Going Nuts? I can help you understand coupon terms and abbreviations

Do you remember as a child that chart that we all had and if you did things right you got a gold star?  I would do anything for my gold star, I was just that kinda kid.

Well the gold star mentality is back, but this time in the form of coupons!  There is an awesome new website out called Daily Feats, you set up tasks that you want to start doing (new leafs to turn over in a sense).  Each day that you do them you “check in” that you did them and you earn points…  the more good things you do each day the more points you earn.  In the end your points can be redeemed for great coupons around town.  I typed in my zip code to see what was offered and there were over 100 offers all from local restaurants etc.  (I’m actually slightly amazed by the number of rewards!).  You can also save up your points to earn gift cards to Starbucks, Ebay and more.

So what kind of changes are we talking about?

You can earn points to:

Make the Bed
Wash the Dishes
Call a Friend
Play Outside
Wake up Early

etc. etc. etc.  Really anything you’ve been thinking “I should really start _________” there is a feat for it and you’ll earn points.

You can make this more fun, and motivating, by inviting friends to join your team and giving them props when they do something good too.  You’ll all earn points together but have some moral support as you make little, or big, life changes.

If you get really into earning your points (I’m there once I saw that I could get gift cards for making my bed…) they have an iPhone app so you can check in on the go.

Try it out & Win

Daily Feats is offering you 50 points to get signed up (it’s free) when you register enter code southernsavers50.  That already earns you local rewards, but you can quickly start marking off things that you have done today and want to start doing!

After you try it out come back and tell me one thing you want to start doing daily and you’ll be entered to win a $10 gift card to ebay.

10 winners will be chosen Monday 10/10 (that makes for a lot of 10’s).

This giveaway sponsored by dailyfeats.com, all opnions are 100% my own.

Do you have a grill master in your house?  If you do then I’ve got an awesome giveaway and coupon for you.  Win one of 15 gift boxes each with 15 different marinades and sauces from Allegro.

Allegro marinades were designed to help you take inexpensive cuts of meat and turn into flavorful and tender grilled meats.  They come in a number of flavors: Original, Hickory Smoke, Balsamic Vinegar, Raspberry Chipotle, Bar-B-Q, Teriyaki and more.

If your house is anything like mine, I can never remember to get the meat out early enough to have time to marinade it.  Recently I started doing something to solve that problem.  When we buy cheaper meats that I plan to turn into steaks I go ahead and add the marinade to the bag that I freeze them in.  That way as the meat freezes it is also marinating!  So far this has made for delicious steaks every time with no extra thought required on my part.

To win one 15 boxes, each filled to the brim with sauces and marinades (each box has a value of $125), head over to the Southern Savers facebook page and click on the Allegro giveaway tab.  Give the page a few second to load, then click enter and you are set.  You won’t need to enter any forms or anything!!

After you enter make sure to follow the link print a coupon for $2 off Allegro Sauces.  These are regularly $3.99 in most stores so that makes it 50% off.  Wait for a sale and you’ll have a steal!

The giveaway will run through 5pm Friday and the winners will be notified then.

I’m excited to share with you guys a new opportunity to learn how to save money!!  Next week I’ll be attending a conference in New York and while I’m there I will be giving a 30 minute Extreme Couponing 101 session.  It will be all tips and tricks for savings in the grocery store.  The fun part… the session will be live streamed to the web!  That means all of you guys can watch and learn from the comfort of your own home (I know coming to NYC would be more fun, but that’s a little pricey).  The workshop will be Thursday 10/13, at 3:15 eastern time, I’ll post a link to it right before we start so you can find it.

To make it even more fun, you can follow along on twitter and ask questions!  This is my first ever live web moment so I’m giddy just thinking about it.  Another fun incentive… if you do follow along next week on twitter, we’ll be giving away an iPad2 at the end of the livestreaming session!  Make sure to RSVP for the event so you are eligible to win.

To lead up to all the fun, tomorrow night I would love for you to join me for a twitter party co-hosted with  Savings.com.  We are going to talk about living a more saving-focused lifestyle.  They have a $200 in gift cards they will giveaway during the party too!  The fun starts at 9 pm eastern, RSVP for the twitter party.

If you aren’t on twitter, use tomorrow nights party to get your feet wet so that you are able to ask questions during and after next weeks class.

      I also need your help:
If you have been to one of my in person workshops, you know that it’s basically impossible for me to get everything about saving money on groceries in 30 minutes.  Seriously.  I need some ideas of what you would really want me to cover in this session.  Leave a comment, shoot me an email, leave a message on facebook whatever is easier for you, and let me know what are the most confusing things for you.  Or maybe something that you learned that I should definitely be sure to include to help others.  Any feedback would be awesome!

Trying to save money? Learn the Real Extreme Couponing! Here's what you need to know about gathering printable coupons to live frugal.
If you are still trying to figure out how people that save a ton in the grocery store get all their coupons, well you can’t miss printable coupons!

Printable coupons are everywhere and accepted at most major retailers.  Ask your local store if they have specific policies on printable coupons (ex. only two “like” printable coupons per transaction).

        A few notes:

        • You can’t make a copy of printable coupons.  They will know that it is a copy and they will know who made the copy!
        • If you receive a printable coupon that just seems to good to be true, it probably is.  Learn how to spot fraudulent printable coupons.
        • Everyone always asks how I organize my printable coupons.  I keep them in a small canceled check file, you can watch all the details here.  I really don’t print that much early though, I tend to hop on the day the ad posts on Southern Savers and print anything I might want for that ad then.  I paper clip them together and actually never file them away since I’ll use them that week.
        • If you ever get the message that says “You have already printed this” or “Campaign is over”, they both mean that the coupon has reached it’s budget and there are no more prints available.  We tend to see this on high value coupons that go quickly.
        • Many of the awesome high value coupons are on facebook.  If you are a facebook hold out, read the directions to set up a basic facebook page.

Right now the coupon database has over 3500 printable coupons in it…
