Most cheese sauces use flour as a base, but if you can’t eat gluten, it’s easy to miss eating that cheesy goodness.
This gluten-free cheese sauce uses cornstarch as a base and it’s great mixed with broccoli (we like to pile cheesy broccoli on baked potatoes with shredded BBQ chicken).
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp butter
- 2 tsp cornstarch
- 1/2 cup milk
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheese
Directions
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Stir in the cornstarch right when the butter is melted and whisk until dissolved.
- Whisk in the milk and continue stirring until thickened (if you'd like it thinner, add a bit more milk).
- Add in salt and pepper to taste.
- Whisk in the shredded cheese and continue to stir until melted and smooth.
