Alright, y’all…  Mother’s Day is coming up in two weeks and if you’re like me, you’re still trying to think of a gift so let’s try some Mother’s Day DIY Crafts.  We all love our moms and just because we let time slip away from us doesn’t mean that she deserves a bad gift or worse, no gift, to show her how much we love her.

Mother’s Day DIY Crafts

Child to Mom

All of these crafts for kids to adults could use a parent’s supervision, but they’re gifts any mom will cherish.

The first gift is your child’s artwork preserved on dishes.  Scan art onto water transfer paper, place the decal in water until it pulls away from the backing, and position it on your dish.  Smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles, let it dry, and seal it with varnish.  Whether your kids are just old enough to write colorful scribbles or they’re older and have true artistic talent, this craft is perfect for all ranges of ability!

This tutorial from Better Homes and Gardens only shows the craft for a plate, but if Mom drinks coffee, a coffee mug may be even better.

You to Mom

Silhouettes have been around for a long time ( I can remember them when I was a kid).  Here’s a fresh, colorful twist on them.  Try making the pictures of your mom’s grandchildren… or the whole family if you’re feeling adventurous!

The Nesting Game did their awesome silhouettes the right way, but we don’t all have the materials they did to make them.  Not to say we shouldn’t still try, so I’m going to adapt it to be more frugal!

Take a picture of your family member’s profiles, print it our and cut out the outline with an Exacto knife.  Use the cut-out as a stencil for the face.  Using whichever color paper you want the face to be, go ahead and cut it out with your stencil. You can either glue or tape the face cut-out to your background paper.  You just want to make sure you don’t use a thick glue like Elmer’s which could make the image of the face wrinkle up.  Put the finished product in a frame and you’re good to know!

You have so much creative freedom with this project to tailor it to how you’d like.  You can even make the image of the face in a patterned paper (check out the scrapbook paper section).

Him to You

My husband is always up for suggestions on what he can get me for Mother’s Day.  Does anyone else take that as an opportunity to get some DIY projects knocked off your list?

Okay, so your husband will have to pull out the glue gun for this one, but everything else about this DIY rope ottoman is pretty manly!  Choose the perfect tire from all of the old, forgotten ones.  Give it a quick cleaning.  Cut two circular pieces of plywood to rest on the top and bottom of the tire.  Screw the plywood into the tire with a drill.  Get out the hot glue gun and rope and start gluing away!

Once you’ve covered the whole tire and the top of the plywood with the rope, turn it over and add legs of choice to the bottom of your new ottoman.

Even if you don’t have the time to make a gift for your mom this Mother’s Day, I know that no mom will turn down family time.  Just spend the day with her and she’ll love it!
