Walgreens officially announced changes to their Walgreens Balance Rewards program. We’ve known about it for the last week and discussed it a bit on the Q&A this week, but for anyone that missed the updates… here’s everything I know!
Walgreens Balance Rewards will officially end on 10/31. We do have quite a few rewards deals this month, so don’t panic. The new myWalgreens program will roll out in early November.
Are the Deals Ending?
I don’t expect much to change except the name of the reward and how you’ll redeem them. Instead of earning points you’ll earn myWalgreens Cash (very similar to ExtraCare Bucks at CVS). Your my Walgreens Cash will save to your account and be redeemable on your next visit in the store.
A good change: Switching from a 1000 points to $1 ratio and having straight forward $ amount rewards will make learning their system easier!
What About Current Points?
As long as you sign up for the new myWalgreens program before 1/31/2021 your Balance Rewards will be converted to myWalgreens Cash. If you forget to register for the new program you will lose your current rewards.
Note: They have not opened registration yet, nor have they announced when registration will open.
What We Don’t Know
In all my years couponing Walgreens has changed their program or the rules around the program probably 10+ times… Humorously the changes tend to always copy what their competitors are doing. This new change will align their rewards with the CVS system, and I imagine the rules behind redeeming the rewards will line up with current CVS rules. Right now though this is a bit foggy.
How long are they good for?
Will you be able to redeem them together?
Will you get change back if you pay for something cheaper than your reward? (probably a big no)
Will they act like store coupons?
Will they play nicely with other coupons?
