Having a store credit card can truly pay off if you use them wisely and have cards that give the most rewards and benefits!  If you pay them off every month, and never carry a balance there is no cost to have most store credit cards as they don’t charge annual fees.  They also have considerable perks plus help to build your credit score.

Note: Having too many cards and keeping any balance on them negates any savings or deals these cards would give you.  Be responsible, pick 2-3 total and stick with those brands.  Set each card to auto pay the full balance so you never forget and never pay fees.

Top Store Credit Cards

Target RedCard
Grab the Debit Card version of the Target RedCard and never pay a single fee.  The card is linked straight to your checking account and withdraws funds as you shop.  This card is a must have in my opinion if you shop at Target!

Perks:
5% off every purchase in-store and online
Free Shipping on any online order of any value
10% off one purchase on your sign up anniversary
Additional 30 day return and exchanges window
Early Access to Black Friday Sales
there are no perk differences between the credit and debit card versions

Note: The debit card version does not get reported or trigger a credit event.  This will not build your credit score but also will not hurt you to have.

Kohl’s Card
One store that knows how to treat card holders is Kohl’s.  Grab the Kohl’s Credit Card and you’ll get sweet extra discounts on every purchase.  Kohl’s allows 4 coupon codes per order, having access to cardholder only coupons can really help you stack the savings!  This is a Kohl’s store card only and will not work in other retail stores.

Perks:
35% off your first purchase
30% off entire order coupons multiple times a month
plus free shipping codes everything month

Shell Gas Card
Saving on gas can be really easy with a Shell Gas Card.  This is a Shell only card with no annual fee and it is actually one of the easiest cards to get approval for.  You’ll earn 10-30¢ off per gallon of gas and up to 10% back on non-fuel purchases at Shell.  Pair this with Shell Fuel Rewards and save even more off every fill-up.

Perks:
30¢ off per gallon on first 5 fill-ups
10¢ off per gallon on every fill-up after the first 5
10% shell rebate on first $1200 non-fuel purchase per year

Note: The mastercard version will work in other stores but is harder to get if you have fair credit.  It does have perks for discounts on purchases made other places.

Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Card
Pair your Amazon Prime Membership with their Prime Visa card to get extra savings on every purchase.  This is a no annual fee credit card that you can use anywhere.  It will give you up to 5% back on every purchase!  You can use your rewards right after you earn them and will always see any points balance at checkout on Amazon.com.

Perks:
5% back on purchases from Amazon and Whole Foods
2% back at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores
1% back on other all purchases
bonus cash back on participating items during the holidays
travel assistance and insurance
extended warranty protection

Note: You must have a Prime Membership to qualify for the card.  Get a free 30-day trial here.

Costco Visa Card
While this is a regular Visa card you can use everywhere, the Costco Visa card you might want alongside a Costco Membership.  There is no annual fee and you’ll earn up to 4% back in rewards.  Your rewards come annually every February and can be used in Costco for cash or merchandise.

Perks:
4% back on gas purchases (max of $7000 per year)
3% back on restaurants and travel purchases
2% back on any Costco or Costco.com purchase
1% back on all other purchases

Note: If you need a Costco membership get the best deal we’ve ever seen and grab a year membership for $20.

Kroger Mastercard
Kroger is one of the few grocery stores with their own credit card.  Getting the Kroger Rewards Mastercard can mean a big savings on gas and groceries every year.  They have a great calculator on their site to show just how much savings you could earn.  There is no annual fee.

Perks:
extra 25¢ off per gallon of gas during 1st year
earn free groceries with every purchase
travel assistance and insurance

Other Cards to Consider

Typically the best credit card for you is one that gives rewards to places you shop or go a lot.  Depending on what’s going on in your life these other no-fee cards may be great to consider.

Apple Card – 2% back on all purchases when using Apple Pay

Lowes Advantage – 5% off all Lowes Purchases

Sam’s Club Mastercard – 5% back on gas purchases anywhere, 1% back on Sams purchases

GAP or Old Navy – points on every purchase, 10% off every purchase in-store, regular cardholder coupon codes
