You can. It works just like a BOGO sale (for those of us in FL who have true BOGO) paired with two coupons. From the mfg's point of view, you're buying two items. Publix doesn't care since they're being reimbursed for the coupons.

I agree with your initial thought…just because the price is right doesn't mean it's best for us. However, as a farm wife and mother, I'd like to ask that you be mindful when watching shows like the one you mentioned. They are easily one-sided and most often show the animal/crop producers and handlers, as well as the “process” from farm to store in very poor light (to say the least). I am glad that you are choosing to be informed. Just remember that there is another vantage point…from those of us that actually produce (read: care for, stress over and make very little from) the food that you guys buy.

I use my total savings to buy better food choices…who can't use free toothpaste/shampoo/deodorant/ cleaning supplies and many more staples which are often very cheap or free? I can't give enough thanks to Jennie and this website for opening my eyes on the ins an outs of how to cater my coupon usage to my own families needs. Thanks Jennie!

This is a sore subject with me and I won't get on my soap box here. :) Just know I am very choosy about our foods. I'm here to save everything I can on other things to make up for the amount I spend on clean foods.

I am almost positive they aren't reimbursed for any of the doubling, that is cost that Publix bears. Depending on your cashier, some will block doubling for DND, others will just let it go through (costing Publix)

I bought boxes of Nature Valley a few weeks ago and they had coupons for 3 free yogurts when you bought the box. We go through about a box a week between my kids and my hubby.

I think its there so the manufcr doesnt have to come out of pocket on the dbl. Really the doubling (sp?) is something the grocer does out of courtesy and they themselves pay it out not the manufacturer. I think ; )

My Publix supresses the double on those coupons.

Check the numbers in the barcodes. Usually the ones that start with 5s will double even if says do not double. 9s will not double.

I think that policy changes from store to store so you'll just have to ask your customer service what their policy is on that. Many stores used to take kroger coupons for Kroger brand for Publix brand. My store does not…however, like i said it changes from store to store.

Hi Sarah – I save an average of 60 – 75% every time I go to Publix … We are to the point where we are looking to buy a second fridge/freezer for the garage, but it doesn't sound like that's an option for you … We also have a 1 year old and I am due with our second child late June/early July … So we're saving that much including buying things for the babies, such as diapers and baby food … This percentage of savings is usually where we land with CVS and their hygiene and health and beauty sales as well … Occassionally I will only save 50%, but that's usually the lowest I hit … We are also to the point where we are actually able to buy items for the sole purpose of donating … We don't buy meat every single trip, we buy it when it is on its best sale and break it into smaller servings than the tray they come in and re-wrap, date, and freeze them … We personally also only buy certain produce, and those not every trip, so if there are specific produce or meat items that are must-haves in your grocery planning, while you may catch them on sale here and there, (occassionally a B1G1 for some produce and once in a blue moon, some meat at Publix), rarely will there be a coordinating coupon for it (except occassionally on a name brand meat product, which are usually priced higher than store cuts anyway) … I will say that if you are in an area that has a Winn Dixie, they DO do B1G1 on their meat cuts rather frequently, but in my experience I've found that at least here in Central FL, WD tends to hike up their usual meat prices during those B1G1 sales … So yes, you're getting the second tray of meat for free, but you're also paying higher for the first one, so it doesn't always work out to be the least out-of-pocket … Anyway, hope that helps :)

I only started couponing about 2 months ago and I am finally starting to see more savings. Initially I think that I was so excited to save a few bucks that I was buying things because they were a deal, BUT I was not purchasing them at the rock bottom prices like Jenny advises. Now that I have a little stock pile going and I have accumulated more coupons, I am able to save more and be a little more selective.

I have calculated that over the last 2 months I have saved an average of 60% in total (this does not include my CVS savings either). Some weeks it may be 40-50%, others it is 60% +. My best Publix week was last week when I spent $52 and saved $155 for a savings of 75%. I too have no kids yet, but I am still stockpiling some of the stuff that I buy within reason. I also stocked up on the chicken breast a few weeks ago when it was $1.99 a pound (rockbottom Publix price) and I bought some other meat when it was on sale as well.

I don't know how long you have been at this, but I maybe spend a few hours each week matching up the coupons with the items that I want to buy. I also work full time so I have to look at this in the evening or on the weekend but I always manage to check this site to see if there are any hot coupons or deals that I need to print now. The savings is my will power to continue and to not have to shop at Wal-Mart where I have shopped for years due to low prices in my area.

We are probably at about 65% off (haven't computed all of April and May yet). I would say the key is to stock up on non-perishable when you can (broth, canned veggies/tomatoes, granola bars).
A couple of other things I would mention is to not buy any toiletries or personal items from grocey stores (unless they are free razors). Toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant are almost always free at CVS if you can get a stockpile going. If it's free, buy it even if you don't need it. Donate to a food pantry or other program and make lists of what you have donated. You can claim this on tax return, if you donate $50 worth of items 4 times you are saving about $50 on taxes. Not huge but still helpful.
Plan your meals, search for recipes with all of the sale items, many sites have recipes especially tailored to Publix shoppers. We sometimes can make dinners for 2 weeks without having to buy anything but fresh produce, chicken breast, hot dogs, etc on sale mixed with rice or canned veggies.

Just got back from Publix. I spent $56.04 and saved $124.47! I usually save 50-75% on average. Like everyone is saying, it's all about stocking up when you can stack coupons on sale items.

i am single and live in an apartment. i save 40-80% on my grocery bill each month. there are times that i have to pass up sales because my freezer is full. i only buy items that i use unless something ends up being free or sometimes gives me money back, because eventually it is just money off of my entire grocery bill. it does take a bit of time to do the couponing, but i have found that if i really focus i can get it things organized in an hour or two one day a week. it's worth it when you think of what you save. think of saving $40-50 and divide it by 2 or three hours. not bad for your time.

Some cashiers or stores might take expired coupons, but I think it is basically the policy everywhere to not take expired coupons. I think that manufacturers put expiration dates on there for a reason. They want you to use their coupon during a certain promotional period.

yes, they seem to change on a whim. It also depends on the manager. My store said they were taking expired, 2 weeks later the manager said, “well, I meant if they expired this week since we don't turn in our coupons until Saturday.” My Bi-Lo takes expired though.

You can only use one mfg coupon per item. The only thing you can stack is one store q and one mfg q on one item. If you are buying a bogo item, you can use a bogo mfg q AND one $$ off q for the 2nd, since you are technically buying 2 items. hth :)

We get terrible coupons-I find it aggravating too. Spartanburg Herald Journal is no better and costs more so I guess we are stuck. You could buy papers from a larger city at Barnes and Nobles but I am not sure of the cost. If I really want the coupons I order them from a clipping service.

That doesn't sound like it would be worth it. What is that – 140 miles roundtrip? probably the wear and tear on the car would counteract any savings, and it could get him in trouble if work found out about it since they might notice the increase and consider it stealing. Couldn't you just stock up on the BOGO and use them later?

If the peanut butter is BOGO how is it enough $$$ to qualify for the gift card? I know that for rebates and deals like this, it's usually based on the price before coupons but even before coupons, your total is still under $20, only $13.47 for the peanut butter.
The rebate form says you have to buy $50 in groceries, $20 of which has to be in ConAgra foods AND you have to buy either Aquafina or Gatorade, which I'm assuming by the way it reads, isn't included in the $20.

I just got home from a Publix in St Pete and I had well over $5.00 in internet coupons with no issue, and one of the supervisors was my bagger, so I don't know. Which Publix did your friend go to? By the way if it is the one I go to (Shoppes at Royal), the store manager told me that they started taking Walgreens Register Rewards!! yay! but, just let her know that the cashiers don't know about this, and it takes a little work to get them to take it.

According to mu hubby who is employeed by Publix.,its the manufacturer whose job it is to place peelies on the box.Problem they are having is people going in and taking all the peelies and not buying the products and taking ALL of the peelies. So some manufacturers are considering not doing it anymore because its more of a hassle then its worth.Which ruins it for those who do it the right way,and not being peelie hogs…so hopefully this will make some people stop and let others have some too.

I was in a Summerville SC Publix a few months ago, and the stockboy was taking the peelies OFF boxes of brownies as he was restocking the shelves (would have made them .20 ea with the BOGO sale that was going on at the time).
I'm pretty sure he either threw them away or gave them to employees. He handed me two because I was looking at his display, but I would have gladly taken more! I think it is wrong that Publix was taking off the peelies that the manufacturer placed on the boxes.

there's only slight differences, I like having it delivered vs having to go into walmart to get one, I think I've only missed out on a few q's. Im happy with the subscription, I got it for a steal of a deal a few months ago through Jenny, so even missing a few q's here and there doesn't make up for paying full price at wal mart either. Just some thoughts.

I agree with both Sue and fullhouse. It seems that my subscription issue is missing more of the coupons I would and therefore I am also having doubts about re-newing. But like fullhouse, it's nice having it delivered and it beats paying full price at Wal-Mart. I would have to say that I use about 1 coupon a month (some months I haven't used any). I would have to say that for me, the magazine isn't worth the coupons. The same deals will come eventually when there would be a newspaper coupon or an internet coupon available that I could use instead of the All You coupons.

I know it feels like you should be upset, but maybe if you look at it like this….they were REALLY doing us HUGE favors for taking coupons after they expire, so now they are just more following rules…maybe that will help you feel better about it and not be 'unhappy' with a wonderful system that is set forth to help us all save money! I don't want any of us to get angry when they abide by rules that help them not go out of business! I'm one extremely grateful couponer for them even allowing us to use competitor along with mfr. Q's! I'm thankful everytime I leave the store for many reasons! Happy couponing!

If you use a BOGO coupon you are in essance only buying one item so you can't turn around and say you are buying the free one to use another coupon, but you can use a $$ off one for the one you buy….

Start small! Don't overwhelm yourself and try to do a marathon trip using every coupon you clipped.

Everyone is right, look at Jenny's tutorials she has a lot of good information on them. They are not very long and you could watch all of them in less than 30 minutes (with interruptions because there will be interruptions ha ha).

Figure out how to organize your coupons. Some just pull the inserts each week, stick a post it on it with the date and clip as needed. I clip everything, keep and file what I want and then trade my leftovers with a friend for her leftovers.

If you don't want to buy two papers every week, make sure you at least buy two the first of the month. That is when the most coupons come out. The bigger the paper, the more coupons you will have.

Use Jenny's list to make your list and then match your coupons to it. I usually just write out my list (including prices) from Jenny's and then check for the coupons. If I don't have one I ask myself if I HAVE to have it, very rarely I do. I generally will not buy something unless it is onsale and I have a coupon.

I have been doing this for several years so my food/health and beauty/etc… is stockpiled so I can afford to wait on a sale or a coupon on most items. After a coupole of months you will notice your grocery list getting smaller and smaller and weirder and weirder! There are some weeks I buy no meats, but I buy 8 jars of pasta sauce, 10 loaves of bread, 3 bottles of detergent and cat litter. There are 6 in my family by the way so these are amounts we will go through within 4-6 weeks or less.

Watch the videos and read other posters comments and then ask questions where you have them. We were all where you are at one point, even if some don't remember it! =+)

Why is it that all you “ladies” refer to every couponer on here as ladies or girls or women or moms? There are guys that love to get a great deal couponing also you know. The bigger the paper, the more coupons you get. I do not know about your area, but do understand your frustration. Go to the top of the page and click on Weekly inserts and then on regional coupons. You can check out the variations in the papers that you have acess to and decide if there is a better one for you.

I get the B'ham news too. Although there are alot of times we don't get some of the good coupons that other people are getting, there are also alot of times we get the good coupons and other people don't. For instance, with the $5 Hydro q and the $4 Nivea q a few weeks back…we got them but I saw alot of posts from people who didn't. If I don't get the good ones from the paper, I will try to see if it's available as a printable from coupons(dot)com, smartsource(dot)com or redplum(dot)com. I've also noticed that there are some websites that allow you to print some of the same coupons from coupons(dot)com from their site and that would get you another 2 prints when you've hit your print limit on coupons(dot)com. I printed 2 Fiber One Yogurt q's from coupons(dot)com, then printed another 2 from eatingbetteramerica(dot)com.

I've never done this, but I've seen people recommend going on Ebay to order coupons or using a coupon-clipping service :-)

Okay – I was trying to reply to Brecca below but goofed it up!!

the kraft mail in rebate was offered a few weeks ago. You had to sign up for the sample and they sent you a rebate form in the mail. The college inn broth was available last week. Once they hit their max number of coupons available, the manufacturer pulls the coupon. If you live in any state other than FL, your .50 coupon will always double to a $1 (in most stores).

I just tried the Stouffers coupon too – I saw on the facebook page someone had asked and they (Stouffers) replied they weren't offering those anymore. I guess it was a limited quantiry offer and we missed it :( oh well, that's how it goes sometimes.

SS 5/02 means on May 2nd there was a coupon insert in the newspaper called Smart Source and that is where the coupon is. HTH
