, this system has helped me pack better lunches, snacks and made mornings go very smoothly. Read More→
Summers in South Carolina are really hot, and we love to treat ourselves every once in a while with something cold and sweet. One of our favorite stops is always SONIC for their shakes. Seriously, I’d stop at Sonic just for their ice I love it so much, but… the best is a milk shake. This summer they added 25 new flavors and dubbed it “The Summer of Shakes”.
They emailed me a month or so ago and asked me if I’d like a gift card to try the shakes and then some to giveaway to you. Did they really think I’d say no to free milkshakes? Turns out the gift card was more than just a fun treat it was exactly what the doctor ordered yesterday. I went in to the dentist for what I thought was pretty routine and left having had gum surgery and put on an all liquid diet for a few days. Enter my SONIC gift card. As the rest of my family ate dinner it was very nice to have a milkshake and not just bland broth. My soul was cheered and my tummy quite happy. I can’t say you will have quite the excuse I did for a milkshake night, but we all need a break every now and then.

I’ll warn you, some of the flavors are interesting – like Peanut Butter & Bacon – but I’m sure that someone will love it. I’m more of an Oreo Cheesecake kind of girl.
