diaper deals

One of the most asked questions at workshops and in email is “How do you save on diapers?”  Oh, how I wish I knew the answer to that when I had twins… two more kids later though I am an expert at that one.  The #1 way to save on diapers is at the drugstores.  If you aren’t playing the drugstore game I urge you to get started.  You only need to shop one store (and I would highly recommend CVS over the other two).  Watch a few CVS videos I’ve done and see if that helps, then wait for the next big deal.

You don’t have to wait too long, the next big deal starts Sunday at CVS.

Buy $30 of participating baby care items and get a $10 ExtraCare Buck.  That’s $10 to use on your next purchase of anything in the store.  If you don’t need anything else this week, just hold onto the $10 and use it on the next diaper deal (they don’t expire for 30 days).

There are two diapers on sale this week, Pampers and Luvs.  Depending on what brand you want, here are two deal ideas:

Pampers Deal

(3) Pampers Jumbo packs, $8.99
(1) Pampers Wipes, 72 ct., $2.99
-.50/1 Pampers Wipes 56 ct + printable
(3) -$1.50 off Pampers Baby Dry Diapers printable
Total Due: $24.96

Get Back: $10 ECB, makes it $3.74 each.

Luvs Deal

(4) Luvs Diapers, jumbo pk., $7.99
-$1 off Luvs Diapers printable
Total Due: $27.96

Get Back: $10 ECB, makes it $4.49 ea.

For everyone that thought house brands or buying the massive boxes were a deal, I’m sorry to shatter your world… but they aren’t  You can’t buy house brand diapers that cheap.  For the big boxes, they are really 3 jumbo packs put together in a box.  So you are getting the huge box of pampers for $11.22 then you have a deal, but you probably aren’t.

This is really the tip of the iceberg on saving for diapers.  To learn even more check out a post I wrote on how to stock up on diapers and what price to buy them at.  Learning stock up prices is key to getting the best deals.

Just to clarify, you get the ECB even if your out of pocket is less than the $30, correct? I ask because my OOP on a different deal was $29.10 after coupons despite meeting the $30 and corporate emailed me back (because I complained about not getting my ECBs) and said because my OOP was not $30 that’s why I didn’t get them. It was a convoluted situation…thanks!

As long as your before coupons was over $30 and then it should have printed. I know that now that they have switched to the $5 ECB with 20 and $10 ECB with 30 deals that they have been running the computer is not kicking $10 ECB when you meet the 98% like it used to. Some cashiers/stores will still honor it though.

The suggested Pampers deal above is not calculated right. The total only comes to $29.96 BEFORE coupons so you will not be eligible for the ECB. You have to spend the $30 to get the $10.

only if your store does not follow the 98% rule. typically it will automatically print within 98% of the total– unless it is a spend $20 get $5 ECB, Spend $30 get $10 ECB kind of deal. Then you have to hit the total or you get the smaller amount.

I typically get the rewards if I’m within a few pennies of $30 (or whatever the required spending amount is). :)

For the Pampers deal, I like to calculate it proportionally to the prices of the items, so it’s a little less than $4.50/jumbo and $1.50 for the wipes after ECBs.

That’s makes more sense to me, too. Makes the diapers seem not as good a deal but I would never pay $3.74 for wipes.

JENNY: perhaps something is changing at CVS regarding being within 97% of the ECB deal. I bought 3 pampers and 1 desitin this morning (all of which go towards the $10 ECB WYB $30 deal) to equal $29.97. But nothing printed. I asked the manager & she said it is because I used coupons! The receipt showed I purchased only $11.99 towards the reward, which even if the coupons counted towards this reason, made NO sense. $8.99-$1.50=$7.49 x 3 = $22.47. So something is awry. Regardless at this CVS I have never had an issue with coming up $0.03 short & it NOT printing the ECB. The manager manually printed one for me, but I wonder what might be going on. Thoughts?

My Friend and I went to CVS together and this happened to both of us. On hers it only picked up the wipes (said she had spent $2.99) that she bought with 3 packs of pampers. On mine it picked up wipes and one pkg pampers($11.98). In the ad it said ALL pampers, even though only the cruisers were pictured. So the cashier issued the $10 to both of us.

This happened to me as well and the manager manually printed one for me. Did we have to be at exactly $30 for the ECB to print? I’m curious as I’m pretty new to this and want to be sure I’m doing it correctly for future ECB purchases. Thanks!

Holding out for a deal on Huggies-printed coupons for Dollar General, but all they had was snug & dry and coupons were for all the specialty diapers. My store didn’t even carry Pull-Ups. They also would not take the $5/$25 with the $5/$20 promotion and wouldn’t take the Bic coupons either cuz it made them free. I just told the cashier never mind and walked out-too much hassle and not nice about it either!
