One of the biggest sources of budget strife in our house can be eating out…  I have a feeling we aren’t alone in this.  I can have the best of intentions with menus planned and a stocked pantry, but then 5 o’clock hits and life is too busy (or feels that way) to take the time to cook.  So all of a sudden we are grabbing something to eat on the way to an activity or event.

Ronzoni challenged me recently to change that habit and try adding one meal a week that is a 3 minute meal with their quick cook pasta.  Available in Elbows, Penne Rigate and Rotini, there is a Quick Cook pasta option suitable for most any pasta recipe!  One thing to note, it is not recommended for baking dishes (for that try out the Ronzoni pre-cooked pasta).

To help you see just how easy these are to use for a quick healthy dinner, I made a short video for ya!

I have been in this situation before.  One meal that my family ate and cooked in a hurry was: Chicken Vegetable Alfreado with Rotini, a side salad of mixed greens and italian dressing, and garlic toast.  The chicken was left over chicken that was deboned and deskinned, the vegetables were from the night before, and the rotini was left over from two nights prior.  Alfrado sauce was from Ragu, and was heated up and mixed with the pulled apart chicken in a sauce pan.  Everything was layered: noodles, vegetables, and sauce with chicken.  The garlic toast was made from regular bread, toasted, buttered, and garlic salt.

My go to is the Ronzoni quick cook 3 minute rontini with pasta sauce heated up in a sauce pan while the pasta cooks.  A couple of us top ours with some 2% grated mozzarella cheese.  I usually pull out this meal on Tuesdays when my three older kids have football, soccer, and gymnastics.  I try to have leftover grilled chicken breasts in the fridge on tuesdays that we can add to it to make it a more rounded meal with protein and not fast food which leaves them all drained before their various activities even begin.  It’s a quick meal and I can nurse the little one while the others eat.  It’s also great as leftovers the next day for lunch.

I love to cook for really cheap or free as well! One of our favorite quick meals is what pesto pasta with chicken.

      You will need:
3 minute Ronzoni noodles (either penne or rotini)
Pesto (Classico makes a great pesto for like $2 at Walmart)
Precooked chicken (Tyson strips go on sale all the time and are perfect)

Cook the noodles, and when you strain them you can heat up the chicken in the pot you used for the noodles. The pot is already warm so it saves a little time and dishes! Use half the little jar of pesto which is about 4 oz.’s just add it right in with the chicken when the chicken is hot just add the hot noddles. Stir well to make sure you coat all the noodles with the pesto. If you use a seperate pan for the chicken it will take 3 minutes exactly after you strain the noodles.

You can use raw chicken if you like or shrimp it may take a few minutes longer for the raw meat to cook.

Great simple, and cheap meal. You can also add garlic bread (which is always on sale too!), and some steamed veggies (always free!) if you wish. But it is a very flavorful and filling meal.

      Enjoy,
      Felicia :)

I have used this pasta for that exact reason.  We have been on a policy of never, never eating dinner out for the last year.  My schedule is very hectic and can change at the drop of the hat each and every day.  The other day I had a late meeting, my husband was hungry and I was tired.  Didnt feel like something microwaved or soup!!!  I gave my husband the instructions over my mobile phone on how to make chicken parmesean with noodles within 10 minutes. He did the noodles,  heated a chicken patty (wont mention the brand) already breaded, added sauce and mozerella and parmasean cheese and had the noodles as a side dish with the sauce.   It was great!   My husband said it was so easy.and it was ready when I arrived home.   Everyone needs to try these…….

I would make cook up the noodles and meanwhile brown hamburger meat and put a jar of pasta sauce and some cinnamon in the meat.  Then whip up a package of cream sauce.  When the noodles are done, mix them with the sauce and top it all with the cream sauce.   YUM!

    599. Gmcouponer says:

I have  one recipe that works out to about 3 minutes.
      super fast chicken alfredo.
On your way home pick up a rotissary chicken. Place pasta on to boil pull out one jar of the classico alfredo pasta sauce, one can of cream of mushroom soup, one box of the quick cook pasta. While the pasta boiling shred the chicken into a bowl, when the pasta is finished and hot drain it . Place it back into the pot but first pour in the soup and the white afredo sauce.
      Creamy shrimp and pasta
Next add the pasta and chicken. Stir well and place the lid onto the pot. While you are setting the table and making the drinks the sauces are melting onto the pasta and chicken. This recipe makes dinner for 4 to 5 people….
If you want to change it up you can choose shrimp instead of chicken and choose the sundried tomatoe alfredo sauce. Just follow the same cooking instructions and if you choose the already cooked shrimp your ready in minutes.adding minced garlic to the  sauces is a great way to set the flavors off too. just add it in while it is setting and the sauces are melting together.
      creamy cheese burger pasta
A great way to have cheese burger mac is to cook the pasta and on a low medium heat fry the burger meat. But not till its hard, keep it tender and juicy so cook it on medium to medium heat. about 1 lb will do. one box of pasta, one can of cream mushroom, and one jar of cheeze whiz. follow the same directions…..

    600. Pamela B says:

      Ronzoni Quick Cook Penne
      1 cup halved grape tomatoes
      1 tbsp freshly minced garlic
      1/2 cup julianned basil
      1 cup pearled mozzarella (bocconccini)
      salt and pepper to taste
      3 tbsp olive oil

Bring a large pot of water to a boil, add salt, then pasta.  Meanwhile warm olive oil in a skillet at low heat and add garlic. When garlic smells fragrant and has flavored oil (3 min) remove from heat and add the tomatoes, pasta, basil, and salt and pepper.  Wonderful, light, and healthy!

So good!

    607. Wendy Massey says:

Nothing like a simple “quickie” ziti….penne pasta, with or without browned hamburger, shredded cheddar and/or mozarella, tomato and basil pasta sauce.  Plate with parmesan and voila…simple, quick….yummy

    608. Melly says:

I would love to try the penne rigate.  My kids love it too.  My quickest meal is a variation on pancit – thin rice noodles soaked in hot water for about 3 minutes.  Meanwhile warm up corned beef.  Add soy sauce to noodles, beef to noodles, toss in skillet.  Done.  Longer would be to chop and saute an onion with the meat.  Seriously, the pickiest of people have loved it.

    609. Jamesm4321 says:

I actually made one this week, before seeing this…with the Quick Cook macaroni (which I like because it’s longer, and looks more homemade, and less processed).

I made mac n cheese.  Used some cheese sauce, but spiced it up a little with some great smoked paprika, garlic powder, diced onions, fresh cracked pepper, and some cubed ham.  Made a crust for the top of seasoned breadcrumbs, bacon and parmesian cheese.  Baked it under broiler for a few minutes to crust it up a little.   :-)

I also have recently made a quick marinara sauce, and some ground Pork meatballs (mini so they cook fast)., and tossed it with the corkscrewy Quick Cook pasta.  :-)

I actually used this product a couple of weeks ago. During the summer, I make lots of pesto (grow my own basil) and freeze ice cubed sized portions. Cook pasta (add cooked chicken if you have time).  Once pasta is drained and still hot, throw in 1 (if a small serving) to 4 pesto cubes and stir until evenly distributed. Serve with grated parmessan or as is.  Delicious and easy!
