This past week someone in the Southern Savers community asked a great “What’s a good price” question. So I decided we would cover that today. How do you find a good price/deal on Dish Detergent?
First off, this is a big area where giving up a brand loyalty can save you a ton of money! There are some brands that we never see go as low as other brands. A great example is Cascade versus Finish. In the last three months Cascade 75 oz or 16-20 ct. has gotten down to $2.99, after sales and coupons. Finish Gelpacs, Powerball or Tabs, 20 count, has gotten down to 84¢ after coupons! I really don’t care how much you love Cascade, you could basically use two Finish packs per load and it would still be cheaper than the Cascade!
There is one more thing to consider with cost savings on Dishwasher Detergent. You are going to get more loads out of the gel or powder forms. I went to test this and my dishwasher soap dispenser holds exactly 1 oz for a full load. That means that the 75 oz gel is going to give me 75 loads (give or take a couple). Since it is the same price as the 16 ct. packs, the gel is notably cheaper per load — 4¢ per load versus 18.6¢ per load. Many times the coupon will limit you to the type that you can buy, so take that into consideration. If it works on the gel/powder types though you want to consider grabbing that first.
So how do we get the best price?
The Finish Gelpacs, Powerball or Tabs mentioned earlier is a great price because of two things: it went on sale and every 4 months they release a huge coupon. In the newspaper on January 6th we got a $2.15 off coupon that is good until 3/3. This has made for crazy prices all over the place. We usually get that coupon again in late April and September. So… when you get the coupon, get enough of them to stock up if you can!! So far we’ve seen them hit 84-85¢ at Kroger and CVS.
Starting Sunday at Walgreens you can get Finish for 84¢ per 16-20 ct. package!
