Freezer cooking is great for saving time and money. You can make healthy meals ahead of time that you can heat up when you don’t have time to cook. This is a great way to save money because you can buy the ingredients when they are on sale. Since the meals are frozen you no longer have to worry about items going bad before you are able to use them.
One of my favorite things to do is make double of a recipe. If you are already cooking something anyway you can make extra to freeze for another time. You can also freeze leftovers instead of having to try to eat them quickly. This helps you avoid wasting food and time.
What is your favorite meal to make ahead and freeze?

I have a few more minutes left to Friday night before this is late! I’ve been out in Nashville teaching a workshop, and just got back to the hotel. For my savings this week, I don’t actually have anything to share. We stuck close to home and didn’t go shopping. Now that we are farther away from pretty much all of civilization shopping every other week is becoming our routine.
I’ve had a number of people ask me lately how we can manage to not shop every week. It takes a little planning and stocking up. If you are new around here, let me give you the basics on our spending habits.
We buy all of our meat in bulk. So I buy chicken in a 40 lb case, or for beef we go in with friends and buy a cow. Each family ends up with around 150 pounds of beef in various cuts. Seafood is probably the only meat that I buy a little bit at a time when it’s on sale.
I buy a large amount on frozen vegetables and our big starch is rice. I will grab 3 gallons of milk and 4 loaves of bread and that will last 2 weeks. Because there is so much that is stocked up in our freezer it’s very easy to skip a week of shopping.
The other big question I get… why don’t you shop at the drugstores every week. Well, once you’ve couponed long enough you really don’t need to shop at the drugstores but maybe once a month (if that). We moved almost 3 months ago and I just finished unpacking our bathroom. There were 8 boxes of CVS and Walgreens former deals. We have over 25 Thermacare heat wraps, 8 bottles of Excedrin, 5 bottles of Advil, and many more things. Seriously if I bring home anymore there is no place to put it! I go to the drugstores now only for shampoo and diapers. So looking at the weekly ads, next week will be a big week for me at CVS!
