It’s produce time again! We picked up our first box of produce from our local CSA Farm this week, and have already dug into the fresh strawberries and onions.
For groceries this week I hit a wall. We needed food, but I honestly didn’t have the time or energy to get things together to hit the grocery store. So… I decided we would make an Aldi run. I actually don’t promote heavy Aldi shopping because you will get better prices in the grocery store, but in a moment where time and energy play in it is a great second choice.
We spent $61.67 but probably got enough to make around 10 different meals plus a fruit salad to take to a church picnic tomorrow.
What would I have saved with coupons in another store?
Comparing prices I paid to current prices we are seeing in the stores with coupons I probably would have saved an additional $8.56 to buy this in the grocery stores on sale.
I know that’s not a big savings, but you also need to realize how to shop in Aldi to be able to get the savings so close. Their special buys that are national brands aren’t deals at all (you can’t use a coupon plus they are only about 20% off reg. price). You also need to take a price list with you so that you can stay away from some items that are actually the same price as grocery store prices. A few things I saw today were sugar, pistachios, butter and Apple Juice. They were all the same price as a regular price in my local Publix (not a sale price and definitely not with a coupon).
This week I also ran to CVS for free toothpaste, but didn’t go early enough so I left with a rain check. That’s okay though, I’ll grab it in a week or so when we have new Colgate coupons and get an even better deal!

I have a small confession… I have my own collection of comic books. Haven’t bought any in 15 years or so, but I still have all my old ones, and I secretly love all the Comic based movies that have come out! With that out of the bag, you can only guess that I’m thrilled for the new Avenger’s movie coming out May 4th. Now don’t get me wrong, I still won’t see it in theaters, that’s too pricey, but the minute it hits Redbox I’m there!!
Walmart is helping us all get ready a little early for the new Avengers movie. They’ve loaded their website with lots of fun things, like downloadable wallpaper for your computer, free phone apps, masks that you can color and cut out, and quick links to get to all of the past Marvel movies.
In case you are clueless on the Avengers, it is a team of Marvel super heros including Thor, Iron Man, Captain America, and the Hulk. There general theme is that together they “fight the foes no single Superhero can withstand.” I will say that as a true comic fan no movie has lived up to the real stories, but I’m ready to at least see how they did!
Are you going to head to the theaters to see it when it comes out May 4th?
Even if you aren’t planning on letting the kids see it for a while they should at least enjoy pretending to be super heros with the free cut outs and other gear!
The Giveaway:
To help you go Avengers crazy, Walmart is giving a $200 Walmart gift card to one Southern Savers reader. Plus 5 additional winners will win an Avengers poster.
