When you’re searching for DIY costumes, they usually call for all of the obscure craft supplies from Hobby Lobby. Here are some easy homemade costume ideas you can truly make using things you find around the house. Granted, some things will only be found in the house if your kids are like mine and always have a few craft supplies on-hand.
(Country Living)Lego
A few cutouts in a cardboard box and some plastic cups and you have yourself a life-size Lego. Full directions here.
(Delineate Your Dwelling)Scuba Diver
Grab the goggles, some 2-liters, tape and an all black outfit and you’re ready to go with this costume. You can make it fancier according to what you have on-hand. Full directions here.

Baby Cow
This cow costume goes one step further than your average cow costume with the udder. If you don’t have felt for the spots and the ears laying around the house, color the spots on with sharpie and make the ears out of construction paper. Full directions here.
Safari Guide
I’m pretty sure we all have these items around the house! Grab a paper grocery bag, toilet paper rolls, string, envelopes and buttons. If you don’t have the envelopes, you could make something similar using an extra grocery bag.
Egg Carton Samurai
Collect a few of your egg cartons, paint, string and some construction paper to turn your kids into a samurai.
Charlie Brown
How cute is this Charlie Brown? Rather than sewing the black chevron on the onesie, color it on with a marker or fabric paint.
Paper Doll
I looked everywhere for the tutorial on this paper doll but came up empty. It looks like all you need are a couple of pieces of poster board and markers. Trace your child’s outline on the poster board, design the outfit complete with the tabs and accessories and attach them over your child’s regular outfit.
Box of Candy
You need to be a little creative with a paintbrush for this one, but basically all you need is a cardboard box and paint. If you aren’t artsy then print off a logo and let the kids color it!
Bag of Jelly Beans
If you have clear trash bags and balloons, this would be a fun costume! It might be a bit fun for folks to try to pop them too, so be warned…
