Many people like to do Easter baskets for their kids, so I decided to see how much it would cost me to make Easter baskets at Dollar General and also find other Dollar General Easter basket ideas. While not everything at Dollar General is a good price, you can often find their seasonal items at great prices. This sure beats buying one of those pre-made $60 Easter baskets from a big box store!
For this little experiment, I am going to be using Easter grass and baskets from previous years (although if you have to buy them, baskets were only $1 and bags of Easter grass were also only $1).
Dollar General Easter Basket Ideas
The Easter / spring section was where I headed first, and they had some really fun options.
This Easter chalk comes with 4 in one package.
They had multiple kinds of card games for only $1 each!
These scratch art items are great for keeping little hands busy at Easter lunch. Four come in a pack.
This puzzle comes with markers so you can color the picture and then it can be taken apart and put back together.
These DIY wooden ornaments are so cute and could be hung on an “Easter tree.”
Decorate the windows with one of these cute suncatchers. They come with several paint colors.
My store had lots of flavors of Peeps, but these Pop-tart flavored ones were the most interesting.
There were lots of color and design options for these tumblers.
These Easter pens actually work and the animals on top can “punch” each other.
These cute little plushes come with a large lollipop.
There were dozens of different kinds of cute Easter-themed plushes!
I picked up one of these cross-stitch kits because it looks easy enough for even a young kid to learn.
These large chocolate bunnies were way cheaper than what I’ve seen at Wal-mart.
This light-up Peep headband would be a hilarious edition to any Easter basket!
Each of these eggs is full of stickers!
Put one of these capsules in water and see what it turns in to!
These eggs contain a larger animal that will get big when its placed in water!
I was shocked that these Oreo bunnies were only $2!
These chocolate covered marshmallow bunnies came with 4 in a package.
These little activity books had mazes, word searches and coloring options.
In addition to the Easter section, you can look in other parts of the store for Easter basket options. For example, boxes of movie theater candy are only $1.
Nerds gummy clusters are a hit in our house, and they have small bags for only $1.25
You can also get the DG-brand candy for only $1 a bag!
A little pricier fore Haribo, but these are good sized bags for just under $3.
These rubber ducks were adorable and only $2 each.
They also had retractable water bottles in lots of different designs.
This Play-doh kit was small enough to fit in an Easter basket for only $5!
What kid won’t love putty or slime that makes a silly noise?
This rainbow slinky would be a great addition!
Bouncy balls are always a hit, and there are 5 in this Spiderman pack.
Squishies are all the rage, and there are four in this pack.
This pixel art, also known as Perler beads, is only $2.
A little pricier, but this mini Jenga set could be fun for older kids.
Hot wheels cars were only $1.35!
There were lots of hair clips and other accessories for $3 or less.
They even had small LEGO sets for $10.
I couldn’t believe these Lilo and Stitch vinyl stickers were only $1!
There are various lollipops at checkout for only 50 cents each.
Finally, there is other candy at the checkout and at my store, they were buy 3 get 1 free!
I didn’t get everything I needed for 4 baskets, but check out what I got below.
What’s shown in the cart cost me about $25 total. I already have baskets and Easter grass from last year. While it’s not quite enough to fill up four baskets, I think I’ll be able to get by with spending less than $10 a basket, with most of it from Dollar General.
