I love how unusual their names always are…I still remember that one of my dolls from childhood was named Candy Lona! Everyone near Georgia should make a trip to Babyland General sometime to see them “born”!

    • leilapearcy

I don’t remember the name of the doll, but I had a Cabbage Patch that drank from her special cup and talked to me. Her mouth moved and everything. I loved that doll and still have her!!

    • We live in GA and would always love going to Babyland General. We would go for their Easter Egg hunts and now I love taking my children there! My grandmother always kept 4 cabbage patch dolls. Two boys and 2 girls each for my sister and I. Now my parents have the dolls and my kids love playing with them when they get to visit my parents! Oh, and I love the way they smell! :)

Can’t wait to pass down the tradition!

I don’t have a favorite Cabbage Patch doll, but my favorite memory of them is from my parents, when they went to get the Cabbage Patch dolls, one for my sister and me. My dad had already searched everywhere to get us the must have toy that first Christmas. He finally scored two and after he got them in his cart, someone snatched them out while he was looking at something else! He didn’t tell my mom what had happened because he felt silly he had let that happen. Luckily, and kinda Christmas magic like, my Mom the next day had gone back to the store, they had received a new shipment and she picked out the exact same two my dad had the night before. We crazy LOVED our dolls!

I had one cabbage patch doll when I was a liitle girl. Her birthday was sept. 2 The same as my oldest daughter Taylor. I can’t remember her name. I played with her all the time. She had long brown hair. My sister in law found my youngest daughter a doll about six years ago with the same name as my daughter Kendall Leigh. That doll is still in the box I would never let her open it. I went and got her one she could play with so she was happy:)

I lived a few miles from the Cleveland, GA, the hometown of Xavier Roberts, creator of Cabbage Patch Kids, when they first came out. It seems every child had one. Even though I was in my early twenties, I secretly wanted one. They were so cute. I’m now a grandmother and was overjoyed to get one for my granddaughter a few years ago, when she was only 1 year old. She still loves them and I hope to get her a new one for Christmas.

    • delconurse

I don’t know that my first memory of CPK’s was my favorite but was certainly memorable. My first recollection of CPK’s were the shortage of them with mothers fighting over them in stores. I am talking knock down drag out fights with the newscasts to accompany them. I also remember people counterfeiting them or buying homemade versions. My Mom was not lucky enough to obtain one from the store during the CPK craze, but I did have a homemade version called Olivia who I loved dearly. I kept and preserved her to hand down to a future granddaughter to love but unfortunately lost her when my home flooded in Hurricane Floyd in 2006. I have since been blessed with a beautiful granddaughter Mackenzie in 2010 and would love to be able to give her a CPK to love as I loved mine. <3

He got dirty one time and i remember my mom put him in the washing machine and hung him by his feet out back on the laundry line (this happened all while i was at school). I got home and went looking for him. i went outside and just started crying and i remember my mom telling me she was sorry. From that day on until i quit playing with dolls he went everywhere with me! I still have him to this day. My two little girls play with my cabbage patch dolls:)

I am 40, and I still have my Cabbage Patch Kid that I got for Christmas 1983. Like millions of other little girls, my sister and I desperately wanted a Cabbage Patch Kid for Christmas, but they were hard to find, and even if they could have stood in line and got their hands on one, my parents really just couldn’t afford them (times were tough). We spent Christmas at my Grandma’s house, and we knew in advance that we shouldn’t get our hopes up, and shouldn’t expect to find a CPK under the tree. Grandma was on a fixed income. I still don’t know how Grandma did it, but lo and behold, my sister and I both had a CPK of our own under that tree Christmas morning! Her name was Celosia Nietta (which sounded wildly exotic to an 11 year old from Ohio…LOL), she had red pig tails and a navy blue dress, and was the most wonderful thing I had ever seen. At that point, I didn’t care if I had one more present under that tree.I think my sister and I both squealed, then cried from the surprise and joy of having our own Kid! I spent the rest of the day reading and re-reading her adoption certificate, and filling out the certificate to register her and make sure I got her first birthday card sent to the right address. The surprise of getting Celosia will always be one of my happiest childhood memories.

The Cabbage Patch Craze of 1983! My memory is standing in line outside a toy store with my mother and when we finally made it in, I had all of 30 seconds (yes, the store employees timed me) to pick out my doll. It was then placed in a plain brown paper bag so we wouldn’t get jumped for it when we left. Quite an experience for an 8 year old!

    • Momof2girls32

Jenny, I have liked Jakks and Southern Savers on Facebook. My favorite memory of having a cabbage patch doll as a kid was having a real looking baby with a belly button and fluffy yarn hair. I took her everywhere. Now, it would be nice to pass one on to my 2 & 4 year old little girls. Thanks Jenny!

I had a preemie and her name was Heady Freddie. I remember spending the night at my grandma’s house in Iowa and my cousins and sisters made fun of her and said her name was “Heady Freddie Ball Headed,” because she was a preemie and didn’t have hair. It’s always stuck with me and I still have that doll and my daughters play with her now and I still refer to her as Heady Freddie Ballheaded!

    • NTE

My parents waited in midnight lines during that original CPK rush, way back in 82-3: my only christmas gift that year, my treasured Trudy (Gertrude Leanne) was my favorite doll for so long after that.

I still have my cabbage patch dolls…30 years later! My daughter now plays with them. My mother actually kept all of the birth certificates.

    • Bluefisch

My daughter’s baby was named Cassie. She took it to a neighbors house with her and the dog ate Cassie’s ear. My daughter was devastated. That was 20 years ago and Cassie still has a band aid on her ear. They finally replaced Cassie on my Daughter’s 21st Birthday but it wasn’t a baby. My daughter is 27 now with her own baby girl who needs her own Cabbage Patch baby now!

    • I remember all I wanted was a cabbage patch baby for christmas. I begged my mom. Christmas morning no cabbage patch : ( We went to my nana’s house and guess what ?!?! I got one! Then proceded to Grandmas house and I got another one! I was sooo excited! lol

When cabbage patch dolls first came out my parents couldn’t afford one but my cousin got one and I thought it was wonderful. However, a few years later my sister and I were able to each get one and I was just as excited about it as I was when they first came out. We played with them for years. My mother kept several of our toys and that was one of mine that she kept. I have them now and my oldest 2 daughters have played with it before. It is now put away to hopefully be enjoyed by their daughters, if they have any. :-)

    • Donna

I remember this was the first thing I saved my allowance for to buy when I was a kid. I still have that Cabbage Patch Dog. Her name is Shelia Emmy. I had her name on her birth certificate changed to Shelia Ann.

    • Allison

We have one Cabbage Patch baby now, but my two girls both love her, so it would be great to another so they don’t have to share!

    • MonicaH.

I liked for both and my favorite memory is actually one I share with my mother and younger sister.

I was always very organized growing up, all of my CP babies had their original outfits on, with shoes and all accessories. If we ever left the house I had my diaper bag packed with their necessities, and a first aide kit from the cabbage patch hospital, you know “just in case.” lol. Then my sister was born. This girl never cared about the condition of her CP babies, one in particular always left the house clad in a diaper only (despite my having dressed her repeatedly). My sister always lost their shoes, and she never kept their birth certificates in order much to my dismay. I remember somewhat obsessively, trying to keep her babies in order and teach her the proper way of caring for ones CP babies. We laugh about my distress over my younger sister’s laissez-faire parenting style now, but make no mistake, it was a very serious problem to me at the time!

My daughter hasn’t gotten her first CP baby yet, I can only pray that she will follow in my footsteps and be a good mommy, I just may not survive round two of CP babies in crisis.

    • When my son who is now 38 was so in love with the cabbage patch kids when he was 9. He wanted one so bad and there was absolutely no way I could afford to get him one of those dolls. They were dropping them from airplanes and he would wait for an airplane all day for weeks. He finally made a version of one for himself. As a result, he started selling his dolls. Yes…at age 9. He is, to this day, an artist of fabric. If I win one, it will go straight to him. I would take any of them and so would he.

    • I liked both on fb…well actually, I have liked…loved…Southernsavers for awhile now. But Jakks Pacific…awesome.

I remember how hard CP Kids were to cone by back in the 80s! I still don’t know where my sister found one. A dear aunt got me a set of knock-off twins. Would love a brown-eyed brunette baby for my daughter!

I still remember my Cabbage Patch kid. Her name was Geniva. She had several homemade outfits and even a pair a glasses to match her mama!

One Christmas when I was younger there’s a video tape of me taking interest in my CP (the first gift I opened) then getting bored waiting for my parents to help me open other gifts and climbed into a laundry basket (my grandma put it out to put my new toys in to easily bring home). I spent the rest of Christmas Eve playing with my CP in a laundry basket. The simple things!

    • CP babies!

I loved Cabbage Patch kids when I was little. I think I still have mine somewhere. Also I think they made animal ones too?? For some reason I am remembering that. But I remember when they first came out and people were going CRAZY in the stores and I think someone got trampled to death or hurt really badly.

    • Brenda

We visited the Cabbage Patch Kids place in GA and made a wonderful family memory!

    • Chris B

My sister had one and I was jealous so I clipped off all of her doll’s hair – I don’t think she’s truly forgiven me to this day!

    • My daughter LOVES cabbage patch dolls! She will be five on the 14th of this month! I have liked JAKKS FB page and I’m entering the photo contest with a picture of her along with all of her dolls:)

    • Jen

I remember when mom’s used to literally get in fist fights at Toys R Us to get their kids a Cabbage Patch doll (hello 80’s!). Now that I have a daughter, I am planning on getting her one for her first Christmas. They were my favorite thing as a kid and I hope she loves them too!

    • kris

I loved them as a kid & love playing with them still today with my daughter. She has a newer one, but we mostly play with my old ones:-) Michael is our favorite (who is a preemie). We love to keep his original clothes (& mini diaper) on:-) CPK’s are a lot of fun & so darn adorable!

    • noteworthymom

My favorite memory is of my cabbage patch doll named Mary Ann when I was a little girl. One time I left her at my grandmother’s house. I was devastated because I had to wait an entire week to get her back! My sweet grandmother wrote me a letter “from Mary Ann” to tell me all about her special visit with my grandmother.

    • Kimberly

I LOVED cabbage patch kids when I was growing up. They all had special names. Now my 2 1/2 year old daughter really loves them so it is very special. My favorite one I had growing up was a baby I named Nicky.

    • My daughter is almost 3 and loves her Baba’s. She plays with my bald cabbage baby that I had when I was little. It has “chicken pox”, but she doesn’t care.

    • 1. When I was in kindergarten I was given my 1st Cabbage Patch doll. A premie with brown eyes and a light brown tuff of hair in a mint green gown and robe. “Carah” was waiting for me as a surprise at home on the couch after singing in the Christmas choir at church one Sunday night. I loved that doll. She was my all time favorite doll even though I received many more dolls growing up and many of them were Cabbage Patch Dolls. When my husband and I adopted our daughter last summer…we named her Carah! Of course Santa brought our daughter her 1st Cabbage Patch doll when she was only 5 months old…but she loves her now at 15 months.

My mom saved my Cabbage Patch “Carah” doll and recently gave it to me. Soon I’ll pass it on to my daughter for her to love and play with.

      3. I liked the SouthernSavers FB page and the Jakks Pacific FB page.

My favorite doll growing up was a cabbage patch kid – I named her Cara. She was my absolute favorite doll for years

    • Growing up it feels like I may have had all the dolls betwen my brother and I. we even had a cat and a dog i think. i hae a picture to prove us sitting on the couch with them line up : ) good times

    • I liked both Southern Savers and Jakks Pacific. I love the new babies. It brought back so many memories of having my own and watching the tv show with the cabbage patch kids. Didn’t we used to have trading cards with them as well? I’m hoping to get a baby for my now 5 month old baby when she is old enough. Good idea for a present in the near future. She will love it. Thanks for bringing back the memories.

I remember my mama and my aunt calling our local Roses everyday to see if they had gotten any Cabbage Patch Kids in yet. My aunt actually lucked up and got CPK dolls for me, my sister, and both of my cousins. Note…one of my cousins is a BOY! Yes, she got him a CPK boy doll and he was ashamed. I am sure he got rid of it but he should have saved it for his 2 daughters. My daughter does not have a Cabbage Patch Kid yet and I would love for her to have one of her own.

    • Rissa

I had a CPD and her name was MInnie Rox-anne. I still have her certificate of birth. I saved 25 dollars on my own to buy her. My mother made me and her matching dresses and I have that picture but not the doll. I wish I had kept her. Maybe another little girl has her out there:0

    • DawnCDP

My favorite memory growing up was a Cabbage Patch doll that I had that was the same name as me according to her “birth certificate.” I thought it was SO cool. I also loved the movie and the book of CPKs that we had!

    • Tabitha

I still have my CPD!!! My daughter now plays with it!! Grant it she no longer has her outfit or pacifier but I just think its amazing it has survived for over 28 years! We also took our kids to the hospital ( The Original Hospital) Now it’s in a new fancy place! Love it!!

    • Mrs. N

I still have my CPK! Her name is Martha (after my grandma) and my LO plays with her! That’s a good memory

    • Jenn

I always had my CP doll with me…Kathy, named after my aunt. My other doll was named Kevin, after her boyfriend when I got the doll. Too bad she didn’t marry him. It was kind of uncomfortable explaining why her newer boyfriends and her now husband wasn’t who I named it after.

    • Mamaberry

I got two one year for presents. One had glasses just like me :) and another had 2 front teeth. I loved em so much I kept the perfect and never let anyone play with them so they wouldn’t get ruined (And I wonder my daughter is a perfectionist….)

My niece had a Cabbage Patch doll when she was two. She played with her doll daily until gradeschool. Her Cabbage Patch went everywhere with her. To the bathroom, to the store, to the beach, etc.. When I would see her with her doll it brought back memories when toys were just that, toys. To be played with and for some loved.

    • Marie J

I never had a cabbage patch kid, but wanted one sooo badly. Most of my friends had one so whenever I went over their house, I would only want to play with them!

    • rlpugh42

I played with my CP doll all the time. I remember that I loved it because it had the same color hair and eyes as me. I held on to it forever.

    • poyeager

I can’t help but remember Cabbage Patch Kids and smile! I had 2 that really stuck out: a red haired lttle girlnamed Chester (no idea why) and a little boynamed Timothy Allen! I used to drive them around in their double stroller! I also had one of the Cabbage Patch Coosa Pets! We really did think that we were little Mama’s didn’t we? Great memories!!!

I actually never had a cabbage patch doll growing up. I always wanted one, but I guess because there were too many “girls” in my family, my parents never bought them because we probably would have fought over who was whose. Funny, now, that I have two boys…I can completely understand.

Anyway, even though I don’t have an old memory of a cabbage patch doll, I’d love to have the new memory of giving one to an employee of mine. She is Hispanic & has a little 4 year old girl that my mother & I try & get little gifts for her at Christmas, birthday, etc. but I am sure she doesn’t have a cabbage patch doll & would absolutely love one!

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to win one!

    • Toni

Honestly, my only memory about the Cabbage Patch dolls was seeing adult strangers hitting each other and fighting over them in the stores before Christmas. Although such behavor was the exception rather than the rule, it goes to show how popular these dolls were when they first came out.

    • Melissa

I like Southern Savers on FB. Who doesn’t?! My favorite memory of my Cabbage Patch Kid is actually not a memory, but a right now. :-) My neice’s favorite dolls are my CPK from when I was a kid and her mom’s CPK. She’s calls them “a baby.” I love it!

    • brandi

I remember having a cpk doll and how much fun it was to me that it had a birth certificate and came from the hospital like a real baby.

    • Kendra

My favorite doll was named Vanessa. She was my only CP for a long time. Later I received two more from a neighbor who out-grew them. I believe Vanessa is in my parents’ attic somewhere…

    • I liked both. My favorite memory is always having my cabbage patch with me as a child. My dad called it “ugly baby” since it went everywhere and of course had it’s bumps and bruises! My dad still has ugly baby to this day! He said he couldn’t let go of it knowing how much I had loved it. I now have a little girl, and I hope she can have the same bond with a cabbage patch!

My mom waited in line for 6 hours for my first Cabbage Patch Kid in the early 1980’s! They were really the first toy that caused Christmas chaos like that!
It is fun to visit the original Cabbage Patch Babyland General Hospital in Cleveland, Georgia, The babies pop head first out of the cabbage in the nursery there!

I remember my mom literaly having to fight for my sister and me to have a cpk at a store that year for christmas. I remember most was the way they smelled like baby powder so adorable ,I have a 1yearold grandaughter now and Im taking her to get one from the hospital for her christmas present

    • Angela

The first year that the dolls were in existence, my mom had to get the owner of the local pharmacy (they were allowed to order a few) to save one for her. It was a bald boy wearing a blue outfit. I still have him.

I got one of the newborn cabbage patches when I was young, still have and love!!

We got each of our girls CB babies one year for Christmas. Most recently, we enjoyed purchasing a CB baby for our three-year-old granddaughter. We gave it to her for her second birthday. Now, she and her mother have one each.

    • I had a red haired one named pitsy, and a little baby. I loved playing make believe with them.

    • Peace&Joy

I loved my cabbage patch baby! The simplicity of the cloth body made her very squeezable not to mention easy to wipe down. That outty belly button was just too cute and begged for me to play with. And her hair, oh her hair (at the time) was not my favorite, however, I can REALLY REALLY appreciate the yarn hair now that I have a daughter. I cannot count how many dolls were ruined trying to style that synthetic plastic hair stuff that ends up in knots. She is constantly trying to braid (really just twists, lol) and the yarn hair would be an awesome encouragement. But what I mostly remember is the smell of the plastic face even all these years later. Good times!!

He has autism and it helps him relate to other people because I think he thinks it is another boy like him.

    • tori729

My parents got me a CPK doll nearly every Christmas. It started before I was even born – not knowing whether they were having a boy or girl or what I would look like, my dad bought a doll with red hair and blue eyes like my mom hoping I could play with it. So sweet! I didn’t end up with red hair, but I did end up a blue-eyed girl so it worked!

    • JaimeG

My sister and I LOVED our Cabbage Patch Kids when we were younger. One of my favorite memories was a Christmas when we got our Cabbage Patch twins. We spent many hours dressing them, teaching them, and playing house. We also spent hours watching a CBK Christmas special that my mom “taped” off of TV. We were big fans in our house!!! My niece (11 months old) dressed up as a Cabbage Patch Kid this Halloween. My mom knitted her a hat that looked exactly like Cabbage Patch Kid hair and she Trick or Treated with my sister’s Cabbage Patch Kid in tow. Another generation to love Cabbage Patch Kids!

    • Sara

I remember getting my first cabbage patch kid when they first came out. We stood in line for hours just to get one of the limited number that the store had. Her name was Delta and she had short blond hair. I remember wishing I had gotten one with dark hair (my hair is brown) but just to have one was so great. My grandmother made so many clothes for her – it was amazing. Thanks for making me remember how much I truly loved that doll (and still have it – I’m 38 now!)

    • Brandi

I have two daughters, ages 2 and 8. They have spent many days playing with my original cabbage patch kids. I have both soft sculpted and the plastic-head CPK dolls. I was fortunate to visit Babyland when I was a young child and I still fondly remember picking out my first CPK. When my oldest daughter turned 4, my husband and I took her to Babyland and she was able to pick out her first CPK. My youngest daughter loves playing with my old CPK dolls and her sister’s too. I am grateful that such a wonderful developmental tool can play a vital role in my children’s lives and give them many fond memories.

My one year old was a Cabbage Patch for Halloween this year. I had a couple “Cabbies” growing up so I wanted her to have one of her own for the big night. It arrived the day before Halloween and to our surprise it has the same first name as my daughter and the middle name is very close to our last name. Crazy coincidence!
