            Million Moms Challenge
I am normally not a big guest blogger on other sites (mostly because I’m busy bringing you the deals here on Southern Savers), but I had a fun opportunity to share a guest post on ABC.com as part of their Million Moms Challenge.  It’s not about coupons or saving money, this time I shared a pregnancy memory about the exciting day we learned we were having twins.

Head over to read the full guest post and enter the Million Moms Challenge gift pack giveaway while you are there. Just leave a comment with your best or most difficult pregnancy moment.

As a mom & registered nurse, it’s hard to know that not all moms have the opportunity for a healthy pregnancy & delivery.  The Million Moms Challenge has the goal of building a million member online community of Americans to help moms & babies overseas.

I’m exited today to a part of something big: a Blog Tour for Shaun Groves and his new album Third World Symphony.

              1st World – Meet 3rd World

Earlier this year I was invited to go with Samaritian’s Purse to Haiti to distribute Operation Christmas Child boxes. This was my first 3rd world moment. I’ve done missions trips with church in the town next door, but have never left my comfort zone and entered what appeared to be a war zone.

Haiti was incredible and life changing for me. From the moment we got out of the airport pretty much all we saw are tents. The earthquake in Haiti made millions of people homeless in seconds and most of those people remain homeless now.

We saw churches that had been destroyed and mass graves, now covered up, holding hundreds of thousands of dead.

I left Haiti thankful for everything that we have, down to the simple things like safe water (and hot showers). Mostly though I wasn’t left with a list of what I have that they didn’t, I was instead left with a list of so many qualities that I saw in these people that we don’t have. These kids are content with an old motor oil bottle with bottle caps as wheels for a toy, where my kids are constantly telling me they are bored in a roomful of toys. Or the wife who is proud of her shelter (tent) and eager to show off the entire one room house and I am embarrassed to show you my messy front hallway.

Today I want to introduce you to someone who was given a very similar experience in realizing how much a 3rd world country can teach us “1st worlders”. Shaun Groves has been a partner with Compassion International for a number of years, sharing across the U.S. the poverty and needs of children and families in other countries.

Shaun recently released a new CD called Third World Symphony that is awesome. Listen to his story behind the CD:

Shaun Groves – Third World Symphony (Ethiopia Story) from Shaun Groves on Vimeo.

Today only while Shaun spends the day with us, he is offering 50% off the physical CD.  Plus each order donates $1 to a Compassion International Fund of your choice: Clean Water, Disaster Relief or Africa Famine Relief.

To grab your own copy of the CD, head over here and use code southernsavers to get the CD for $5.  This is only good today and will end tonight when the clock strikes midnight. (Note: this is only for the physical CD not for iTunes.)

You can even listen to the album first:

This whole blog tour is actually a lot of fun, but to experience the whole effect take a look at the other blog stops (Shaun has hit some of my favorites in the past two weeks).

                Update: This is over now.

Tonight at Home Depot you can get a Behr 5 piece Pro Series Paint Kit for $5 with FREE Shipping!

Add the kit to your cart and you’ll see the price drop during checkout.

For a Premium paint kit this is an awesome price!  I have no clue how long the promotion is running, so if you want it, jump now.

National Gratitude Day is getting closer!  I hope you’ve all come up with the people you want to thank this September 19th and how you’re going to show your thanks!  I’ve chosen the 10 winners of the folks that will be thanking their friends and family with the All Smiles Gift Basket from 1-800-Baskets.com!
