As I wait for the United States to walk in the Olympics opening ceremonies, I’ll take a break and share our savings this week (I probably have a good two hours until we get to the U’s anyway).
We have been at the beach all week with family. To save money while traveling, it’s all about prepping beforehand! We left with the car loaded, complete with things strapped to the roof of our minivan, and haven’t needed much this week other than milk and water. We could have made it with just needing milk, except that we forgot that water on an island can taste horrible… so we needed water gallons just to make decent sweet tea and Kool-Aid.
Total spent on groceries this week was less than $20 (more was spent in previous weeks as we stocked up). I will confess though that our meals where split up with other extended family members, so I didn’t have to cook 7 meals for 9 people on our budget. I actually came prepared with coupons in case Harris Teeter ran triples, but was disappointed with everyone else when it didn’t happen…
We saved in a few other ways this week, not just groceries. For the last few weeks I’ve been keeping an eye out on Groupon and other daily deal sites for activities and dining deals in the area. We were able to grab tickets for our girls to Super Why Live, and got a deal for the entire family to eat out including 6 entrees for 50% off.
