We all know how expensive it can be to fill up at the pump so finding ways to save on gas is always helpful.  Sunoco has several ways to help you save money.

You can get the Free Sunoco APlus reward card and buy specially marked products in the convenience store to save on gas.  Sunoco also offers a credit card that will help you out by saving 5¢ off every gallon.

Many of us know about fuel perks, but Sunoco has their own system set up with several grocery stores.  If you have a Shop’n Save, Price Chopper, or Redner’s Warehouse Markets near you then you can save on Sunoco gas with each store’s loyalty card.

A gas gift card may not be a great gift for your Valentine, but they do make great gifts on just about every other special occasion.  Sunoco has gas station gift cards in $25, $50, and $100 denominations.  These cards can be used on gas or in the convenience store for a snack.

The APlus convenience stores located inside Sunoco gas stations feature a number of goodies like pizza, coffee, hot dogs, and more.  If you’d like to find a Sunoco near you, use their gas station locator.

I can truthfully say that we had a Sunoco near our old house and I went there often as they frequently had competitively priced gas.

I order lots of little needs from Amazon too, like thread- we have a Prime account and find it is much cheaper to order thread or a pattern from Amazon than to drive across town to the fabric store.

    • renamac

I simply try to limit my driving when gas prices are high and of course I use my Bi-lo fuel perks.

    • Raelyn

I save on gas by not running errands unless I am out anyway, I.e., I drop my son off on Wednesday nights and then do my weekly Publix grocery shopping (BOGOs with manufacturer and store coupons – so I save on gas usage and grocery prices at the same time)

    • Lisa Briskey

Keep tires inflated to the proper pressure. Improves gas milage and extends the life of the tires, too.

    • Christina F. Morris

    • Tara H

I do most of my grocery shopping at Kroger to get cents off gallons.

    • Jennifer

I used the Bi-Lo fuel perks in the past now I use their Sunoco Rewards card to help save on gas.

    • tygirl13

I save gas by slowing down. Going 70mph rather than 60mph only saves you about 10 minutes on a 60 mile trip. The time savings is even more minuscule on a shorter trip. Just not worth it to me. I also try to keep RPM around 2 or 2.5, Rapid acceleration kills gas mileage too.

    • KPM

I have a 50 mile one way commute, so I drive my husbands 4 cylinder ranger rather than my van which saves an average of $40/wk on gas. I try to arrange errands on the way home, so I don’t have to go out and drive extra. Fuel is a huge expense for me since I have such a long commute and every penny counts. I also use fuelperks from Bi-Lo and the five to 10 cents off BP gas codes that print at K-Mart

    • I use Bi-Lo fuel perks plus my husband and I often buy things inside the store to help save more on gas

    • Save 3 cents a gallon by going into walmart and putting money on gift card and using gift card to purchase gas :) and using speedway perks

      proper air pressure

We walk as much as possible.

    • paprika721

Conserve gas by changing driving methods, accelerate slowly, cruise to stop at red lights, etc

    • WChristians

I cut off my engine if I know I will be idling for more than 20 seconds or so. It takes about 7 seconds worth of gas to start a warm engine. It’s a small gain, but it certainly helps.

    • Amber

I buy gift cards to shell at bilo. It adds to my fuel perks and is money I would have spent anyway. I also snatch up gas cards when publix has them for $5 or $10 off!

    • barnesfamily

      Use Bilo fuel perks.

    • Qotu

I carefully pre-plan my driving route when shopping, so I won’t back track. I also drive during odd hours when possible, less traffic, less stops and goes; which eat up gas.

    • elainehn

I try to combine as many errands into one trip as possible and avoid driving all over town multiple times.

    • linda

Plan my trips out and husband drives his motorcycle to work weather permitting!

I combine my trips and try to time fill ups to my shopping at Krogers when I can use their gas points to save money.

    • Missy

I drive my prius as much as possible, and use winndixie fuel perks!

    • Melanie

I try to plan trips together. My daughter has to see a doctor in the neighboring town so we head off for nearby errands before and after. That and I really think twice about taking additional trips. I’d love to bike to work but not ready for that yet.

    • Lori

In the fall, I used Walmart gift cards at Murphy which saved 10 cents a gallon but that eneded with the new year.

    • Tammy Parr

When Publix offers the gas cards for $40 for a $50 card I purchase as many as I can and I also use my Sunoco card which is located near my Publix

    • fgschofield

I try to make sure all errands are run at the same time in the best possible route!

    • evildisco

I drive my car very little and what I do to save even more money is take advantage of those Publix gas card coupons for $10 a gift card of $50.

    • Melinda Cashwell Bullard

We live 17 miles from the closest city, so I only go to “town” once every two weeks or around other appointments (dentist/doctor). When I go, I plan my shopping trips in a circle so I don’t have to back track. I also listen to the local radio stations and try my chances at winning gas cards when they do contests for them!

    • I have been umemployed since December 2012, so I have the time to plan my weekly appointments and shopping trips so that I don’t have to go out everyday. I try to gas up when I am in an area that has the best gas prices. I keep my car maintained for the best performance and pay attention to my driving to maximize my fuel usage.

    • Amy L.

When Kroger runs their 4X point special on gift cards, I stock up on gas gift cards to doule the savings! I keep track of purchaes at Kroger and BiLo to save money. Tip: since Kroger savings on fuel is up to 35 gallons .. my husband and I will make a trip together .. put 20 gallons in his truck and 15 in my van … he just puts the fuel pump and the ground so we can move vehicles forward! Maximize those savings!! :)

    • Donna

I shop at Ingles and I try to fill up after I purchase groceries in order to receive their discount on gas.

    • Maureen

I walk or ride my bike to the local market if I just need to pick up an item or two. Leave the car parked!

    • Tonya

When publix has their deals…I use the $10 off a $50 am exp gift card first. I use the am exp gift card to pay for my groceries (already have saved $5) and my $5 off $30 Winn Dixie coupons along Ruth my other coupons. Then use the $10 off $50 gas card coupon. I purchase a shell gas card. Then I use my fuel perks from Winn Dixie to save money per gallon at shell stations and pay with my gift card!

    • Lisa

I use credit cards gives points on gas, I also go to grocery stores to save on gas with fuel perks! I don’t run around as much use to that’s saves on gas. I mainly use coupons that can to save!

    • Amanda D

I find it hard to save on gas and it is so unpredictable. So instead I rely on very careful driving, slow acceleration, and staying at low speeds.

    • pollard1184

I try to fill up early in the week since prices tend to change (usually going up) later in the week.

    • Kathleen Clyde Green

My husband and I carpool to work!

    • Sarah D

So hard to save on gas! I try to cut down driving on the weekends. During the week, I try to combine trips so I am not making extra trips somewhere (for example, going by the grocery store on the way home from work).

    • Diane M.

I make sure to run all my errands at one time on one day only, instead of on different days. I also roll down my windows to save on gas instead of running the air conditioner during the summer.

    • Ashley

I try to combine errands and I don’t fill my tank all the way. The reason for the latter is I tend to reason that I have enough gas to make special trips that aren’t necessary, whereas if I have half of a tank, I am more conservative. I also use gasbuddy.com to see which of the gas stations near me has the lowest price.

    • Emily

I use FuelPerks as much as possible and we take our smaller car with better gas mileage on as many errands/trips as possible. I try to run several errands in one trip if I can!

Also, I have my children ride the school bus as much as possible but with their sports practices & extra curricular actities, I still use a lot of fuel. Thanks!

    • Amy

I always try to get Bi Lo feul perks…..I get a few cents off, but not as much as I’s like. I also try to run errands once during week so I’m not driving all over every day!

    • kelly

I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to telecommute. To ‘win’ the right, we had to build a justifiable case for the number of days we should be allowed to telecommute, and track for one month our productivity, etc. I was able to justify THREE days telecommuting (the 25% increase in productivity hasn’t hurt the case any!!!), and am saving a TON on gas.

    • CatBlue

I combine trips into one planned excursion in logical driving order.

    • KAR0622

I try to keep my speed right at the speed limit on the interstate or highway to increase gas mileage. We’ve also just simply cut down on the places we go. I really look at how far each store is from our house and how much gas I’ll be using to get there. If the gas will cost $3 and I’m only planning on saving a few dollars on a deal at that store, I just don’t go. It simplifies life a bit too!

    • sunshine

I do everything I can to save on gas, my husband put in new air filter, I plan my shopping trips to stores that are close together so I am not riding back and forth. I really need some help with gas. I would really appreciate getting a gas card.

    • Peg Christiansen

I shop at Pricechopper and usually save 20 cents a gallon. and I always combine all my trips that I need to do, in order so as not to waste gas running back and forth.

    • cathy

I do errands in the order they come up and not backtrack. I do a few errands on the way home from the gym

    • Hankesmom

Go to Kroger! They will sometimes double or even do 4x the fuel points if you purchase a restaurant gift card! Yay! I LOVE SAVING MONEY!

    • neseven

golfcarting as an alternative to driving a car. Much more fun :)

    • I simply huddle all errands, appts, etc. in the same day if possible. You don’t drive you don’t waste gas. Only when needed. I have a big suburban, I also park in the shadiest spot I can find so I don’t have to run the ac. I try not to go thru drive thru with a line, and if in line to long I will pull out.

    • sondra

Use fule points, and just stay home!!!

    • Elizabeth

Fuel perks and planning my errands so I have the route with the least driving. Saves time and gas!

    • FLBluefin

Even though it may be a tad pricier, I try to always stick with gas that has a higher detergent rating.

    • Becky

I use Gas Buddy app on my phone to find the cheapest gas near me. A new Harris Teeter near me also has a reward system where when you spend $40 on groceries you can buy a $25 gas card for $20

    • Sonya Morris

I try not to make trips that are not necessary and wait to run all those errands at one time.

    • Sharon A

Shop at Bi-lo. I look for fuel perks bonuses and have my card linked to an FRN card. I get points when we eat at certain restaurants, shop on line and I always buy gas cards from Bi-lo to earn even more points towards gas discounts. I figure for every $50 in gift cards I get $0.05/gallon off and the run specials from time to time and give double or triple points.

    • tmac2013

My wife works 3 pt jobs and does all she can to save on gas and food. She uses coupons and tracks the prices before she fills up.. There is just not enough money to go around, so we dont do birthday or Valentines day. So if she could win a gas card this would make her whole month.

    • ladywild

I use my gas buddy to find the station with the cheapest gas.

    • Jane

just put smaller tires on my truck to help with the mileage

    • Donna

Besides trying to combine errands, I try to accumulate Bi-Lo fuel perks if the deal is good enough with coupons. We don’t do as many Sunday drives like we did in the old days – I miss that.

    • juani

i drive slow and check tires plus tune up

    • Mary C.

I use gasbuddy.com to check out the lowest prices in my area or the area I’m traveling to.

    • scubatown

Carpooling and using the smallest car that we can fit everyone in!!! We also fill up our tanks in the early morning when it’s the coolest so we get the most gas for our money. Winn-Dixie fule perks sure helps too!!

    • Marie

I save money on gas by strategically planning my driving routes, errands and things I must get done during the week. I found that I was running around a lot unnecessarily and once I planned out my week things went a lot smoother. No longer do I grocery shop on a set “day,” rather inbetween my errands during the week while I’m near the stores anyways. It makes sense! (But you need to plan it out so everything gets done).

I also factor in the cost of gas to my grocery purchases and think “is this really a good deal?” when I see a sale on something. It doesn’t make sense to me to drive 20+ miles to save $2 on a bag of apples, etc.

Being smart, planning ahead and factoring in the price of gas definitely makes me and my family more conscientious about what we do and where our hard earned money goes!

I work for a major pharmacy chain, so I do my coupon shopping after work. I also have a Publix across the street from my work and I pass a Kroger to and from work, so I shop at them after work. No extra grocery trips for me,and I coast when going down hill , it saves a TON in gas ! I even have my husband doing it too ..lol. Plus at Kroger you get 35 gallons with the 10 cent off, so when we get 10 cents off, we take both the car and the truck and get all 35 gallons saves a lot in money that way too, because most cars only have a 15 gallon tank and my husband has a big truck that holds about 25 gallons, so why waste those extra 20 gallons @ 10 cents off by just filling up one vehicle !

By planning errands to minimize driving.

    • Katherine Williams

I shop at Bi-Lo and try to accumulate as many fuelperks points as possible before I fill up my tank. I try not to drive too much, but when I do, I make sure to get everything done in one trip. That way, I don’t waste gas making several trips. I also try to keep my load light, because the more weight in the car, the higher the gas consumption. I also try to accelerate slowly because that burns gas as well.

    • I’m a Savings Circle member where I get $25 gas cards for $20 and then I combine it with my Bi-Lo fuel perks to maximize my savings.

I save on gas by making sure my tires are properly inflated by checking tire pressure with a digital gauge every Sunday. This really helps especially during seasons when it is warm one day and cold the next. I also make sure my car has all of its regular maintenance including annual air and cabin filter replacements and 3-4 oil changes per year. Finally, I declutter my car weekly ensuring I am not lugging around unnecessary items in my car which could be impacting my fuel economy.

    • Jennifer

I take advantage of the bi-lo fuel perks. Also use the gift cards. another thing that saves money, in my exsperiance, is to fill up your car !!$1!0, $20 hear and there is bad for your fuel system and you cannot max your savings with your fuel perks. Also Filling up your car before it gets under 1/4 tank will help your fuel lines to stay clean preventing hundreds of $$$$ spent later on. Hope this helps some of you!

    • Rhonda

Use my fuel perks and I try to buy the gas cards from Publix when they give $10 off one with Publix purchase of $25

    • RKilloran

My husband and I have a budget to save on gas. We each get $30 a week to drive to/from work and wherever we want to go. If we are on empty by the time Friday comes and we still have two more days that driving needs to happen before we can fill up again on Monday then we car pool the whole weekend. No exceptions to the $30! :)

Of course I also purchase as many gas cards from Publix as possible when they have the gas card deal.

    • sakura912

My car is currently parked, becauase it is an SUV. I try to get hubby to do the errands on his way back from home. We shop a Kroger only when we have to take our kids to the doctor’s. If there are really good deals at kroger, and I know that I will get a lot of points for shopping that week, I will carpool with my MIL. We keep up on the car’s maintence, and I am in love with the eco light, that tells me, how well I am driving. I price match at Wal-Mart too, since it is 7 miles from my house.

    • thegal

I combine errands, share rides w/friends, use the Publix gas card deals and walk. The price of gas is killing me!

    • Paige P

I love saving gas when Publix runs their gas card coupon promotion. Gotta buy groceries and gotta buy gas — it’s win, win !

    • Olgs

Gas buddy shows you were the lowest prices in your area are, add on points from Giant(for Shell stations) or Safeway(for Exxon Stations) and you get even more savings! And on Thursday’s at Shell you save an additional 5 cents a gallon.

    • Angelia Christenson

I simply keep all my errand running to within a ten mile RADIUS. I realize thats not always possible in some rural areas, but I have a Dollar general, Publix, Walgreens, and RIte Aide as well as several decent take out places and three gas stations less than two miles away. I just watch all those sale papers and plan menus according to whats on sale at each and what i have coupons for. I have a Dodge Ram extended cab and i seldom put more than 25.00 in the tank for a two week period.

    • ahill777

I use the Publix coupons for $10 off. Love Publix!!!

    • Jennifer

      I take the bus to work and back. $30 a month vs $300. It’s a no-brainer.

    • mirachu

I try to make as few trips as possible, make sure that my car maintenance is up-to-date, go the speed limit, do not roll down my windows when traveling over 45 MPH, and make sure my trunk is empty. Yeah, I’m a little crazy about trying to save on gas. haha

    • I do my grocery shopping at Kroger where I can save a minimum of 3 cents a gallon. I have found that Kroger is cheaper plus saves me on gas. I buy gift cards like for Kroger and other places I shop/eat at and save 10 cent a gallon on gas. This way I can maximize my savings and not waste money!

    • I try to combine as many errands as I can on one day.. get it done in one trip into town instead of several. Do CVS and PUblix gas card deals as mush as possible to.. kroger doesn’t offer fuel perks in AL yet…:(

    • Kelly

      Bilo perks!

    • Amber

I try to get gas once a week. I skip going out for lunch most days at work and believe it or not it actually helps! Not running around every day and instead using one day a week during lunchtime to run my errands.

    • Leslie Michelle Hoyer

When going down hills i coast, i use cruise control, plus use bi-lo fuel perks

    • The biggest way I save is by only going to town once a week. I plan my day by doing all my shopping on the same day. I make a big circle around town to get all my shopping done before heading home. I keep a cooler in my SUV and on my shopping days I load up some of the ice packs from the freezer. I also take advantage of the different $ off per gallon to get the best price on the gas.

    • CJTB

    • Felicia

I read somewhere that it is best to fill up in the morning, before the air gets too warm, as the gas expands or something of that nature – so I fill up in the mornings. Also, I try to keep unnecessary stuff out of my car, keeping the car’s weight down as low as I can, so that it’s lighter to move, therefore not using as much gas. I also stock up on Bi-lo fuel perks and the Sunoco member award points, and try to wait until the price of gas goes down before filling up. :-)

    • Connieb03

      I use Kroger gas points

    • Aubrey

      Fill up on Wednesday mornings!

    • Andrea

I map out my shopping and errands so that I’m covering the same ground more than once in a week.

    • Kayla

I mostly use rewards from my credit cards to save on gas. Sometimes my Discover card offers double or 5% cash back for gas, other times I use my BOA Visa to get points to redeem for gift cards (like movie passes!) or use my BOA debit card with a BOA deal to get some cash back at the end of the deal. Plus it’s just being smart with gas, turn the car off if you’re going to idle for more than ten minutes and keeping the weight down in my car.

    • wanda

I save with Price Chopper when they have 2x or 4x bonus on gift cards so I get this savings on gas. Also, at Shoprite when they have deals on gift cards I buy the gas cards.

    • d6140peterson

I always fill it all the way up. I pay attention to the gas prices near my house and in town to see which is cheaper. My husband & I always take my car when we are out & about, because his truck uses more gas, so it saves us money in the long run.

    • Sean

We use the Fuelperks from Bi-Lo mostly, and I stay home as much as I can so we only have to have gas for one car. We have no gas money this week at all, so this is a great giveaway for us!

    • cindy

when I go out I make sure I have a route I use, as to not run in circles or out of my way for anything. I have a 1994 Bucik road master, which is big on gas, so I do everthing I can to save on it. I get as much as I can on any trip out to make sure my gas will last seeing that I am on a fixed income an only get paid once a month

    • momof1

We have a very effective way we save on gas and have been doing it for months now. My husband works an hour away so gas is VERY expensive. We buy 2 weeks worth of gas cards at Kroger (enough to get him through one pay check) we get 2x the fuel points. Then, the last day of every month we take both of our cars to Kroger and fillup back to back. We usually have 1,000 or more points at the end of every month so we save A TON by doing it this way! It works so well for us. Gas is one of the most expensive things on our budget right now.

    • kimberly

I work for a major supermarket chain. Having to travel from one town to another, I simply always carry my coupon book and arrange to run any errands on my way home from work and just leave the car in the driveway on my days off…………..more quality time with family

I own a Honda Fit so most times i can fill up every 10 days. I love my car even though my friends call it a half a car

    • Betty

I usually don’t let my tank get below half of a tank and always make sure I have my tire pressure checked as well as doing all of my shopping on one day versus having to go out running errands more than once a week

    • I drive like the $aving Granny, easy acceleration, and take my foot off the gas in anticipation of any changing lights or stop signs. I leave room between other vehicles and myself, to avoid having to stop at lights. It really does help a great deal on ga$ lost when you’re not going to be going anywhere fast.

I use my points from Kroger to purchase gas from them. 30cents off the pump price once a month is a deal.

    • Do research to figure out which gas stations have the cheapest gas and carpool! And get a Sunoco card- that 5 cents a gallon really adds up!

I save on gasoline by using Kroger fuel rewards as well as with an app on my iPhone that shows the gasoline prices near me.

I use savings at the store for fuel rewards at the pump, every little bit helps!

I save on gas by driving steadily slightly below the speed limit – no jackrabbit starts or gunning the engine!

    • Try to take the shortest route possible, make sure everyone is ready to be picked up at the same time and plan my route accordingly, Continuously check my tire pressures and thread, carpool whenever possible, and never leave my ignition on for any length of time waiting.
