Restoration Hardware wood and concrete table look alikeTables are always a big purchase.  I love the rustic look of this Restoration Hardware table.  But… it’s almost $3,000 and this Southern Saver can’t quite wrap her mind around that.

Restoration Hardware Salvaged Wood & Concrete Table Look Alike

Restoration Hardware Salvaged Wood & X-Based Table: 72″ for $2695 ($125 Shipping)

This table is beautiful with light wood and a table top made of concrete.  I have no doubt that it is well-made and very heavy.  I love the idea of the concrete top, but you get a similar rustic effect with the metal wrapped top from World Market at a much lower price.

World Market Metal Wrapped Braxton Table: 78″ for $599.99 ($100 Shipping)

I realize that some people may prefer the concrete top over the metal wrapped, but I honestly prefer the metal.  I can just imagine how much easier it would be to clean.  I would constantly be worried about red Kool-Aid staining the concrete.  It’s definitely the same look, which is a big plus!

We went to a beach timeshare with my parents a few weeks ago and the unit had a granite table top. I noticed that my food was cold within just a few minutes at every meal because of the cold tabletop. That would be my main reason for not wanting concrete besides the fact that Mom and I tried to move the table and could not budge the thing. I think it would also be possible to buy a yard sale table and cover the top with metal and paint the base for an instant transformation.

There was a 25% off furniture coupon in the world market advertisement today. Not sure if you already figured that into the price, but that would also help with savings. :-)

I have boys. While spilling things on concrete would be one concern, the larger concern for me would be things getting broken when they are dropped on the table.

I think I’ll change careers..if folks are willing to pay almost 3 grand for some old wood and concrete…I could make that for under 20 bucks, easy!

My husband made a concrete top for our patio table. He used the base which was still in good shape. It turned out great and saved us $$!
