Frugal Date Ideas | Why you should celebrate Valentine's DayValentine’s Day this year falls on my favorite date day: Friday! We still have a couple of weeks, so it is time to start getting ready.

I’m going to be honest, having been married for 11 years, it’s tempting to skip celebrating Valentine’s Day. My frugal mindset sets in and I see it as a waste of money. Do we really want to pay a babysitter so we can go out for a commercial holiday? But then, I stop myself and remember why it’s important.

If you think I’m crazy and you love Valentine’s Day, don’t worry, next week we are going to find some awesome date and gift ideas.

Here are 10 reasons to celebrate Valentine’s Day:

1.) Whether you have been married for 2 months or 20 years, you have to keep your spouse a priority. It’s easy when life gets busy to putting dating aside, but that is when you actually need dates the most.

2.) It’s a great opportunity to do something nice for your spouse. Valentine’s Day forces you to stop and think about someone else. You have an opportunity to do something your spouse will love… like buy them a big ole steak.

3.) You don’t have to spend a lot of money. If money is tight, you can celebrate at home. Eat Ramen by candlelight and dance in the kitchen.

4.) Kids love it and your kid at heart self will too. Kids live to make and give out Valentine’s Day cards. Once your creative juices are following, you’ll remember how much you do too.

5.) There are some really fun things to do. Heart shaped waffles at Waffle House? Yes, please!

6.) Pinterest approves. Just search for Valentine’s Day on Pinterest. You’ll be amazed at all of the great ideas. To get you started, you can see my Pinterest board here.

7.) It reminds us that love and marriage are important. Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating love! Jump on the bandwagon and feel like a newlywed with a huge crush on your spouse again.

8.) You get to eat lots of chocolate. That’s right, chocolate. Chocolate cupcakes, chocolate candy, chocolate covered strawberries, the choice is yours (or your spouse’s if they are buying it, but you can drop hints).

9.) There are coupons! You can print coupons for dinner, chocolate, and gifts.

10.) It’s a great opportunity to show your kids that you love their dad. It’s good for kids to see that their parents love each other and gives them a sense of stability.

Check back next Friday for a ton of frugal ideas of how to celebrate Valentine’s Day!
