Are you a daily deal site queen (or king)?  With all the little sites now I always worry about how much they can be trusted or if I will have issues when I try to redeem the deal.  I also grow tired of deals on things that no one would ever want…

I was excited though to learn about DealChicken recently.  They are a deal site owned by Gannet, the same folks that bring most of us our daily newspaper.   Being a name we already know takes off the worry, plus checking out some of the deals I’m loving how everything is local and things that tons of folks would enjoy! For my city there are 50% off Philharmonic tickets, I saw private dance classes for $15 (reg. $290) and a lot of other awesome deals! I think some of these could make awesome presents too!  (Pair the Philharmonic with a baby sitter and you’ve got my Christmas covered.)

Head over and check out the deals.  Today’s giveaway is sponsored by the Louisville area, but there are 50 other locations to choose from if you don’t live in Kentucky! Register on DealChicken and find your region, so you can quickly snag the next great deal in your area.

This is an awesome way to find out about great family activities, and high quality services and products at a fraction of the cost.

    The Giveaway:

DealChicken is giving away a $100 Visa Gift Card to each of (3) Southern Savers readers.

    To Enter:

You have a couple ways to enter (feel free to do both):

    1.  Register for DealChicken updates, leave a comment that you did.
    2.  Leave a comment with what your dream daily deal for your area would be.

Winners will be chosen Friday, 11/4.  Check out the Giveaway Winners Page to stay updated.

      Home Depot coupon

Getting ready for the Christmas season? Home Depot is having a fun Christmas Light Trade-In promotion starting today.

***This coupon is no longer available, but to see more coupons go here.***

Take in your used or broken Christmas lights and this Home Depot coupon, and you can get one of the following three coupons:

-$3 off Home Accents Holiday LED Lights
-$4 off Martha Stewart Living or GE Holiday LED Lights
-$5 off EcoSmart or Light Show Holiday LED Lights

They did this promotion last year and it was a really great way to upgrade ancient or broken strands for new, energy efficient ones.

This deal is running 11/3-11/13. Each string that is recycled qualifies for a coupon with a limit of 5 coupons.

Tiny Prints is offering a FREE Holiday Greeting Card to send to the troops.  To send the card to a military member of your choice, head to the Tiny Prints Facebook and look for the Military Cards tab.  Pick the design you want to send, and enter TROOPS11 during checkout.

Note: They will ask for a credit card to verify your order, but you will not be charged.

        This is good through 11/15.

Head to facebook and get a new $3 off Melitta Coffee and $2 off Melitta Cone Filters coupon.  I’ve never had their coffee, but I know the cone filters coupon makes it FREE at Kroger this week.

All the filters are participating items in the current mega event with prices ranging from 99¢ to $2.49 before coupons.

Note: I had to refresh their facebook page a few times to get the coupon to load.  Be patient with it.

Couponing is fun and all, but many times the things that you really need you never have a coupon for.  The biggest of those items can be meat and produce.  When you watch “lovely” TV shows about couponing you’ll notice they never buy meat, it brings down your total savings and that’s just not fun…  in reality though it’s something that we all need (if you don’t eat meat you still buy protein substitutes that rarely have coupons).

How do you save on meat?
I recently sat down and answered that in the following video.

            A few extra notes:

Try looking into places that allow you to buy meat in bulk.  You don’t have to go as large as buying a cow.   If you can’t afford the larger packages quite yet, go in with a friend and split it up.

            • Check out Zaycon foods, they sell chicken, bacon, and beef in bulk boxes.   You just take it home and package it up for freezing.
            • Call nearby processing plants.  Many Tyson plants have a market you can buy directly from and get great prices.

Have an idea of the price per pound you want to pay, basically a buy price for each type of meat.  If you are unsure of prices, you can use the weekly best deals list to see the average price for various cuts of meat.

Lastly, if you like game, call local animal processors towards the end of hunting seasons.  Most will gladly sell you processed deer, turkey etc. that was never paid for.  They have been storing it and would love to see the processing fee covered rather than lose money.  You get a great price on meat, and didn’t have to do any of the hunting!

              Printable Shopping List

Here are some great items that are under $1 or Free that you can add to your Operation Christmas Child boxes! There aren’t a ton of items this week, but you can still pick up a few things to add.

Also, keep an eye out in the main weekly lists for this gift icon Gift Icon that I will use next to any item that would work well for an Operation Christmas Child box.
