This week I didn’t need much as we had plans to be out of town for most of the week.  Instead of grabbing lots of produce that would just sit at home and go bad, I only spent a tiny bit of our budget and got items that would help us save on the road.

Running into a gas station for drinks and snacks gets crazy expensive, so I look for deals on the 6 pack bottles of soda and stock up then.  We can get 6 bottles for $2-$3 at the grocery store or pay $1.49 per bottle at the gas station!  I also grabbed a 6 pack of snicker bars for $1 (my husbands weak spot when driving).

Bi-Lo has Coca Cola and Dasani Water products $2.20 per 6 pk when you buy 5, so that made up my mind where we were shopping (thank you item search).

Total Spent: $12
Total Saved: $10.44

I really didn’t need 30 bottles of soda/water, but it will keep.  This got a car cooler packed and saved a lot more in the long run! I also had granola bars, crackers, and Rice Krispy treats on hand from previous sales. Planning ahead here not only saved money… but we made it all the way to South Florida with only one stop (pretty unheard of for a family of 5 girls).

My other stop this week was back at my favorite place for bulk, the US Foods Chef Store.   They are a restaurant supply store that sells fresh meat and produce in bulk.  It was our week to provide snack for our homeschool co-op.  I needed a snack of fresh fruit for 90 people…  we grabbed 20 lbs of grapes for $29 or basically $1.45 lb.  That’s 50% less than the price in the grocery store!!!
