Recently I saw a DIY for a personalized etched casserole dish and I fell in love with it.  I think glass-etched things make the perfect gifts.  I was a little intimidated by the etching because I’ve never used it before.  But, my friend etched her entire front door, so how hard could it be?

Not hard at all!  This is one of the simplest DIY gifts you can make.

Supplies:

Silhouette Stencil
Armour Etch
Foam Brush
Glass To Be Etched

I found a really cute pitcher from Target for $12 and I immediately knew what I wanted to do.  We went home and printed a saying on our Silhouette machine on a normal vinyl sticker with a sticky back which came with the machine.

If you have a steady hand and an Exacto knife, you could trace the letters you want on a sticky-back stencil and cut it out yourself.

Peel out all of the letters from your stencil.

Attach the stencil to a clean, dry surface.  Make sure you press firmly around all of the letters so the etching cream doesn’t seep through.

I added some extra tape to the left side of my stencil (it’s clear) to make sure the etching didn’t bleed over to that side since it had a thin border.

Now glob on the etching cream with the foam paintbrush so you don’t see the letters underneath anymore.

Let the cream sit for 1-2 minutes (without touching it) rinse all of the cream off in the sink with lukewarm water.

Carefully peel off the stencil.  If some of the stencil etched away, that’s okay!

Wash the glass with soap and water and you’re done!  Wrap it up and put that beauty under the tree.  The 3 oz bottle of Armour Etch can be a bit pricey ($10), but for this entire quote I used less than 1/8 of the bottle.  This stuff goes a long way.  You can make lots of personalized gifts with it!
