Now that Fall is here, my girls are wanting to decorate and get crafty! Sometimes those things don’t fit so well on a tight budget though. Check out the crafts we’ve done through the years that has our house decked out in fall decor and all with things we already had around the house! I promise, these crafts don’t have to cost a ton of money.
Here a few ideas on easy frugal fall crafts that folks of all ages, and skill sets can handle:
One of my favorites (and easiest) that I’m excited to try is pine cone garland. A lot of us have an annoying amount of pine cones with our yard, so I figure you might as well take something that’s a nuisance and turn it into something fun for your home! All you have to do is spray paint them (or leave them all natural) and then tie twine, string, ribbon, yarn or anything else you want to hold them together. If you already have string on hand, this project could be completely free!
Another craft that I know my girls will love is a painted pumpkin seed necklace. They love making their own jewelry, and they can use our pumpkin seeds as the beads on their next piece of jewelry. You’ll soften the seeds, paint them, and string them using a needle and thread. You may need to help your kids out where the needle is involved, but it’s a fun and easy project for them to get involved in.
An old favorite is leaf rubbings. I found a few projects from this blog, so you should keep looking back for other projects. Your whole family can get involved – everyone picks out their favorite leaves during a nature walk. Pick out the crayon colors you want to use and make a rubbing. Then you can hang everyone’s rubbings and display it somewhere in your home.
Using an old paperback book, you can make pumpkin decorations. Just trace a pumpkin shape and cut them out using either scissors or an exacto knife. Dust spray paint on the edges, add a twig for the stem and tie a bow around the top. Prop these on your mantle, or use it as a centerpiece for your table. A friend of mine made something like this in the shape of Christmas trees last year, and she said it was one of her favorite decorations. They’re so different, that they’re always a conversation piece. If you don’t have a book you want to cut up, you can find them at goodwill and other places for 25¢ depending on the book.
Chalkboards and wood slices are both all the rage right now. But I never thought to pair them together. All you need for this one is chalkboard paint, chalk, and a wood slice which you can find all at the craft store (and possibly in your yard).
