There are some things in life that you can’t live without, important things… like paper products, diapers, batteries, etc. Let’s talk about how to save on all of that. If you just picked 5 items to really save on, just think of where that might lead.
Join me Monday, 6/20 at 8:30 pm eastern as we talk about how to save on the necessities at our next live online Q&A.
Go ahead and RSVP to get reminders.
This was a week to be thankful for a stockpile and a rainy day fund. I ran out for milk and some fresh fruit but didn’t spend much at all in the grocery store. I was saving up for some meat I thought we would grab at the US Foods Chef Store next week, but that plan has been delayed.
On Thursday we got home from piano lessons to find our 10 year old lab having a seizure on the floor. I’ve experienced them with people in the hospital but always had meds and help standing by. It’s a lot more scary in your house with no meds or idea of how to help. We got him to the vet and it looks like he’ll at least be staying the weekend. They aren’t sure yet if he had any brain damage from it, he was already pretty sweet and slow, so we are thinking he’ll be even more Eeyore-ish when he comes home.
Here’s Samson from a few weeks ago. Samson vs. the Hexbug
While I haven’t seen the bill yet and won’t until we hopefully bring him home Monday, I know it’s not going to be cheap.
On top of that bill, we also got our annual Propane refill visit today (which runs our heat, hot water, back up generator and a few other things). Getting an unexpected visit and bill over $700 for that on top of vet crisis time has made me want to lock the door and not leave for a month. My guess is we burned through a lot of propane during the floods here last fall when our generator ran our power for 4 days. We just didn’t think about that being an added cost that would hit in June.
I share all of this to remind us all that saving on our groceries isn’t a “if I have the time” kinda thing. We should be saving everywhere we possibly can so that we have money to put aside for expenses, retirement etc. and if possible money to give. It’s a huge blessing to be able to pay for these bills without the worry of how that will affect next month or not being able to pay them at all. To be at that point takes work though and the will power to leave the savings alone!
Now we start to work on rebuilding the rainy day fund…
How was your savings this week? I’m going to live vicariously through you!
Do you have a BJ’s Wholesale store in your area? Everyone I know who has one in their area loves it, and I have something to add to your shopping list next time you head into the store. This would also be great to grab as a some extra for Father’s day.
One of my favorite things in this world is watching my husband be a dad. I love hearing my girls squeal with delight as he plays and tickles, swings and enjoys them. He can get laughter out of them that no one else can.
Consider making your husband or dad a gift basket/box for Father’s Day. Dads like to pamper themselves, too! He works hard all day for us and this weekend I want to let him relax and enjoy some of his favorite things. Make sure you grab Dove Men + Care from Bj’s and pick up some of his other favorites from around town. BJ’s sells these items in bulk, so this is the gift that keeps on giving. If your dad is anything like mine, when he finds something he likes, he loves buying it in bulk.
Don’t forget BJ’s stores even take coupons! We currently have a few coupons for these items too. Check the coupon database to find any you may need.
