I asked and over 400 of you answered: What do you really want for Mother’s Day this year? I compiled the most common answers and put together this round-up of what Southern Savers moms really want for Mother’s Day. The #1 request by far: for the house to be clean!
Another common theme in almost all these requests: moms want to know they are appreciated… and they want a break if they have kids at home or they want their adult children to come visit.
What Moms Really Want For Mother’s Day
- A maid.
- Peace and quiet. We love our kids but we also love a little silence.
- A handmade gift from the kids.
- A free weekend alone.
- To be with all my children/grandchildren.
- A day to myself for shopping, massage, and a nap.
- I would be thrilled to get a 50¢ card and/or a post on Facebook that says more than “Happy Mother’s Day” from my kids.
- A good night’s sleep.
- I want my kids and their families to attend church with me then we all gather back at my house for a day of being together. No gifts, just them.
- To know that all of my children are saved, that their lives will glorify God and they will be with Him when they die.
- A clean house, no arguing….and a gift certificate for a massage would be nice too.
- For someone to put thought into a gift for me, like I do for others….not me making a list of things I want so they don’t have to think about it or ignore it. Be creative, original, thoughtful, considerate.
- To have my mom back in my life. Mother’s Day is so hard without your mom!
- I want a necklace with my moms handwriting on it saying “God gave me you” with my kids names under it.
- Time alone
- A night a hotel by myself (or with a girl friend) so I can eat what I want, watch what I want, sleep as long as I want, without worrying about cleaning or cooking, etc.
- To spend the day with my husband and kids, and maybe, just maybe, play some board games without me having to beg them.
- To not be needed for the whole day. Not just the morning or an hour here or there. The whole day. No letting the dog out, no answering questions, no getting snacks or making meals. I don’t even want to answer phone calls or texts. Just. One. Day.
- All my children to come help with the garden, yard, and some house projects for a weekend.
- A clean and happy house. (Happy meaning kids and hubby that don’t complain or bicker).
- Dinner that I did Not have to shop/prep/order/plan/cook/clean up after. Here are some recipe ideas.
- Time with my daughter. A shopping trip or maybe a girls weekend getaway.
- My son and granddaughters to spend most of the day with me. And that I could cook for them.
- To do nothing. The meals are planned. The kids are taken care of and have lots of good play time.
- A meal without complaints. To sleep in. Perhaps a vat of Olive Garden Alfredo and a robot vacuum.
- My car washed and small candles for my bathroom. A flowering plant for the backyard would be nice too.
- Plants for my garden or a nursery gift card.
- Photo book from each of my children’s families.
- To drink my coffee while still hot and not have any one say “Mom” “Babe” meow or bark for my attention.
- Silhouettes of my kids!
- Someone to power wash driveway and front/back patio slab.
- A photographer and photo session arranged.
- Books, wine, and a pizza.
- A spa day.
