A year ago the Dollar Tree started taking coupons. For a while it was a massive headache to use coupons there, but many are reporting that the bugs are gone and employees are doing better with understanding things. I thought it was about time to give them another shot at being a weekly store on Southern Savers.
Tip: Every store carries different items. Don’t spend hours searching for items, if you don’t see something just move on. If you see something that I don’t have here I’d love for you to send it to me and I’ll add it to the list. Either leave a comment or email me at jenny@southernsavers.com.
If you’re not super familiar with shopping at the Dollar Tree here’s their coupon policy.

This post brought to you by Dollar General. All opinions are 100% mine.
Every month I have a new task from Dollar General to share with you guys. This month it’s to discuss our favorite fall activities that we were able to do with supplies from Dollar General. I know for some of you this may seem strange, but we are seriously in our DG store at least once a week if not more.

I have two favorite fall tasks that DG completely helped us accomplish already this season. My first is having family cookouts and making s’mores. Let me be honest from the start, I don’t eat S’mores. I love to make them and watch other people eat them, but I don’t like marshmallows. My girls however would have s’mores every night for dessert if I let them. Living in the country, it’s not that difficult to get a little campfire going and have dinner outside. I ran into our Dollar General and grabbed marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate. I also got hot dogs, buns, chips and baked beans. We added to the fun and invited another family over to join us (if you are going to do it, you might at well go big). Total for our campfire night and s’mores, $9.75 That fed 6 kids and 4 adults. In the end we had dinner for less than $1 per person and no dishes to clean up!! I think we should do this for dinner every night!!

Our second favorite fall activity is porch sittin’. Yes, it’s an activity. I’m actually typing this from my screened in back porch. We love sitting out and enjoying the woods. I don’t however love the bugs that come with those woods. This month all the local Dollar General stores had all the summer time gear on huge markdowns (50% off and another 50% off that price). I stocked up on citronella candles, bug spray and even flower planters with this sale. They had a number of toys too, so we grabbed bubbles and other simple tasks that keep the kids happy while mama is reading a book in the rocking chair. DG may consider all of these “summer” items, but where I live, mosquitoes know no seasons. I ended up going a tad over our $25 budget once we threw in clearance items. Total for all the food mentioned above and 6 bottles of bug spray, 3 candles, 4 planters, bubbles, glow in the dark bracelets and necklaces, plus even a few future christmas presents we spent $27.14 after tax. Not too shabby!
What are your favorite fall activities?
Recyclebank has a new Easy Greens quiz game about eco-friendly practices to earn (20) points. Also, you can take the daily pledge for (5) more points.
If you’re not familiar with Recyclebank, you can earn points through quizzes and pledges about sustainability, plus it’s FREE to sign up!
It’s a fun way to learn, but also a great way to earn points to redeem for high value coupons. I’m excited for the coupon for $2 off any (2) Kashi cereals for (50) points or $10 off $30 or more at Bed, Bath & Beyond or (150) points.
