One look at any Southern Savers’ shopping list and you will surely notice the infamous acorn. To avoid confusion on what the acorn means, here’s some clarification.
To fully explain its meaning, we need to remember our goal as couponers: to save at least 40% off groceries and drugstore items. To accomplish this, I will never list the entire weekly ad because many items are in fact really bad prices. The lists are only good deals that are worth buying.
So if all the deals in the shopping lists are good, why bother with acorns? The acorns are for the crazy awesome deals. The wouldn’t-ever-want-you-to-miss-out-on deals! Shopping lists get really long some weeks. So the acorns highlight these deals so you can’t overlook them.
So what does it mean if a list has no acorns? It either means no deals stuck out as incredible in my eyes or I forgot to add acorns (can’t be perfect). Either way, it doesn’t mean that list’s shopping trip will be a waste. The deals are still good and the savings are real.
