When you are first getting started trying to cut your grocery budget you really want to try to plan your meals from the items that are on sale that week.   Here is a Meal Plan for the week based on the sales that are starting Wednesday, 8/15, in Publix.

Our goal is to buy items only when they are on sale and to stock up on them to last until the next sale (about 6 weeks).  While you build your stock pile though you need to eat.  Each week I share our family meal plan, for those of you that have been couponing and saving for a while you have a stockpile built up and can eat really whatever meals you want.  We don’t need to watch the sales for this weeks meals, we just need to shop the sales to stay stocked.

Here’s a shopping list with all of the items needed for these recipes (and the coupons that available).

Cauliflower and Sausage Roast

This takes about 30 minutes from start to finish and is delicious.  We skip the creole seasoning from time to time and just do salt, pepper, and garlic.

Cauliflower, $2.50 a bunch
Kiolbassa Smoked Sausage, 13 oz, B2G1 at $5.99
Publix Chunk Cheese, 8 oz, $2.50

Broiled Salmon, Wild Rice, Asparagus

For a fancy feeling meal, I love that you can have this on the table in less than 20 minutes!  This is our favorite Salmon recipe using a mustard herb glaze, though we also like this one with honey and garlic.  If you have never broiled before, it cooks very quickly!  You want to hang in the kitchen and keep an eye on it.

Cook your rice while the salmon is in the oven, and go ahead and through the asparagus in the oven too.  Coat the asparagus in olive oil and season with salt.  Then put it on a baking sheet.  Stir/flip it at least once while the salmon cooks.

Keta Salmon Fillets, $8.99 lb
Rice-A-Roni or Pasta Roni, 1.9-7.2 oz, $1
Asparagus, $2.99 lb

Spaghetti and Salad

This is the perfect week to add Spaghetti to the menu and not feel like you did it because you didn’t want to cook!  After a store coupon you’ll get pasta for 49¢ a box, and there is a BOGO pasta sauce too.

While ground beef is technically on sale, it’s pricey in my book.  So grab a bag of meatballs that is much cheaper per pound and add those in (make sure to get the coupons for those too)!  Only use half the bag though, we will use the other half for dinner later this week.

Ronzoni Pasta, 10-16 oz, B1G1 at $1.99 (99¢)
Mid’s Pasta Sauce, 32 oz, B1G1 at $5.15 ($2.57)
Mama Lucia Meatballs, 14-20 oz, B1G1 at $5.99 ($2.99)
Fresh Express Salad Blends or Kits, 5-13 oz, B1G1 at $4.39 ($2.19)

*Remember you don’t need to buy 2 on bogo deals unless you live in Florida.*

Meatball Subs & Chips

I love meals that use up leftovers but don’t feel like you are eating leftovers!  Use up your left over meatballs and spaghetti sauce to make amazing meatball subs.  Add a slice (or two) of provolone cheese and Italian seasoning spice to the top of each before you eat.

Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse Buns, 16-24 oz, at $4.15 ($2.07)
Publix Cheese Slices, 6-8 oz, B2G1 at $3.19
Doritos Tortilla Chips or Ruffles Potato Chips, 6.5-11.25 oz, $2.50

Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Steamed Vegetables

We’ve got a great price on steaks this week and bogo mashed potatoes… this is a no brainer! Make a simple gravy packet (not on sale but only 75¢) to bring them all together.

Tip: To stretch your steak go ahead and cut it into slices after you grill it.  Folks always take a bigger hunk of steak than they need, but already slicing it keeps the portion sizes smaller.  You could also add in any left over sausage from earlier this week, and grill that too!

Boneless Top Sirloin Steaks, $4.99 lb
Simply Potatoes, 20 oz, B1G1 at $2.85 ($1.42)
Eat Smart Vegetables, 10-12 oz, B1G1 at $3.19 ($1.59)

Slow Cooker BBQ Pork Ribs, Fresh Express Chopped Salad, Roasted Potatoes

You’ll LOVE these ribs!  You’ll also love that they take 5 minutes to throw into the crockpot at the beginning of the day.  If you already have BBQ sauce at home, then use that rather than the rib rack (while we do have a coupon it’s just not quite as cheap at some bogo deals we see).

Rib Rack All Natural BBQ Sauce, 19 oz, $4.15
Fresh Express Salad Blends or Kits, 5-13 oz, B1G1 at $4.39 ($2.19)
Simply Potatoes Diced Potatoes and Onions, 20 oz, B1G1 at $2.85 ($1.42)

Make Your Own Pizza Night

While this is our meal plan every week for Friday night, this week everything you need is on sale!  Grab the pizza dough from the deli and you’ll have dinner on the table in less than 20 minutes.  It doesn’t need to rise, just put your toppings on and bake.

Publix Bakery Italian Pizza Dough, 15-16 oz, $1.99
Publix Chunk Mozzarella Cheese, 8 oz, $2.50
Carando Pepperoni, 4-6 oz, B1G1 at $3.89 ($1.94)

Don’t forget to print your shopping list for all the items needed for these recipes.
