Weekly Weigh In

I didn’t post last week as I had no scale and was pretty sure the number wasn’t going to be so pretty…  I like to eat, that’s probably not a surprise and I really enjoy food with my family.  So, vacations with family and food are a tricky place to stay on a diet.  It also doesn’t help that my husbands favorite hobby on vacation is to make a different flavor of homemade ice cream everyday.  That’s a lot of ice cream, and being the sweet encouraging wife that I try to be, I “need” to try every flavor.  You see where this is going…

We got home from the beach and when I stepped on the scale I wasn’t really shocked to see that I had gained 3.5 lbs.  Seeing cause and effect with food is a good thing really.  I know I shouldn’t eat it and within a few days I see the proof as to why.  We’ve been home a week now and I haven’t gained or lost this week.  I am blaming this on vacations ruining good habits.  I didn’t exercise much at all while we were gone and I continued that bad habit for the last week.  I also didn’t track much of what I ate, and I continued that bad habit too.

excuses don't burn calories

Two weeks down, it’s time to get back to work.  No excuses.  Today I set the alarm, woke up my big girls and went for a run.  While the scale may not show great progress this week, the run was the encouragement boost I needed today.  We ran 3 minute segments and at the end of each I wasn’t winded and could have gone on a bit further.  This is by far better than where we started and it’s probably been a month since we last ran!

My other encouragement this week was dropping another size.  So the scale isn’t my friend, and that’s okay.  I’m now a size 12 down from size 18 I started at 13 weeks.  One last huge moment for me, I wore shorts this weekend.  My kids were slightly shocked.  It’s probably been 3-4 years since the last time I wore shorts.  It’s a big self esteem thing for me really, we all have our struggles and this is mine.  While you aren’t going to catch me in them everyday, I wasn’t self conscious at all and was very happy to be cooler as we hung outside most of the weekend.

This weeks numbers:

Starting Weight (13 weeks ago): 202
Two Weeks Ago: 179.1
Current Weight: 182.6
Goal Weight: 165

The big goal this week – no more going backwards!  I have my big girls holding me accountable as we aim to run at least three days this week and I will work out twice in the garage with weights.  So five workout days total, and I’m also tracking everything this week (even the brownie we had with a birthday celebration at lunch).  I also did really well with little goals before the beach so I’m setting a new little goal of losing 12 lbs before the Becoming Conference that I’m co-hosting in 8 weeks.  It’s a reasonable goal and will be big help trying to strive for it.

Have any excuses you need to give up this week?

I’m with you Jenny. I had my 6th baby in March and I am on the path to health body again. Keep going girl!

I used to work with troubled kids, and we always warned them off of the word “should” when they were talking to themselves about making changes in their lives. We would say, “Watch out! Don’t step in that big pile of should!”

When we are trying to make a change, we have to “want to” or “get to” for it to work. And stick.

As you get up for that run, watch out for the pile of “should” and don’t step in it! Hang in there!

I had a drs. appt week before last and I am down 10lbs and 15point on my BP!! Thank you for the giant kick in the butt to get moving. Baby girl graduates in a year and I want to be in pictures with her (in a dress … and LIKE how I look!). I put everything in my fitness pal — 60+ days in a row. I am probably down 2 more lbs since the drs. slow and steady wins the race! 10 more to go!

Always look forward to the updates. Glad to know you’re human too. We had a huge church dinner Sunday. I love them and hate them lol but I knew it was coming so I had saved up some points and didn’t go crazy. I just enjoyed one good plate full. And then sampled a tiny helping of a couple desserts. I have lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks. You are keeping me motivated. Thank you for that. I still have a long way to go but I try not to think of it that way and just take it one day at a time and look at how far I’ve come. The workouts I’m doing I could barely get through the first day now after 3 weeks I have gained a much strength. It really works. Thank you for doing this. I think it’s helping a lot of people. You are doing great. Glad to see you are getting your kids involved too.

Way to go on dropping another size!!!! That’s awesome!!!! Don’t get discouraged about what you did on vacation. We all need a little break/ treat. The important thing is to get back to eating healthy and exercising. You might stumble on the journey but you get back up, dust yourself off, and keep going. Sounds like you’re back on your feet (the hard battle). ????

Wow, what an inspiration you are. Your weight loss so far is awesome. We had company at our house a couple weeks back due to graduation and I gained 5 Lbs. Thank you for being so completely honest with your numbers, goals and pitfalls. It has really helped me get myself back on track and continue going forward.
