One of the biggest sources of budget strife in our house can be eating out…  I have a feeling we aren’t alone in this.  I can have the best of intentions with menus planned and a stocked pantry, but then 5 o’clock hits and life is too busy (or feels that way) to take the time to cook.  So all of a sudden we are grabbing something to eat on the way to an activity or event.

Ronzoni challenged me recently to change that habit and try adding one meal a week that is a 3 minute meal with their quick cook pasta.  Available in Elbows, Penne Rigate and Rotini, there is a Quick Cook pasta option suitable for most any pasta recipe!  One thing to note, it is not recommended for baking dishes (for that try out the Ronzoni pre-cooked pasta).

To help you see just how easy these are to use for a quick healthy dinner, I made a short video for ya!

To be honest, besides frying eggs or cooking a can of soup, I have no idea how to cook a hot meal in three minutes. I think it takes me at least 5-10 minutes to cook anything. So I would love to be able to make any meal in three minutes or less. In fact, I would be shocked if I could make a pasta dish from scratch in three minutes or less.

    • Danielle429

Rotini with tomatoes and spinach cooked in a little olive oil.
You use 2tbs olive oil and put in cherry tomatoes and spinach cook untl spinach is wilted. Add Rotini and a little of the pasta water to make a sauce. It is wonderful and easy!
We used to add parm on top but we have a little one with a dairy allergy now.

My husband likes to make crab salad with the imitation crab meat.  That is about the only way I can eat imitation crab meat.  All I would need to cook would be Ronzoni’s Quick Cook Pasta and the crab meat, ranch dressing and chopped onion would be dumped onto the cooked pasta and mixed together. Quick and simple.

    • jennjenn5282

    • Jnvsibley

I would make a stroganoff using frozen meatballs, Philadelphia Cooking cream and Ronzoni Quick Cook Rotini :)

    • Jjc8man

I have been in this situation before.  One meal that my family ate and cooked in a hurry was: Chicken Vegetable Alfreado with Rotini, a side salad of mixed greens and italian dressing, and garlic toast.  The chicken was left over chicken that was deboned and deskinned, the vegetables were from the night before, and the rotini was left over from two nights prior.  Alfrado sauce was from Ragu, and was heated up and mixed with the pulled apart chicken in a sauce pan.  Everything was layered: noodles, vegetables, and sauce with chicken.  The garlic toast was made from regular bread, toasted, buttered, and garlic salt.

    • Connieb03

I have two always hungry, growing boys.  We are out the door 5 days a week to school then about 4 nights a week and every Saturday for ball games.  Pasta, especially a quick cook variety, is my go to meal. I admit, I have no imagination reference a recipe, but my boys like plain regular jar pasta sauce and would eat pasta everyday if they could.  Thanks!

    • Shannon

    • cbear704

I would use the Quick Cook pasta, “cut up ahead” veggies like you mentioned such as celery, grapes, grated carrots, tomatoes olives. Add a little pickle relish, mayo, honey mustard and spicey mustard and voila! A meal my whole family of 6 can enjoy!

I use the quick cook pasta quite often for my husband’s lunch: while pasta is cooking I mix Italian dressing, frozen diced onions and peppers, and mini turkey pepperoni together for a quick pasta salad. The heat from the pasta thaws the onions and peppers and he’s good to go. It’s great when I’m makInv breakfast, prepping dinner, and also trying to get lunch ready early in the morning!

I use Ronzoni QuickPasta to make pasta w/pesto. In a food processor mill 4 good size garlic cloves, 1 cup of walnuts and two cups of clean and dry fresh basil leaves. As that mills, drip one cup of olive oil until all mixed. Add one cup grated parmesan and 1/4 cup romano. Season with salt and pepper. After 3 minutes drain pasta, drop pasta in huge bowl and mix in pesto. Add more romano on top. Excellent for hungry vegetarians, kids and tired parents. Pesto can be made the day before or sometime earlier and frozen.

    • Rosiedyer3

My grandaughter is vegetarian. When she comes over I can make her a great meal in 3 minutes. While the Ronzoni is cooking I put some morningstar crumbles in the microwave, open a jar of sauce.  She is making the salad at the same time and heating up some garlic rolls.  Within 5-7 minutes we are at the table eating…..

    • Erin I.

      Penne with meat sauce–yum! :)

    • Karen

      Soft taco shells (microwave)
1 Can Hormel Chili w/beans (microwave)
      Shredded cheese
      Hot sauce

1 bag ready to eat Mexican Rice (microwave)

Once the beans and shells are hot the burritos can be assembled while the rice is heating.

This is a meal that while utilizing processed foods can be cooked and on the table in minutes.  Most of the items can be purchased free or cheap.  I do not recommend processed foods be eaten daily – but when you are in a hurry this will provide a hot meal fast.  I look at it this way; I can feed my family of 5 processed food from a fast food restaurant that takes me 10 minutes to get and 20.00 out of pocket, or I can feed them at home in 3 minutes for less than 5.00.

    • Angela

Whether these would actually be 3 minutes or not I don’t know but they are fairly quick and easy.

    • Vet_chic822

Since I’m a vet student, when I do fix dinners it has to be something quick. So if I only had 3 minutes I would make a pizza rotini. All you need to do is add pepperoni, precooked sausage crumbles (that you can warm up in the microwave), spaghetti sauce, and cheese to the quick cooked pasta and you have a tasty meal for dinner and lunch for the next day.

    • jarm

I cook the above three minute past and heat up some sauce that we freeze.  It is fast, easy and tasty!

    • cstetson

I pull a bag of homemade roasted red pepper cream sauce out of the freezer (takes less than 30″ a few times a year to quadruple the recipe and freeze in serving sizes). Thaw sauce in microwave while pasta cooks. Toss with pasta. Add left over chicken, Italian/chicken sausage, or frozen spinach/broccoli if desired. Done. Yum!!
Still fast, semi-homemade, less expensive and healthier than eating out.

I made this for last minute, surprise dinner guest this past weekend. They thought it could be served in a B&B. Plus, my kids love the “red macaroni”.

      • Zimmge

Would you share your roasted red pepper cream sauce recipe?  It sounds tempting… Thanks!

    • Mary J.

I would make a cheese and veggie frittata.

    • Guest

I would not recommend this brand. I recently discovered maggots in my boxes of spaguetti as they were being cooked. The product was not supposed to expire until 2013. :( Ronzoni Rep. said it is probably my pantry, but I emptied out my entire pantry and found nothing.

Had to toss several boxes. :(

Here is one of the recipes I cook in a time crunch. Quick Cook Ronzoni Pasta & store bought, fully cooked chicken makes this one a snap!                                               Pasta With Lemon & Chicken                                                                                                                                                 1 lb. Ronzoni Quick Cook Penne
1 – 2 lb. block of Roasted Chicken lunchmeat from your grocers deli, chopped into bite size pieces Salt and black pepper to taste2 to 4 cloves garlic, minced1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes3 Tbs. olive oilA handful of Italian flat leaf parsley, choppedJuice of 2 lemons ( I also use the rind of one lemon, grated)1/2 cup grated parmesan, (more or less to taste)

Cook the pasta according to package directions. Meanwhile, saute the garlic and red pepper flakes with the olive oil just until fragrant. Do not burn! Turn off heat and add the cooked and drained pasta. Mix well. Transfer to a large bowl and add the chicken, salt, pepper, parsley, and lemon juice. Mix well. Served topped with parmesan cheese.

My go to is the Ronzoni quick cook 3 minute rontini with pasta sauce heated up in a sauce pan while the pasta cooks.  A couple of us top ours with some 2% grated mozzarella cheese.  I usually pull out this meal on Tuesdays when my three older kids have football, soccer, and gymnastics.  I try to have leftover grilled chicken breasts in the fridge on tuesdays that we can add to it to make it a more rounded meal with protein and not fast food which leaves them all drained before their various activities even begin.  It’s a quick meal and I can nurse the little one while the others eat.  It’s also great as leftovers the next day for lunch.

I love to cook for really cheap or free as well! One of our favorite quick meals is what pesto pasta with chicken.

      You will need:
3 minute Ronzoni noodles (either penne or rotini)
Pesto (Classico makes a great pesto for like $2 at Walmart)
Precooked chicken (Tyson strips go on sale all the time and are perfect)

Cook the noodles, and when you strain them you can heat up the chicken in the pot you used for the noodles. The pot is already warm so it saves a little time and dishes! Use half the little jar of pesto which is about 4 oz.’s just add it right in with the chicken when the chicken is hot just add the hot noddles. Stir well to make sure you coat all the noodles with the pesto. If you use a seperate pan for the chicken it will take 3 minutes exactly after you strain the noodles.

You can use raw chicken if you like or shrimp it may take a few minutes longer for the raw meat to cook.

Great simple, and cheap meal. You can also add garlic bread (which is always on sale too!), and some steamed veggies (always free!) if you wish. But it is a very flavorful and filling meal.

      Felicia :)

      • Felicia

Or I will make noddle soup with it. I will cook pasta on one stove top. Meanwhile, pan fried egg and spam or hot dog. Also, cook veggi (broccolini or asparagus preferred) in chicken stock. Drained pasta and mixed all ingredient together.

    • Couponskw

I have used this pasta for that exact reason.  We have been on a policy of never, never eating dinner out for the last year.  My schedule is very hectic and can change at the drop of the hat each and every day.  The other day I had a late meeting, my husband was hungry and I was tired.  Didnt feel like something microwaved or soup!!!  I gave my husband the instructions over my mobile phone on how to make chicken parmesean with noodles within 10 minutes. He did the noodles,  heated a chicken patty (wont mention the brand) already breaded, added sauce and mozerella and parmasean cheese and had the noodles as a side dish with the sauce.   It was great!   My husband said it was so easy.and it was ready when I arrived home.   Everyone needs to try these…….

    • Mrsmurray05

I would make cook up the noodles and meanwhile brown hamburger meat and put a jar of pasta sauce and some cinnamon in the meat.  Then whip up a package of cream sauce.  When the noodles are done, mix them with the sauce and top it all with the cream sauce.   YUM!

    • Ngking15

    • Tricia

No Bake Mac and Cheese would work for me!

    • Gmcouponer

I have  one recipe that works out to about 3 minutes.
      super fast chicken alfredo.
On your way home pick up a rotissary chicken. Place pasta on to boil pull out one jar of the classico alfredo pasta sauce, one can of cream of mushroom soup, one box of the quick cook pasta. While the pasta boiling shred the chicken into a bowl, when the pasta is finished and hot drain it . Place it back into the pot but first pour in the soup and the white afredo sauce.
      Creamy shrimp and pasta
Next add the pasta and chicken. Stir well and place the lid onto the pot. While you are setting the table and making the drinks the sauces are melting onto the pasta and chicken. This recipe makes dinner for 4 to 5 people….
If you want to change it up you can choose shrimp instead of chicken and choose the sundried tomatoe alfredo sauce. Just follow the same cooking instructions and if you choose the already cooked shrimp your ready in minutes.adding minced garlic to the  sauces is a great way to set the flavors off too. just add it in while it is setting and the sauces are melting together.
      creamy cheese burger pasta
A great way to have cheese burger mac is to cook the pasta and on a low medium heat fry the burger meat. But not till its hard, keep it tender and juicy so cook it on medium to medium heat. about 1 lb will do. one box of pasta, one can of cream mushroom, and one jar of cheeze whiz. follow the same directions…..

    • Pamela B

      Ronzoni Quick Cook Penne
      1 cup halved grape tomatoes
      1 tbsp freshly minced garlic
      1/2 cup julianned basil
      1 cup pearled mozzarella (bocconccini)
      salt and pepper to taste
      3 tbsp olive oil

Bring a large pot of water to a boil, add salt, then pasta.  Meanwhile warm olive oil in a skillet at low heat and add garlic. When garlic smells fragrant and has flavored oil (3 min) remove from heat and add the tomatoes, pasta, basil, and salt and pepper.  Wonderful, light, and healthy!

This is a recipe I use all the time already but using Quick cook pasta would REALLY cut down the cook time.

In a skillet heat olive oil and minced garlic.  Dump in one can diced tomatoes not drained.  Add Italian seasonings to taste and heat through.  Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and cover till cheese melts.  Pour over pasta adn enjoy.  Spaghetti sauce for the non red sauce lovers.

I often get in from school and work late and am starving when I get in, so having to wait around for dinner to be done cooking leaves me growing cranky hungry. I would use the Quick Cook Pasta to help speed up the cooking process of one of newest favorite dishes which is pasta with sauteed onions, mushrooms, spinach and garlic in a balsamic vinegar sauce. So good!

    • Wendy Massey

Nothing like a simple “quickie” ziti….penne pasta, with or without browned hamburger, shredded cheddar and/or mozarella, tomato and basil pasta sauce.  Plate with parmesan and voila…simple, quick….yummy

    • Melly

I would love to try the penne rigate.  My kids love it too.  My quickest meal is a variation on pancit – thin rice noodles soaked in hot water for about 3 minutes.  Meanwhile warm up corned beef.  Add soy sauce to noodles, beef to noodles, toss in skillet.  Done.  Longer would be to chop and saute an onion with the meat.  Seriously, the pickiest of people have loved it.

    • Jamesm4321

I actually made one this week, before seeing this…with the Quick Cook macaroni (which I like because it’s longer, and looks more homemade, and less processed).

I made mac n cheese.  Used some cheese sauce, but spiced it up a little with some great smoked paprika, garlic powder, diced onions, fresh cracked pepper, and some cubed ham.  Made a crust for the top of seasoned breadcrumbs, bacon and parmesian cheese.  Baked it under broiler for a few minutes to crust it up a little.   :-)

I also have recently made a quick marinara sauce, and some ground Pork meatballs (mini so they cook fast)., and tossed it with the corkscrewy Quick Cook pasta.  :-)

    • Lproemsey

Love penne with vodka sauce and shrimp.

Gather:  elbow Rozoni pasta, pesto, olive oil, diced salami, (you can add diced ham or chicken if you like)  green or black olives, green onions chopped, thawed frozen green peas, and feta cheese.  Cook Rozoni pasta as directed – strain, immediately put back in pot and all other ingredients- stir and serve with baguettes!   I think a bottle of Chianti would complement nicely.

In a skillet, melt a little butter, sprinkle with about a tablespoon of AP flour to make a roux.  Add about 2 cups of milk and about a cup of water, salt and pepper, and the box of Ronzoni 3 min pasta.  Cook, 3 MINUTES!.  near the end, add a can of precooked chicken or tuna. You can even add some fresh peas.  This is delicious and creamy.  Real comfort food and filling too. If the sauce is too thick, add more milk.  It will thicken a little as it cools.

I actually used this product a couple of weeks ago. During the summer, I make lots of pesto (grow my own basil) and freeze ice cubed sized portions. Cook pasta (add cooked chicken if you have time).  Once pasta is drained and still hot, throw in 1 (if a small serving) to 4 pesto cubes and stir until evenly distributed. Serve with grated parmessan or as is.  Delicious and easy!
