I was wondering if anyone in Georgia knew about the $1000 max on computers?  If the computer is over $1000 will they take off the tax on $1000 and tax us on the rest? my daughter dropped her macbook and I’m not sure how much it is going to cost to fix vs a new one.

I found this on another website

” A single personal computer or personal computer-related accessory purchase with a sales price of $1,000.00 or less.”

It doesn’t seem like the  Macbooks will be eligible for the tax-free weekend, BUT if she has a student ID, she may be able to get a student discount. You would have to talk to them about that. It might just be for college students on certain items, but I remember the discount being around 100 to 200 which is better than tax free for a $1,000 purchase. PCs aren’t as bad anymore either if you are looking to save money. Just don’t get swindled by employees who don’t really know what you are talking about.

The whole purchase will be taxed if it exceeds $1000 before tax.

The total item cost will be taxed if it is over $1000. Even if its only $1001 then you will be taxes $60-$70 depending on your county.
