This is the time of year everyone is setting goals and starting new things. Whether you’d like to read more or just want a fun way to inspire your reading this year, I’ve rounded up a bunch of new 2025 reading challenges that you could try. These will help you set goals and also expand your reading if you feel you’re in a rut. I’ve also included a few ideas for simple reading challenges you can do on your own!
2025 Reading Challenges to Inspire and Expand Your Reading Life
Goodreads is a popular place to keep track of the books you’ve read and the books you want to read. Every year, you can set a goal for the number books you want to read (and you can adjust it throughout the year!). At the end of the year, it will give you lots of stats and info about your reading. They also have mini challenges and badges you can earn from reading books from certain categories.
Story Graph Reading Challenges
Story Graph is a new way to track your books that provides lots of visuals many people find appealing. They offer a bunch of different reading challenges you can join along with other people, and as you track your books throughout the year, they will automatically apply to the challenges you sign up for.
The 52 Book Club’s Reading Challenge
This challenge encourages you to read one book a week from a list of prompts. But you can always just pick the prompts that fit your reading style!
Alphabet Soup Reading Challenge
This one has you choosing a letter of the alphabet to inspire your reading. It works out to 26 books, one book every two weeks!

1. Ditch cable or extra streaming services

You could try Amazon Prime which is $139 for a year, Netflix which starts at $6.99 per month, or Hulu Plus which is $7.99 per month. There are also services like Sling FreeStreamTV that allow you to watch tons of things completely free!
Even better, head to your local library. You can get TV show series and movies for FREE (as long as you return them on time).
2. Consider downgrading your phone
I know, I know. How is it possible to get along without a smartphone these days? It is possible and you can still get a non-fancy, less expensive phone. If you are no longer under contract, consider the downgrade. Another great option is to get a model that is a year or two older.
