Everyone hates packing. Having good packing tips is key to getting through it. After moving a few times, I’ve picked up a some packing strategies. What are your tips for moving?
Pack an Overnight Bag
Nothing is worse than not being able to find your toothbrush or pajamas after a long day of moving. Pack a bag with everything you’re going to need for the night of the move and the next morning so you don’t have to go searching through boxes to find all of your essentials.
Wrap Breakables in Clothes
Save money on bubble wrap and wrap breakables in clothing or dish rags.
Label “First” and “Last”
You can label your boxes by importance, like marking them “first” and “last.” The first boxes can be put in clear boxes so you know exactly what’s in them and you don’t have to open all of the boxes to get to them. The “last” box can include things that you can put in a corner and forget about like Christmas decorations.

Pack Small Parts in Sandwich Bags
When you take apart your television, bed or curtain rods, save the screws and parts in sandwich bags and tape them to the furniture it goes with. Go ahead and label it for good measure in case the bag falls off in the move.
Pack in What You Have
If you have lots of decorative baskets, laundry baskets or suitcases, don’t forget to pack in those and save on the moving boxes.
Keep Tools Handy
There’s always something to put together when you get into a new place. Keep your tools handy or in a box you’re going to unpack first.
Make a “Moving” File
Keep a file with important documents including moving tuck rental, passports, check books and any documents for your new home.
Pack Heavy in Small Boxes
Don’t forget to pack heavy items like books in small boxes so you don’t break your back moving your entire library in one box.
