CVS Email Coupon Scenario Ideas

If you are signed up to get CVS emails, then many weeks you will get 25% or 30% off coupons that are good off your total purchase.  These are awesome coupons, but they have a catch… you can’t use them on sale items.  Many folks email me asking exactly what they can use them on.  Rather than you think they are useless I thought I would start to show you just how great they can be.

First: They come on Thursday’s but depending on when you print them, they will be good through the next Wednesday (don’t look at the date in the email it is always 4 days from when you print it).  So you will need to decide whether you want to use it this week or next week.

What can it be used on?
Look for deals in the ad that print ExtraCare Rewards but don’t have prices listed.  On the Southern Savers list that will usually be the deals that have a number of products with prices listed below the deal.   These are there to give you ideas of what to grab and the regular price of items.  While all of these print a reward, the big key is that they aren’t actually on sale.

Here are two ideas of what you could get depending on when you want to shop.

Deal Idea This Week:

Buy:(1)  L’Oreal Eye Shadow, $4.99
(1) L’Oreal Nail Polish, $6.29
(1) Schick Hydro Silk Razor, $12.99
(1) Colgate Optic White Mouth Rinse, 1 Liter, $8.29
(1) Colgate Optic White Toothpaste, 4 oz, $4.99
-30% off CVS email coupon
-$2 off Colgate Optic White, Colgate Total or Kleenex Purchase $10 , printing at CVS Coupon Center
-$2 off Colgate Optic White or Total Rinse, 1 L, printable
-$1 off Colgate Optic White mouthwash, toothpaste or toothbrush (CVS manufacturer coupon) printable
-$2 off L’Oreal cosmetic face item, RP 9/15
-$2 off L’Oreal product, new registrants printable
-$3 off Schick Quattro or Hydro razor or refill, SS 10/06
Total Due: $14.28

Get Back: $12 ECB

That makes it $2.28 for everything after rewards or 45¢ each!   Not too shabby for a coupon you thought wasn’t worth much!!  See all the deals for this week and make a shopping list.

Deal Idea Next Week:

(3)  L’Oreal Eye Shadow, $4.99
(1) Gillette Venus Razor, 1 ct., $7.29
(2) Scope Classic Rinse, 1 L, $5.29
-$4/$12 Cosmetic Purchase, printing at CVS Coupon Center
-30% off CVS email coupon
-$3 off Gillette Venus razor, excl trial size, PG 9/29 (exp 10/31)
(2) -$2 off L’Oreal product, new registrants printable
-$2 off L’Oreal cosmetic face item, RP 9/15
(2) -$1.50 off Scope mouthwash, 750 mL+, PG 10/27
Total Due: $8.19

Get Back: $13 ECB

You make $4.81 profit!!  I know you’re thinking, I don’t need all these things (I’ve heard all the excuses).  Maybe you don’t, but if I offered to give you all these items and pay you almost $5 to take them would you not take them?  See all the deals for next week and go ahead and make your shopping list.

Heads up: CVS email coupons are specific to your card.  You can’t share it with friends or even use it twice on the same card.

I’m going to try to use my 30% coupon on “As Seen On TV items” that my kids have on their Christmas list!

      • mom2kurlyt

        Great idea!

    • GUEST

Once upon a time I would get these coupons to use IN STORE but all I get now are percentage coupons to use online. I’ve never shopped on line (and won’t since there are three CVS stores within 1 to 2 miles of my home) so I don’t know why I only get the ones to use on line instead of the store.

      • VP22

I wish I could thumbs up your comment 100 times. I am in the same boat :-(

      • esyke623

Me too. All I ever get anymore is online coupons. :/

      • anon

Try signing up for a new CVS card; I think Jenny posted about this the other day.

    • melissa

You can also use them on items that never go on sale. I have used them on the little bottles of stuff my poor DH had to drink for his colonoscopy and the pills he had to take because of surgeries like dulcalax and colace.

Using them on ECB deals that don’t have sale prices in the ultimate though!

    • Stacy

I always stock up on baby formula when the 30% off coupon arrives (usually once a month.) Buy 4 Enfamil at $25.99/container. Use 30% off plus (4) $5 off coupons. 4 containers for roughly $55! Now that’s a bargain!

      • Jamie

Where do you get the $5 off coupons for the formula?

      • Jamie

Where do you get the $5 off coupons for the formula?

        • goblynn

It’s been a while since I had babies in the house, but many manufacturers will send you coupons by mail. Nestle Goodstart was a frequent sender to my house–I’m sure you could check their sites.

        • esyke623

I signed up for Enfamil and similac strong Moms program on their website, and they always mail me $5 formula checks. The neat thing is, they are “checks,” not coupons, so you can also use a coupon, paired with the $5 check.

      • esyke623

I always did that with Similac, also! If you get the $10 off $50 you can also stack! Granted, it takes a little from the % off, but I used to get formula for $9 a container!

      • Brandi

I found that the CVS brand formula is great. I read up about generic formula before we tried it and my son loved it. Last week got 2 containers at 14.99 each as part of the baby deal along with 2 huggies wipes at 5.99 each. $5/2 CVS q for formula. (2) $0.75 qs for wipes. $15 ECB back. $20.46 for all!

    • clairewait

I could be wrong, but I’m fairly certain they don’t work on anything that has ECB deal, even if the item is on sale. Don’t they say “not valid with other promos?” or something like that?

      • mom2kurlyt

You can use it on items that yield ECB, but not on items that are on sale. But only for ECB deals that don’t have sale prices.

        • esyke623

Exactly. If it’s on sale, EBC or not, no % off. If it’s regular price, ECB or not, you can use the % off. I’ve tried it.

          • mom2kurlyt

Hmm, it works for me all the time. Not sure why it doesn’t work for you. I get my best deals with it.

            • esyke623

No– I meant you are exactly right, mom2kurlyt. Sorry if that was confusing, the way I wrote it. I meant that it works for me– if it’s not on sale, even if it has ECB coming from it, the % off works. It works for me too! :) Sorry if that was confusing! :)

      • mom2kurlyt

You can use it on items that yield ECB, but not on items that are on sale. But only for ECB deals that don’t have sale prices.

      • Amy

I always thought the same thing until I was reading a forum on another coupon blog with others sharing amazing savings using them. They work with any regularly priced item even if they produce ECB. I’ve used several myself and it significantly increased my savings.

      • savannahm0m

If the price is listed in the flyer, then the coupon will not come off. But, in the past it has always worked for me on the regular priced deals with ECBs.

      • me

i live in sc but close to georgia and one day i went to savannah goergia and over there i was told you can not use the % with items that give you ECBs even if this item is not on sale! I was in shock to heard this because I never have this problem in sc, I explain that to her and she said,THEY SPOILED YOU OVER THERE” i was confused if is the same company why is different? i guess every state is different. any ways im glad i live in sc

      • Palmettogirl

I used the 30% off coupon on items with ECB’s and it worked on all of them. I was surprised because the young lady checking me out asked if wanted to use the coupon. She said it would work on ECB’s if not on sale.

        • Palmettogirl

          I live in SC also

    • clairewait

    • Amy

Thanks Jenny! I love these % off scenarios you post and would love to see more like these!

    • monasch

The email I got said 25% off online only. Where’s the other???

      • VP22

Some people got them and some didn’t. There were those that got 30% off in store, some got 25% off in store and then there were others like you (and me) who only got the online coupon.

      • Thom1977

Well my gmail has been screwing me. I’ve been looking in my inbox and junk mail for my cvs coupon. Couldn’t find it. I finally decide to do a search for cvs and there are all of my coupons that I’ve been missing out on. Ugh!!

        • Jillian Tyre

They started categorizing email without warning anyone. I highlight all, go to labels, uncheck the checked box, then go to the bottom of the label list and hit “apply.” There’s a promotions label and an updates label I have to do this with almost every day.

          • Thom1977

Thanks. I never noticed the different tabs. That was not cool gmail… not cool at all.

    • cmk

I use my % off coupon with beauty products. It helps me get to my Beauty Club bonus coupon faster!

    • Erin Odell

I am having trouble locating some of the coupons. The $1 off (cvs manufacturer) printable I cant find, the $2 off Loreal cosmetic face item is suppose to be in 9/15 RP but I only see the coupons for haircare. Then the $2 off coupon for new registrants for any loreal product is not showing up. Its just $2.00 off any sublime loreal product.

    • cayacoup12

About 7 months ago, I just stopped getting emails. Maybe once a month or so, I’ll get an email from MinuteClinic or a request to answer the survey. I don’t get any of the good coupons from the MCM and no email coupons. AT ALL! They say thay it’s based on your shopping history but I go everyday. I buy health, personal care, laundry detergent, oral, etc. But, nothing. Something isn’t right. Without those things, the deals aren’t a good for me. no need to shop there as much anymore.

      • crystalgoodwin3

You need to get a new card and be sure not to tie it to your old email address. I think Jenny had a post last week about how to get new card and all the good coupons.

    • Allie

This post made my day! Thanks, Jenny! I hardly ever use these, because I have focused on the fact that their regular prices are too high anyway. With the ECBs and paired with other CVS coupon, I now see it can make for great deals.

    • NonnieMouse

If you do not need the makeup, please consider donating it to your local battered women’s shelter. They can always use it.
The women often arrive there in a hurry and often can’t bring much. In their fight to overcome the abuses they’ve suffered, a little something that helps them feel beautiful can go a long way.

      • debby

That’s what I try to get people in our local group to do. For the
$4 ECB WYB $10 Sally Hansen
Cosmetics, , limit 1 (excludes clearance)Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Color $3.19; Sally Hansen Diamond Strength
Nail Color $5.49; Sally Hansen Insta Dry Nail Color $5.49; Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Nail
        Color $3.19

Cosmetic Purchase, printing at CVS Coupon Center

(buy any 4 @ $3.19, use $4/$12, makes it $1.19 ea if I did the math correctly. So, it is a GREAT thing to donate. Get your friends to do the same! Thanks!

    • debi

is the $4/12 printing this week or next?

    • caro

signed up for l’oreal $2 off for new registrants but there was nothing there :(

    • caro

I also can’t find the $1 off colgate cvs mfr q?

    • Carrie

Is it scope that will give you the ECB’s or the Crest Pro Health?

    • Dewy

Just FYI, I live in GA and last week I bought 2 benefiber and Crest toothpaste used 30% cpn, $0.50 crest and (2)$3 benefiber coupon n my $2.50 ebc, I paid $11.18 and got back ECB $2 from Crest and $10 from Benefiber. So you can use the % coupon with ECB promo.
Btw, anyone know if I can still use the 30% coupon since its not expired till the 29th?

    • Jen

Used the $4 off $12 CVS cosmetics from the coupon machine with the 30% off. Bought 2 bags of 1000 CVS cotton swabs @ $5.99 each and got back $4 in ECB. Ended up paying about $.20 / bag.

    • Alice

Dang, the cashier told me all items in the ad are considered sale and the 30% won’t apply and I believed it :(

      • ange

I had the same thing happen at my store. I have tried 3 times, even brought the policy with me. They all insist anything in the add is on sale;(

        • Alice

Went to another CVS the other day and just blindly applied my 30% to Gillete and CVS 5 Blade Razor and it works :) Love it , So thankful to have knowledgeable people on the internet

    • jessica

This was an extremely helpful post. Thank you so much!

    • Elaine

I use these to purchase STOCKING STUFFERS and birthday gifts for parties we get invited to! Our CVS has prices comparable to the toy store. On weeks when I have the % off coupon and ECB I don’t need to spend on “essentials” (haha) I will buy small toys and/or candy for upcoming holidays or birthdays. Our store has some pretty good toys; not just junky ones. I have previously gotten nerf guns, super soakers and Marvel and Nintendo themed toys, as well as Disney toys and Crayola items. Just an idea… :-)

      • Amanda H.

        Great idea!

    • Chef Di

Thank you so much for this great info! I couldn’t get the exact deal as our paper didn’t have the face L’Oreal coupons, but got a great deal still with 2 Maybelline mascaras at 5.99 each minus 2 $2 coupons. Plus my razors were more expensive. But in the end, after all that including getting 4 Eucerin w/coupons I made about $2 :-) Appreciate you!!!

    • Lisa

I just went in to my CVS today (Georgia) and tried to use my 30% off coupon with a non-sale ECB deal and the cashier WOULD NOT let me. I even mentioned that it should work since the item was not on sale. But he replied that it was an ECB deal and therefore would not work. I tried again to say that even though it was ECB, it was NOT on sale, but he wouldn’t let me. FRUSTRATING!

Was there anything else I could have done?

      • kaoscasa

That’s ridiculous. I’d either have spoke to the manager or gone to my car and called the corporate number. Corporate likes to hear when minimum wage clerks lose sales for them!!

      • terri

I have found that the email % coupons work best when sent to card! when you do this – it automatically pops up at the end of your transaction and they cannot deny you the discount. If you have items that do not qualify – it will not pop up and be offered.

    • smippi

Does anyone know how to sign up again for cvs email? I haven’t get this 30% in my email. Apparently cvs stopped sending discounts in my email.

    • savannahm0m

I did not get the 30% off, but my friend did, so we designed an awesome CVS trip!

      Here’s a breakdown:

      ECB Received: $10, $3, $5, $5, $10, $5 – A total of $38 ECBs for future purchases! Whoo hoo!

    • laces

Many times I use these coupons for formula. Gerber Good Start is $27 regular price (too high!), but with a 30% off coupon, it comes to $18.90 which is cheaper than most grocery stores. Coupled with manuf coupon, pretty good deal. And since I have been doing that, I typically get coupons from CVS for $5/20 baby purchase. Using all three together is a great deal!
