With Easter just around the corner, we’ve seen lots of deals and ideas pop up around here. I just wanted to take a minute and share one of my favorite Easter traditions that we do around our house and a few other ideas.
As some of you might already know, we love our Easter Resurrection Eggs – this is by far our favorite tradition. The girls love to open each egg and tell a part of the Easter story. I’ve also heard of some other fun ideas that we might try this year:
Resurrection Eggs:
The set consists of a dozen colored eggs, each filled with a trinket to symbolize parts of the Easter story. If you have time, I would definitely recommend making your own Easter Resurrection Eggs set or you can order a set from Family Life – this comes with a booklet to walk through the meaning of each symbol in the story.
Take a Nature Scavenger Hunt:
Collect items that remind you of the Easter story. For example, 2 sticks to form a cross, a stone to represent the tomb, a thorn for Jesus’ crown, or a long branch for a whip.
Easter Finger Puppets:
You can make these felt finger puppets with your kids or pack them in their Easter basket. These are fun and simple to create!
Make Resurrection Rolls:
You can make these rolls with your kids before dinner. The empty tomb will have a fun new meaning when the rolls go in with marshmallows inside them and come out of the oven empty!
Make Easter Egg Garland:
There are several ways to do this, but the easiest seems to be using plastic eggs. String the eggs together with quilting thread. Then tie it up with pretty ribbon or lay it on your dinner table.
Easter Egg Encouragement:
Blow out the yolk of an egg and then insert a note of encouragement in the tiny hole. Give these out to your friends.
Easter Egg Hunt with a Twist:
Fill the eggs with different Bible verses from the Easter story. Hide them. Your children will know when they’ve found all the eggs because the story will be complete.
Embroidery Floss Easter Eggs:
Embroider your balloons with embroidery floss to create a fun egg-shaped decoration. Hang them from your curtain rods or use them in a bowl as a centerpiece.
Easter Egg Sidewalk Chalk:
Make egg-shaped sidewalk chalk with your kids – then get out and have some fun over the holiday!
Collage Art:
Create a collage with your children of all that Easter means to your family. This will even be fun to decorate with in the future years!
Cotton Ball Lamb Basket:
Grab craft supplies from around the house and make these cute baskets to hold all the Easter treats.
Easter Nests:
Hand these Easter Nests out for a delicious dessert! You can make them with chow mein noodles or rice krispies.
Send Easter Cards:
Create Easter cards to send to your friends and family. It is always fun to receive snail mail, especially on a non-traditional holiday.
