With gorgeous weather in South Carolina, we had a great week of enjoying the outside and playing.  We planted our second annual garden with peas, squash, corn, carrots and tomatoes.  This year I splurged and bought organic seeds after reading about GMO produce and seeds.  I’m trying to make Amy proud and at least learn something from our organic living series!

We are trying something new this year that goes nicely with our attempts at organic gardening.  We planted the beans, squash and corn all in the same hole.  It’s  called a “Three Sisters” Garden in Native American groups.  The reasoning is that all three plants help each other.  The corn provides something for the beans to grow on, the beans provide stability from the wind for the corn and the squash helps create a natural cover for the ground from weeds, pests, and retain moisture.  There are a number of other benefits too supposedly… so we hoping it helps!

Total our seeds cost around $15.  Lord willing we should easily save that much once everything comes in!

The rest of our spending this week was at Publix.  We grabbed the Colgate $5 gift card promotion with toothpaste and body wash, and also got a ton of produce and meat.

This was for two weeks of groceries.  My goal is to not go shop next week other than a trip to Walgreens I’m planning, and probably won’t make it to the store at all the following week.
