This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Dollar General for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.
You may remember from last month that I am a Dollar General ambassador this year. This has already been eye opening for me as it’s pushed me to shop more regularly in my store. The more time I spend there, the more deals I find!
This month I was given the challenge to have a summer party with a $20 Dollar General budget. My local store doesn’t sell meat, but I was able to get most everything else I needed to have a few families over to join us for hamburgers and hot dogs.
First, you may think “why shop at Dollar General?” Well, many of their regular priced items beat grocery store prices everyday! Plus they take coupons!
I hit the $1 deals first. There are a ton of items regularly a dollar, so you could get stuck here for a while finding deals.

I grabbed BBQ sauce for 50¢ each after a coupon, plus baked beans and brown sugar (which I also had a coupon for). They also had hamburger and hot dog buns on sale for $1. I went ahead and also grabbed paper goods plus a few hefty zipper bags for left overs.

My girls favorite find was Kool-Aid Jammers regularly $2 (a price many grocery stores currently have on sale). Pair this with a current coupon and an Ibotta offer and you’ve got kids drinks for $1.25 a box. My last big find of the day was a huge box of 100 Popsicles regularly $3.25 that had a $1.50 mail in rebate on the box! That ought to cover dessert for our dinner.
I know my mission was entertaining, but I got a little side tracked in the $1 deals, and grabbed some cleaning sponges for 50¢ after coupons and a few FREE Air Wick air fresheners. We’ll call that a required part of getting ready to have company over.
In case you want to get all these deals, head over and see the coupons and deals and print a shopping list.
My last stop was to check out the clearance section. You can never leave Dollar General without at least glancing through everything. This week they had some fun toys and little activities marked 50% off. So we grabbed some paint by number kits, bouncy balls and water toys. Each item was 50¢ or less, some were more like 10¢ so it was hard to not grab them. I may not use them all for our party, but they will be great to put in our OCC boxes this fall!
All in all our dinner party is pretty set. I only spent $15 of the $20 I had, so we’ll probably save the leftover bit for some milk and sweet tea.

Happy first day of summer! I’m pretty sure in my neck of the woods it’s been summer for at least a month, but I’ll take the special day and all the freebies and sales that go with it. We had a simple grocery week this week. No coupons actually just grabbing sales on produce items.
I went to Dollar General and Bi-Lo. Though my DG trip was really paid for by a gift card that was sent for me to share my trip with you guys. So I did. Everything I bought I put into a separate list of deals, and I’ll map out later tonight exactly why I went.
Bi-Lo would be our real trip this week, budget wise. I ran in for produce and yogurt. Sadly they didn’t sell the type of yogurt I wanted (hard to believe I know with the 100 different types of yogurt these days), so we just grabbed produce. I still managed to save a chunk though! I also grabbed a beef roast for Sunday dinner. Wanna come and join us?
Bi-Lo:
Total before sales and coupons: $45.12
Total Spent: $28.93
Total Saved: $16.10 or 36%
I didn’t grab anything that I could have used a coupon on. So no guilt for not couponing. I did miss a few deals that would have been great to grab while we were in the store, but it was one of those unplanned moments to shop. As a mama you take those when you can.
