Regardless of your budget and income, knowing how to handle your finances is a skill everyone should have. In the past, personal finance was often offered in high school, and thankfully many states are making it mandatory again.

If you have a teenager who is on the verge of getting a job or going to college, understanding personal finance is essential in getting them on the right track for adulthood. If you are a homeschool family, you could include one of these courses as part of your curriculum, but even if they go to public or private school, you can encourage them to do one of these courses at their own pace on their own time.

While many of these free personal finance classes are geared for high school students, if you never took a course or feel like you could use a refresher, most of them are helpful for adults too!

      7 Free Personal Finance Classes

Making Personal Finance Decisions Curriculum | Federal Reserve Education

The Making Personal Finance Decisions curriculum teaches valuable personal finance lessons grounded in economic theory. The lessons are available in PDF form and are meant to be used with a larger group. If you’re part of a co-op or have other friends with teens, you could teach this course using the ideas provided.

Financial Literacy for High School | Everfi

This course is a digital education program that teaches students how to make wise financial decisions. You will have to make an account to access the free course, but don’t get dissuaded when it says you have to be a teacher. I was able to register as a homeschooler by simply typing in “Homeschool” in the box when it asked the name of my school. I was also able to use my personal email instead of a school email. There are also lots of other courses on finances as well as other topics that you may be able to access for free as well.
