If you are looking for a gift for a photographer, there are a ton of options available! Many of these gifts are maximized if the person has a DSLR camera, but some will still be great no matter what camera you use.
When shopping for photography accessories, it is helpful to know what type of photography a person mostly does, what equipment they already have, and what camera they use.
Gift Ideas
A new lens, $100 and up
Let’s face it, your camera is only as good as the lens you are using. If the photographer you are shopping for takes a lot of portraits, then look for a lens that is 35mm-50mm. This will allow the camera to have a lower aperture, which equals better bokeh.
Light Reflector, $18
Make the most of the lighting. Grab a light reflector to help even out any shadows.
Photography Class, $20 and up
No matter the experience level, there is always more to learn about photography.

External Hard Drive, $60
The pictures you take, the better you’ll get. You’ll also need more memory space.
Another option: a Flickr Pro Account. Get unlimited uploads and storage space for $25 a year.
Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson, $15
This is a great book for learning how to free yourself from “auto” mode. The book covers aperture, white balance, flash, HDR, and more!
GorillaPod Tripod, $15 and up
The tripod works for DSLR cameras as well as camcorders weighing up to 6.6 lbs. If you are shopping for a point and shoot camera, this is a great option. This version works for smart phones.
It is light-weight, easy to use and allow you to take some creative shots.
18% Grey Card, $9
Use the grey card to set a custom white balance allowing for more consistent color.
Lens Pen, $7
Use the lens pen to keep your lens free of any dirt, smudges, etc.
Camera Bag, $15 and up
Get a camera bag that will fit all your camera, lens, and favorite accessories.
Canon Rebel T3i, $399.99 (wait for a sale)
This list wouldn’t be complete without a DSLR camera. If you are looking for a great entry-level camera to capture family vacations, sports, and the kids – this is it.
