    I went to FD this morning and was told they could not take my coupon
    because it was the exact amount of the item which would make it free and
    I would not have to pay sale tax. Apparently, FD does not allow this
    and at first they refused to sell me the product but management made an
    exception and I was able to get the items. Has anyone encountered this
    problem at Family Dollar?

      You should go back and take them a copy of the coupon policy.  Beacuse that is not true.

      I went as well this morning to try and was told the same thing as well as the coupon didn’t match the item.  I requested to speak to the manager and was told you are speaking to a manager.  I didn’t want to argue, I just left.

      I called corporate on our local store yesterday. they r not free cause u pay sales tax. They don’d know how to read the policy per our district manager.

        Please share the number that you called.  I had a problem at the FD in my area.  The manager stated that they do not except coupons for $2 (What?!).

    Just got back from DG…the scrubbing bubbles with 1 despenser and 6 gel discs is on sale for 3.50 tag show 4.00 but rings up 3.50 makes a 23 cent overage after taxes… I bought a filler item and got the overage….The box doesn’t say kit but it does include a despenser and the coupon worked with no beep.

    I went to Family Dollar on Winchester Rd. in New Market.  They said they only got 6 in and one lady bought all of them. I will try Family Dollar next. The kit at Publix was 9.99

    I just went to my local FD hoping to score this sweet deal! Unfortunately, this was not advertised product on sale for 4.00. It was the gel wands…And coupon is for 1 step  cleaner. They didn’t have a spot labeld on the shelf for this product. :o(

      I found the One Step Cleaner on an aisle end cap.  I was looking in the bathroom cleaner section and didn’t spot it there.  Walked around the store and there it was, on the complete opposite side from the bathroom cleaners.

      The coupon works just fine for the gel wands that is what is I got just a couple of hours ago. They scanned just fine. I got 4 of them, a bag of Dollar General cups and three Dr.Peppers (coupon on Dr.Pepper bought 3 made my cost .45 each) My subtotal everything was .35 and I paid 1.22 tax Total = 1.57 :)

      They will price match only if it is in other stores ad, have to bring it with you to show cashier, no they dont take $ or cents off coupons..it has to have exact value, like $1.99 q

        sorry, misread your post, if it is the manufa. q in paper for $4off item they will take it, my mind was somewhere else.lol… they dont take $4off q if it is another store q.. but sunday paper is fine, you wont have a problem

        You don’t have to take in the ad with you.  I price match every week and I just tell them the ad match price is.

          I’ve tried just “telling” them at my Walmart. They still search for the ad and look it up. I mention the television ad and they just look at me and say “it’s because we have the local ads so you don’t have to bring yours, but we still need to look it up”. ….

          I dont like to hold up lines, while they wait to check a ad, plus it saves me time to bring it with me, also if im getting more than one item from different store ad sales at walmart, I wouldnt write it down, for them to check each ad for each price match, where i live, walmart is always busy and lines are long, I just make it simple, on both mine and cashier, as well as other shoppers

        The ones that I bought at walmart have a refill in it too. Walmart dont care what the box looks like as long as it has the same product/products inside the box.

      I just came back from Walmart and I did price match Family Dollar’s ad. I just show the cashier the ad, and she called over the manger, and he price match it for me!

    omg …. flew to our FD.  They had 7 packs on the shelf.  I had 5 coupons … paid $1.70 sales tax !!!  THANK YOU !!!!!!

          Yes, I would have!!! And  I am sure there are others who would not be shelf clearers either. Just curious: If you had had 7 coupons, would you  have bought all 7? Where does the craziness stop?

            Here the thing … honestly …. they give rain checks and most stores have additional supply in the back.  IF both of those options fail … take the sale flyer to WalMart and price match.  So, to answer you question … DEFINATELY !!  It’s not rocket science … just good old fashion common sense.  The Craziness stops when people think outside the box and use all their options inseatd of waition on someone else to figure it out for them.  Jenny gives us all an awesome guidline to go by – no need to panic when the specified store has empty shelves – use another option.

            i am not a shelf clearer… but In my area each family dollar got a limited supply each store only got 8. They will not be getting in anymore and some stores will not carry them past this week and the stores that do can expect the price to go up to about 8.00. So if there was none left it is because there was not a lot to begin with. If you use the adverage number of coupon limit of 4 per person then there was only enough for 2 people. So just keep that in mind. And walmart price matches so choose another option to get your deal. Where there is a will way.

            Honestly, if there is an item that I use that is non-perishable for FREE with coupons, I will use every single coupon I have. Likewise, if I have coupons for items that I don’t use that makes an item cheap or free, I will give them to people that can use them or leave them on the shelf like a little coupon fairy. Sometimes people truly can’t afford to pay full price so they are going to get up early and go to the store and get as many for free as they can. It doesn’t bother me, because if I truly NEEDED it, I would have gotten there first! It really is like getting in line for Black Friday 5 minutes before a store opens and expecting someone who has been there 8 hours to leave a great deal for you. Its awesome if it happens, but don’t expect it!

            IF I had 7 coupons, YES I would have gotten 7…. since I have 20 coupons…. I will get 20… I asked the store to order for me and they did!  First of all… I bought the papers… I cut out the coupons.. why shouldn’t I be able to use them…. some couponers do actually get large quantities to bless others…. not that it should matter

            It matters to me.  It’s so incredibly rude for someone to go clear a shelf (and clearing a shelf means getting more than 5 of an item), because what about me?  I want in on that item, too.  My family is a very needy family, and we barely make ends meet using coupons.  Why is my family not worthy of getting these items, but your family is?  Even if you’re donating the items to charity, you should take into consideration the other people who are behind you who are in the same type of situation but are doing it for themselves instead of relying on others.

            That is why I do not clear shelves.  It’s one thing if there are three of an item left, or even 5 of an item, and you take all that’s there, but 20?  That’s greedy, even if you are turning around and donating it.  It’s greedy because you aren’t being considerate of the next person, who may be in need just as much as the people you’re giving to.  I thought our country had a can-do attitude, a bootstrappy attitude, not a rely-on-shelf-clearers-to-give-to-charity-so-you-can-be-dependent-on-charity-instead-of-doing-it-yourself attitude.

        She bought 5.. not 20. I bought 4- one for each of my bathrooms and one for my mom. It was a good deal and I did not feel bad at all for taking the last 4. :)

    I went and got two. It worked fine for me … no questions asked. Paid .40 cents in sales tax. There are two $3 off coupons in each box (so total of four for me) for the kits… so you could use those and buy them for only a $1 each :) . Thank you for posting I am so excited about these!

      there is also a 3rd cpn in the kit when you unfold the insert all the way for bogo refills.

    So while I was hunting to find these, I overheard a couple of the associates talking about how one lady came in & bought this item when they were $4 & used a $3 off coupon to get it for $1.  She apparently bought all they had in the store.  A little weird for me since that was the only thing I came in there to buy.  Lol.  So I bought two & walked around and picked up a couple other things, using coupons for all of course.  :)

    walmart has them on sale for 3.97, if you use the $4/1 coupon you will get overages and only pay tax! :)

    I called the FD in my area and was very lucky, the lady who I spoke w/ is also a couponer.  She said that I could use the coupon w/o a problem.  She gave me her name and told me that if I had a problem at check out to ask for her.  I didn’t have a problem at check out.  I spoke w/ her after I checked out and gave her my extra coupon.

    Just got back from FD, I dont really shop there, so it took awhile to figure out where it may be..then on lower shelf found 1 left. :) ty..I always tend to be out of luck when it comes to great freebies..Also I saw they have the airwick refills in a wrapped package, buy 2 get 1 free for $10 save $5.. I plan on going back and getting one, also target has a few left, the airwick spray gadget for $4.99 includes a free refill, not bad seeing one refill cost $5

    My FD wouldnt take my coupons for $4 off bc it would have made the item FREE and they dont do that anymore according to their NEW coupon policy that she showed me! So Walmart has them for $4?

    The Family Dollar where I live in FL said the same thing that Mounit98′s said. I went straight home and checked FD Coupon Policy online and sure enough it says they do accept coupons that are greater than or equal to the item being purchased which would result in the making the item free.  I was sooooo mad.  I knew something was up when I found they had 6 on the shelf in the first place b/c I usually miss out on all the free deals. I may try Walmart and see if they will price match.  Never done that before.

      That is very foolish of Family Dollar because they are letting all these sales walk out the door to Walmart, who will not only get the $4 for the coupon but make $.08 on each coupon.  Sounds like whoever wrote their coupon policy had no understanding of how coupons truly work.

    Thanks for the tip Stephanie82. Since they would not take my $4 Q’s at FD, I bought 2 anyway b/c I really wanted to try this product and $4 was the best price I have seen on these in my area.  I checked my boxes and you are right. I found 2 Q’s for $3 off the Starter Kits and a B1G1 Q for the refills. Yay!!! I am going back to FD tomorrow and see if I can get some more for $1 each without any hassle b/c of the $3 Q I hope.  Hopefully they will still have some b/c everytime I try Walmart, they are out and the cost is around $9.00.

They do not accept coupons that are for “free” items that do not require a purchase. I am definitely going back to FD in the morning and get a refund b/c they can accept the $4 Q after all. Apparently, the  Cashiers at my store read the policy wrong too.  Wish I would have had the printed Coupon Policy with with me tonight, but you can bet I will have it with me tomorrow. I know it sounds crazy to be getting excited about toilet cleaner, but these products are expensive and it’s nice to get something for free once in awhile. We couponers put alot of effort in scouting for deals and gathering coupons to maximize our savings and are often made to feel we are doing something illegal by using a Q to save $ or actually get an item for free.   I promise I am signing off now and going to bed.  Sweet Dreams to all my fellow couponers.

    Went to my Monroe, Michigan FD store tonight. That place is like an old school bodega. The place in town that has the poorest selection with a bunch of old products on the shelves – they flat out did not carry that Scrubbing Bubbles product – AND I was unable to locate a sales flyer to price match at Walmart – does anyone know if Walmart will accept a print of the online ad for price matching?

    I know this doesn’t exactly belong here but family dollar also has tide 19-25 load on sale for $5 and we have that $2 off tide coupon. Is $3 a good price for this? I’m a college student and trying to get into couponing.

    Family dollar will not honor any coupons which make an item free.  I’ve contacted the company THREE times and they will not respond to my comments!  Does anyone have a email from the company with their “new” coupon policy?

      I spoke in length with the employees and management at my local family dollar… you can not go in there with a coupon that says FREE pack of gum…. and get a free pack of gum…. but you can buy (for example) scrubbing bubbles for $4 and use a $4 off coupon… you do have to pay tax… coupon can not exceed retail amount of product… btw… my Family dollar is ordering scrubbing bubbles special for me and holding them until I get there…  It has EVERYTHING to do with management and not the policy….. Hopefully there is another FD near you
