It’s a new year, which for many of us means setting new goals in different areas of our lives (if you’re not sure where to start, check out my post on how to set yearly goals). My husband and I have been following the keto diet for a while and have found it to be the kind of lifestyle that helps us feel our best. And so for my first meal plan of the new year, I wanted to come up with a totally keto monthly meal plan that I could use to get our new year off to the start that we want.

I’m hoping over the course of the year to do other themed meal plans like paleo, vegetarian, etc. If you have a request, please let me know!

January 2020 Keto Monthly Meal Plan

As I planned this keto monthly meal plan, I wanted to find recipes that were tried and tested and that would let you experience the variety that’s available on a keto diet. Yes, it’s a lot of meat and vegetables, but you can eat them in so many different ways! I also included more side dish recipes than I usually do on my monthly meal plans, because I find that having something more exciting than just steamed vegetables makes the keto diet much easier to follow.

That said, it doesn’t have to be complicated. Many of the meals include zucchini noodles, which is one of my favorite ways to recreate the feel of pasta. But if that doesn’t sound good, you’re welcome to just steam some broccoli! Or you can switch sides between meals.

Salads are another great keto option for a side dish, although there are a few guidelines you should follow. Avoid overly sweet dressings—creamy dressings like ranch or blue cheese are perfect for keto, or just drizzles of oil and vinegar. And watch out for the toppings. Croutons should obviously be avoided, but there are even some carb-heavy vegetables that you should watch in moderation, like carrots and tomatoes.

There are also two recipes that aren’t technically keto but which can easily be modified. The Instant Pot Bang Bang Chicken (January 14) calls for a few tablespoons of sugar, which you’ll need to replace with a keto-friendly sweetener (my favorite is erythritol). You’ll also want to serve it over cauliflower rice instead of regular rice. Then my easy oven fajitas (January 23) are totally keto-friendly in terms of the fillings, but you will need to either make your own keto tortillas or serve the meat and vegetables over a salad or cauliflower rice.

Without further ado, here’s the January 2020 Keto Monthly Meal Plan. I hope it helps you get the new year off to a great start!
