One of the best ways to save on produce is to sign-up for a CSA. CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It is is a great way to eat local, healthy foods on a budget.
Now is the time to sign-up for fall a CSA! With most farms, you will get all of the same produce as in spring, but in reverse order. You will get a bag or box of produce from the farm every week and you pay upfront, so you buy into the risks and rewards. You may get extra things one season and less things another season.
In terms of budgeting, I divide the price of the CSA by the number of weeks we will receive it. I then subtract that amount from our grocery budget every week during the CSA peroid.
In you live in South Carolina, I highly recommend Pickney’s Produce CSA. We used them for years before moving outside of their delivery area. You can meet the farmers and get weekly e-mail updates from the farm. You can read my review of Pickney’s Produce here.
You can find a CSA in your area here. If you are part of a CSA, please share your experience in the comments below.

This week for frugal date Friday, we are heading to the river. Rent a canoe or kayak and get ready to paddle!
You can pack drinks and snacks. This is a great way to get outside and have fun together!
To make it even more frugal, you can look for deals on daily deal sites like Groupon and Living Social.
On a personal note, my husband loves kayaking. Going kayaking with him is a great way I can invest in his interests. You are really forced to just focus on each other.
