You may not realize it, but in the retail world we are already in the “Christmas Season”. Turns out that starts mid September… In the deal world though, I would say that we are always in the season. Saving on presents and gifts is so much easier when you see things throughout the year and grab them at amazing prices.
One other side to saving on things though, is making sure you are taking full advantage of online cashback opportunities! As you shop online, you can be saving a small percentage on every order when you use a cashback program. They are free to use, and honestly there is no reason not too!
With online shopping these small percentage can add up quickly.
Lets say you spend:
$100 on Amazon for gifts
$50 at OldNavy.com
$30 at BooksAMillion.com
$100 at Groupon (daily deals can make awesome presents)
$40 at The Sports Authority
That in the end would get you $9.10 back in cashback in your Ebates account. It may not seem like a lot, but in reality it’s money you are just throwing away by not using a program!
That amount can skyrocket if you are traveling for the holidays. Plan ahead and book online and you’ll get cashback from many sites on airfare, hotel rooms etc.
Oh… and the best part… you can still use coupon codes to save on your purchases. This is just icing on the cake!
There are two main programs for cash back… my favorite is Ebates because it is the easiest to earn a check on. You get $5 saved up from various purchases and they will send you a check. They mail checks quarterly, so you should never have a problem hitting $5. Shopathome.com is another large company offering cashback, they are the same except they only send checks when you have $20 saved up (much harder for most of us frugal folks to hit).
If this all seems Greek to you, watch a video I did explaining it all:
If I go in my girls bathroom I’ll find at least 6 toothbrushes at any time… sadly I only have 3 kids that have teeth to brush. My girls have a love for all things teeth. We are probably one of the only families that flosses every night and will have kids wake up in the middle of the night and floss if they forgot. Yeah, I know we’re weird.
Because of our crazy love for oral hygiene, we’ve partnered with Sunstar GUM to bring you guys a chance to win some new products! Sunstar GUM believes that when you have healthy gums, you have a healthy life and they back that up with quality products. Their mission is to enhance the health and well-being of people everywhere through its four business areas: mouth and body, health and beauty, healthy home and safety & technology.
GUM sent me some products to try out for myself, and on of my favorites is the Crayola Flossers. It’s dental floss that comes in easy to handle shapes, and a tasty grape flavor. We were already slightly addicted to flossing, by flavored floss has only made this worse better. They also sent a Timer Light Toothbrush which is ideal for my 4 year old. She knows how to brush, but doesn’t usually stick with it as long as she should each night. This flashes a light for two minutes and she knows to stop when the light stops blinking.
Don’t worry, GUM has flossers and toothbrushes for adults, too!
Since I know we’re all constantly in search of a good deal, GUM has a discount for Southern Savers readers! Use the code 1012SS for 15% off and free shipping on order over $15.

Through the upcoming holiday season Toys R Us and Babies R Us are implementing a new price match policy.
They will price match competitors’ in-store prices, just bring the advertisement showing the item for less! You can even bring items back up to 7 days after purchase to get a price adjustment if you find it listed for less elsewhere.
Plus keep an eye on ToysRUs.com and BabiesRUs.com! If you find the item you want listed for less online they will price match in-store.
This gives you another option for getting the best deals when it comes to Christmas shopping! Check out all the details.
Check out more Deals for Kids.
Edible Arrangements has a great deal available on their 12 count mixed fruit box! You can get the box for $12, normally $29.
The box contains an assortment of bananas, strawberries, apples, oranges, and pineapple. This would be a perfect small gift or special treat.
The deal is valid through 10/7/12 and is available for pick-up only.

There are many ways to save with shopping online and in-stores, but one way you may not have thought of is getting discounts on gift cards and even selling gift cards you won’t use. There is a great site to check out for this called CouponTrade.com.
As we enter the holiday season (yep, it’s here) you can head online and grab gift cards before you head to the local store or online to buy people’s presents. If you are headed to Target, you can grab a Target $100 gift card online and only pay $94 dollars for it. Then go into the store and save even more with sales and coupons. You’ve already saved some though by thinking ahead and scoring a discounted card.
One hesitation I had was, do they verify the value of a gift card that is posted for sale… turns out they are able to electronically verify each card before it’s listed to make sure it is the value the seller states.
On the flipside, gift cards can make for easy presents to give. So for all of us that end up getting gift cards to stores we will never shop at think about selling them for cash! I have done this twice recently. I was given a gift card to AMC theaters, which was nice but the nearest one to me is across town and I only tend to see movies in a theater once every 3-4 years… so I put it up for sale and sold my $25 gift card for $21. I lost a little of the value but in return I had $21 to use in a different way. CouponTrade.com will let you choose payment by paypal, check or an instant Amazon gift card.
Right now CouponTrade is giving you a chance to try out selling a card with no listing fees (up to $1.75 savings)! Use code SOUTHERNSAVERS, to get the discount. Note, if you choose to be paid via paypal you will still have paypal fees.
Yesterday I decided to test out their sales, so I listed a $100 Walmart gift card for $94. It sold within 2 hours of being listed. I probably should have asked a few dollars more, but overall I’m happy with not having to wait. I know it’s hard to get over the $6 loss, but for me that was money that I could turn around and use to pay other things (like bills).
Either way you use a service like CouponTrade I see it as having benefits. You either save even more on the shopping you already have to do… or you make a gift card more useful to you as cash!
