Maybe I’m just behind the times, but back in the day a 5K was just a race where you show up and run. Now it’s all about running and having fun!  One of my favorite 5K runs I’ve seen lately is The Color Run 2013… It’s said to be the happiest 5K on the planet!

The Color Run is a unique race that celebrates individuality, healthiness, happiness and giving back to the community.  The focus of the race isn’t on how fast you can run a mile, in fact, the race isn’t even timed.  When you get to the Finish Line, there’s a huge “Color Festival” with even more colors to get all over your white t-shirt.

You probably think people are crazy for wanting to have color cornstarch thrown on them, but it’s a fun way to mix up your normal run routine.   The color is completely safe!  It’s made from corn starch, so you could even eat it if you wanted (I wouldn’t suggest eating it, though).

60% of The Color Run racers are entering a 5K for the first time.  It’s a great way to promote healthy living for folks who don’t normally do races and a fun way to treat yourself if your goal is to be able to run the race.  Their focus is also to give back to every city they have a race in.  Last year they raised money for over 60 local and national charities around the country.

Grab a few friends or even get your kids involved because the ages of racers range anywhere from 2-80.  It’s an awesome way to celebrate the beautiful weather this Spring and Summer.  When you register in a team of 4 or more, your tickets are $5 cheaper.

Pair it with the $5 off coupon code COLOR5OFF and you’ll get $10 off!  The code does not guarantee you a spot in the race and you need to make sure your city isn’t sold out, so go ahead and find your city and sign up.

If you don’t have anyone to run with, then sign up and join me for the Augusta GA race at 9 am!!  It will be my very first 5K…
