I have only used Amazon grocery once for a product that I can no longer find in stores but… right now they are having a huge sale on Kashi, Bear Naked, Gen Soy and other products and they are giving instant rebates at checkout on top of the sales. For Kashi and Bear Naked Granola the savings are over 50%. Click Amazon Grocery Deals to see all the deals. For added savings you can sign up for Subscribe and Save and get another 15% off — then cancel later if you really don’t want it.

I just got done putting away all of our groceries from our crazy day of grocery shopping (crazy only because of the three kids that come along with me).  I did not go shopping at all last week and very little the week before so we had extra to spend and some great deals to spend it on.  I went to three stores and got everything from Strawberries to Diapers and Laundry Detergent to Chicken — just so you know I’m not buying the cheapest things in the store.  I won’t list out everything but will give you our totals.

Publix – Total Due before Coupons & Sales: $111.68
    Total Paid after coupons: $33.01
    Savings: 72.7%

    Bi-Lo – Total Due before Coupons & Sales: $103.76
    Total paid after coupons: $57.26
Savings: 44.8%  (not necessarily exciting but we did get a lot of meat)

Kroger – Total Due before Coupons & Sales: $100.60
    Total paid after coupons: $44.64
    Savings: 56%

Overall Total before coupons & Sales: $316.04
Total I paid: $134.91 (we rarely spend over $50 a week so this was a lot for us)
    Total Saved: 58.4% or $181.13

Everything I bought and all the coupons I used were listed on the site.   I will start to list weekly what we are able to save to help everyone see that it really is possible to save over 50% on your groceries most every time you go out!!!

Did you have a great week this week?  Share with us your totals.

              Expired Coupons

Looking for something to do with your expired coupons? Send them to the troops!

An interesting way to support our troops is with our expired coupons.  They are able to use US coupons up to 6 months after expiration dates at their commissaries if they are stationed abroad.  We have decided to adopt a base in Gaeta Italy to mail our coupons too.   As you clean out your coupon folder you can either mail them yourself or I will gladly mail them for you if you would like to just pay US postage rates and mail them to me.

The address for the base directly is:

              Volunteer Coordinator
              Navy FSC
              PSC 811
              FPO AE 09609

You will have to fill out customs forms since it is going over seas.  If you would like me to send your coupons over when I send mine, please email me at jenny (at) southernsavers (dot) com and I’ll send you my address.

              Tips:

              1. Clip all coupons – it decreases mailing weight to only mail the coupons
              2. Sort coupons into two bundles: Food and Non Food (what can be eaten by Humans and what cannot)

                Don’t pass over free items

                Charity (1)

I want you to consider your new grocery savings as a new way to help others.  Just because you might not need an item that is free or just pennies doesn’t mean you should just keep going and not get it.  Remember all the free baby food currently at Food Lion and Publix?  I know your kids might be 6 or grown for that matter, but think of the food banks in your local city or the family down the street even.  Start a box in your pantry to give away and when it gets full take it to the food bank or ask friends if they need things.   Don’t forget to throw in items that you don’t need but where free at CVS too.  There are shelters that would love all the free toothpaste, femine products, shampoo etc.

There is also a way to help others just with all the expired coupons you don’t use… I’ll post more on that later today.
