I told you last week that we needed to save up for this week, and I must say I’m glad we did! Sometimes there just isn’t any way to lower a price further and you just have to pay. My way of saving on those deals, is by saving up money for them. I refuse to never eat a meal again just because I can’t get it for free…
We are making Low Country Boil with 12 people tomorrow night. This isn’t a cheap meal to make for my normal crew of 5, so doubling it doesn’t help. It’s a fun meal for a large group of people though, and incredibly delicious (plus we are always glad to have folks over and cook)!!
I had to purchase everything for it this week and nothing was really on sale so we went to the store that had the largest amount of the purchase on sale, Kroger.
Gulf Shrimp medium, 6 lb bag, $5.99 lb – $35.94
(2) Rogers Smoked Sausage, 24 oz box, $2.84 – $5.68
(2) Red Potatoes, 5 lb bag, $2.99 – $5.98
(2) Corn on the Cob Nibblers, 12 ct., $2.49 – $4.99
(1) Old Bay Crab Boil Seasoning, 6 oz, $3.49
Total = $56.08
The shrimp were on sale $2 off per lb, and so was the corn and potatoes. We also saved by going with the large size of sausage rather than getting more smaller packages.
Total Saved: $15.31
I had other things we needed this week too. That we grabbed from Publix on a different day:
Publix:
Total before sales and coupons: $67.19
Total Spent: $33.10
Total Saved: $34.09
This included the lovely, never on sale, milk and bread and a good amount of produce for two different fruit salads that made this week. So to save right at 50% is awesome!
Weekly Totals:
Before sales and coupons: $138.58
Total Spent: $89.18
Total Saved: $49.40
It’s not impressive looking, but I’m happy. We had saved enough to have $100 this week for everything and still managed to come in a little under. In my book, many times it’s not about getting it all for free, it’s just about getting it to where you can afford it!

In our house, Summertime means endless playtime outside with a bottle of bubbles, lots of bubbles. Imperial toys have helped us take it one step further with their awesome bubbles and new toys. They sent me a set of toys to try out for myself. The good news is… 2 of you will win the same toy package I received.
My 4-year-old’s favorite thing was the Enchanted Tea Set. I put the bubble solution in the tea pot for her, she pours the “tea” into her tea cups (already on the saucer) and she has tons of fun! Not only are the spoons bubble wands, but the bottom of the tea cups are also bubble makers.
Two of our other favorites were the Bubble Turbine and the Glow Fusion Bubble Solution. The Bubble Turbine is really cool… it works kind of like a fan and blows really long bubbles as well as big clusters of bubbles. I am loving that it does all the work and I don’t get covered in bubble juice trying to blow bubbles for the girls all afternoon!
My girls also love the Glow Fusion Bubbles. We took these camping with us last weekend and had a blast in the dark! Anything that glows in the dark is pretty cool in my book. Just mix the solution into their regular bubbles and it shows up really well. I can see us needing a lot of refills of this one!
Honestly, all of the toys we received were really fun and great to play with during the summer. We haven’t hooked up the Ultimate Beach Ball Sprinkler yet, but I know the girls will have a blast with it too.
The Giveaway:
Two Southern Savers readers will win the following prize package:
Enchanted Tea Party Set
Water Beach Ball
Bubble Turbine
8 oz of Super Miracle Bubbles
Hi-Beam Illuminator
Glow Fusion Bubble Solution
