              Weekly Weigh In

I skipped sharing last week since it was July 4th, but for the last two weeks I did manage to squeak out a 1 lb loss.  I feel like things have slowed significantly from the speed I was losing at the beginning, and the crawling pace tends to lead to discouragement and ice cream.  Lots of things can quickly lead to ice cream…

Starting Weight (17 weeks ago): 202
              Last Week: 179.5
              Current Weight: 178.2
              Goal Weight: 165

To help change things up I changed up my workout.  Three days a week I wake up my big girls and we go for a run using the Couch to 5K app as our trainer.  Two days a week I try to focus on weights/muscle building.  I live way to far out to go to a gym, so my garage is my fancy gym.  Last week I started a new routine for those twice a week workouts that ended up really kicking my tail in a great way.  It involves no weights or equipment so I thought I’d share it with you!

              workout images

Walk/Run for 5 minutes to get your heart rate up
              15 Push Ups
              20 Squats
              15 Tricep Dips
              24 Walking Lunges
              :45 second Plank
              :45 second wall squat
              1 minute stair climbing

Repeat for three full sets.  You don’t repeat the 5 minute cardio, that’s just to get you started and warmed up.

The goal is to move from each exercise quickly with no breaks.  You can take a 1 minute break between each full set (you’ll need it after climbing the stairs).

If your excuse is that you have no equipment or time to get the gym, this should nix those.  I can do the entire workout in 30 minutes and my kids actually will get out and try/pretend to do somethings with me.  The three year old makes me laugh so hard I fall over as she attempts walking lunges.

The first time I did this I could barely walk the next day!  As you get stronger add more to each set and more time to planks, wall squats and stairs.

                  DIY Gifts Car Seat Cover

If someone on your shopping list is expecting or has a small baby, a car seat cover is a great gift. They are easy to make and relatively quick. You can get the fabric needed for less than $20 and have a great gift ready in an afternoon.

My favorite use for them: shut the cover and you have an instant place for baby to nap while out and about or in the car.

                  Supplies Needed

1 1/2 yard of fun fabric
1 1/2 yard of coordinating fabric
                  Velcro
                  Thread
                  Sewing Machine

A quick note on fabric selection: I like to use duck cloth (also called canvas cloth) for the exterior side. It has a little more weight to it to help keep the car seat cover down when it’s windy. For the coordinating fabric, no one will see it unless it’s flipped up so I look for the cheapest solid color fabric available.

                  Car Seat Cover Tutorial

                  1. Gather all supplies needed
                  2. Wash and iron fabric (if you skip this set the cover may be too small after it’s washed)
                    IMG_1941
                  3. Cut both pieces of fabric. You want them to be 35″ wide and 40″ long so they fully cover all sides of the car seat.
-if you want to cheap on this step, find a blanket close to those dimensions and trace it
*make sure the fabric is going in the right direction if you are using directional fabric
                    fit
                  4. Lay both pieces of fabric facing each other. You want the printed side in the middle.
                  5. Pin the fabric in place
                    sew
                  6. Sew around the perminator of the fabric, let’s a 4 inch opening
                    opening
                  7. Turn the cover right side out
                    pin
                  8. Fold in the edges that are open and sew them closed

                  To make the handles

                  1. Cut 4 pieces of fabric that are 3″ wide by 7″ long
                    handles
                  2. Place the fabric facing either other with the printed side down.
                  3. Pin the fabric in place
                  4. Sew around the edges leaving a small opening
                    right side out
                  5. Turn the fabric right side out
                  6. Fold in the edges of the opening and sew them closed
                    velcro
                  7. Cut Velcro the side width as your handles
                    how to place velcro
                  8. Place one piece of Velcro on each end. You want one piece on the top of the fabric and one piece on the bottom so they’ll lay flat when placed together.
                    sew that cro
                  9. Pin Velcro into place and sew together

                  Putting it all together

                  1. If you have an infant car seat handy, lay the cover on top and mark where to attach the handles
If you do not, attach them about 17 inches from the top (to the middle of the handle where it is sewed on) and 11 inches from the side.
                    attach handles
                  2. Sew the handles on the cover. I simply when in a straight line a few times across the center.

Test it out and you’re finished!
