As we get full swing into the holiday season, there are lots of ways to save on purchases for gifts and many other items. One of my favorite ways though is to start stretching our money from the very beginning! As I decide what we are going to buy, or at least what stores we are likely to shop in I head online and buy discounted gift cards to that store.

I shared a few weeks ago that if you get a gift card you don’t want that you can sell it online and get back cash. We’ll that magic works both ways, one person gets cash instead of something they won’t use and I can get a gift card to a store we are about to shop in for 10% less than the gift card is actually worth!!
Here’s an example to help you understand better. We are gearing up for holiday decorations and crafts, in our house crafts are more important than presents really. I like to make time once a week to have friends over and make kids ornaments and crafts and just let the girls be creative. Crafts are expensive though, so… this morning I went to CouponTrade.com and bought a Michael’s gift card. The gift card has a value of $73.56, but I snagged it for $62.89 after a discount code. So already I’ve saved $10.67 or 14.5% before we even hit the store!! Once we go shopping we can still use coupons and check out all the clearance deals we want to save even more. The gift card we got today is an eCard which means there is no shipping cost and that I’ll have it within 1 day in my email.
