I need your help…

I was contacted a while back by the March of Dimes to see if I could help sponsor a team in a local March for Babies.  I checked their calendar and mine and noticed that the one day that lined up was when we are going to be in Tallahassee Florida.

If you are in the Tallahassee FL. area and up for fun on Saturday April 10th, I would love to have you join us at Cascades Park. Registration starts at 9 am and the walk starts at 10. 

You don’t have to raise anything to walk with us, just head over here and join our team.   If you come out and join us I promise a fun time and I promise fun prizes.  Yep I’ll bribe you to join me!

My passion for March of Dimes is from a past need.  Many of you know that I am a mother of twins, our story is too long to share every detail but truly my twin girls would not be here today if it weren’t for Sovereign Grace and for the work, support and research done by March of Dimes.

This is our middle child, E.  born at 3 lbs and her very dedicated dad working to get her out of the NICU.

    I totally am a firm believer in the March of Dimes. I am responsible for getting together fundraisers for my work –in labor and delivery in greenville, sc. Long story short, I have three beautiful children and all three born early and two of those 3 in NICU. (my earliest being my last child at 30 weeks) Anyway, the walk in greenville is April 24th at 9:00.       I too had a little one come into this world too early! My dad was the president of the Greenville, SC chapter fo MOD for many years – I remember ALWAYS walking in the walk!! Amazing how things come full circle. My little one and I will be walking this year in support of the others out there. We were so blessed that our precious child that came at 32 weeks, only stayed 17 days and is now a bubbling bundle of joy. Jenny thanks for raising awareness of this worthy cause!

    Very wonderful cause. I have participated in their fund raising a lot over the years along with many friends. I have been fortunate to have three full-term pregnancies, with the second one actually going two weeks overdue.

    I hope that the March of Dimes is able to find out why so many American babies are born prematurely and put a stop to it.

    Well, I can't come to FL, but I can help!!! I love babies!!!! I have 5 healthy kids and I just can't imagine what some parents have had to go though! It breaks my heart!

    Jenny, I second your passion. My twins were born at 3 1/2 and 3 1/4 lbs. and spent 21 days in NICU. I couldn't even hold them b/c the nurses were concerned about the shock to their sensitive skin. No mother should have to go through that. I can't come to FL but I too will help. FYI, if any readers want to help another way, see if you can donate any tiny blankets (if you knit) or disposable cameras to the parents of preemies. (You're not thinking about pictures when your kid is in NICU.) We rec'd a donated bag and I only realized later that for some parents, that disposable camera may prompt them to take the only photos they'll have of their babies. (

      I would love to find out how to donate knitted blankets. I have lots of unused yarn that I can't make myself throw away. It would be perfect for small baby blankets.

      I make quilts and have lots of leftover fabric that I have kept… they would be perfect to make little blankets!

      Hi! Here's how to do it: call your local hospital and ask to speak to the director of NICU. Ask what their needs are and approx. how many babies they see every three months so you get an idea of how much to do. Some hospitals don't have anywhere to store lots of extra items, and some NICUs get more traffic than others. I got some ladies together from my church, but any group would work, and we had a few afternoon sessions of working on our projects. Once you get a few (think small – most preemies are 1-3 lbs.) blankets together, ask how/when you can drop them off. You can also include a note if you wish. Most NICUs will let you do that as long as you sign it with your first name only and it's not reflective of any specific religion, etc. Sad but true: they also have a need for small, white burial gowns. The group that I started three years ago has donated over 1,000 items! It really is easy to do and is so important to the families.

        This family lost their little girl at 18 months as a result of her prematurity and founded this organization in her honor. You can donate actual support packs to your NICU or use their PayPal button to donate money to help their organization distribute the packs to NICUs.

    I second your passion! Babies are dear to my heart and I have donated to March of Dimes for years. I'm very blessed to have 3 beautiful, healthy children. I work with babies and children born with congenital heart defects. Although I haven't had to go through such an ordeal personally, I have seen first hand what parents go through…Their courage and strength *amazes* me! God bless you and your family! =)

    Thanks for doing this Jenny. I have twin girls who are preemies. (Born at 29 weeks) My twins have a triplet sister who is in heaven that we never met. My girls are just now 13 months old. After three months in the NICU they came home and it has been a journey ever since. I would love to hear your story about your preemies. God blessed us with our girls and it helps me to hear about others who have been down that same road! Thank you for all you do because you have been a blessing as well!

    Our 8th child was born at 26 weeks….1 lb. 4 oz. Not excepted to live, but by the Grace of God and help from the March of Dimes we brought him home from the NICU after a 4 1/2 month stay. I donate every year on his birthday. Thanks for all you do!!!

    Wow! That picture brought back so many memories of my preemie daughter. She was born at 24 weeks and weighed 1 lb. 6 oz. She was in the NICU for 4 1/2 months.

    Donated to this wonderful cause! I have 2 healthy children who have a brother and sister in Heaven. My twins were born prematurely and although God had greater plans for them, the NICU team worked tirelessly with them. Jenny-thank you for all that you do for our families everyday — you are truly an angel on earth!!

      No. I worked to find a location but couldn't get one. I will be there for 4-5 days though so if you know of anything we can try to set up a quick small one. (My parents live there so we are coming to visit for a bit).

    I work as a CSS at Publix, and starting April 1 all Publix stores will start their collections for March of Dimes. Have your cashier add on a dollar or two. Let your coupon savings go to a good cause.

    We lost a son to prematurity in 2004. We were in the NICU for 2 weeks doing the same things you did. We received so much support from the March of Dimes and the Ronald McDonald House. We now have a “Jogging for Jordan” March of Dimes Family Team in remembrance of my son for the last 5 years. We walk in Lebanon, TN. We are sooooo thankful for all the support we get. I don't know how I would have made it with out the help from others.

    My family is so thankful for the March of Dimes and all of the work that it does. My nephew was born on a sunday which was the start of his 24th week. The doctors acutally think that he was younger than 24 weeks when he was born and weighed 1 lb 1 oz. He was so tiny and everything was so underdeveloped that the doctors didn't think that he was going to make it. There were many touch and go times and after 5 surgeries (one was laser eye surgery to try and save his vision) and almost 5 months in the NICU he was able to come home. He will always have some problems but we are so happy that he's here with us. He's still on homebound because he came home at the beginning of flu season but we can't wait until we can have a real family get together and have the whole family there. I've donated to this organization before, but it means even more to me now.

        I don't think they meant to start a fight, only to inform people of something they may not know, so they can make an informed decision. There are a LOT of people who do not know that March of Dimes gives money to Planned Parenthood, and has partnered in research with them in China. March of Dimes has admitted that much on their own website. (The Susan G. Komen Foundation also gives money to Planned Parenthood, and a lot of ladies don't know that either) I think Lifer (and myself) just want people to make informed decisions.

    Just donated and added a few extra for those who are not able to do so at this time!! I was blessed with 3 healthy full term babies with a tiny NICU experience with my third. I got a small taste of the NICU and it is a place no parent wants to be. I have to say though that the people who work there are truly special angels!! I couldn't let this opportunity go by and not help you after all that you do for all of us. I have been couponing for 3 months now and I am not only saving tons and tons of money, but am truly and addict. Thanks to all you Jenny!!! For those of you that don't knit, quilt or have the extra money, you can donate blood, when you do ask them to pack it for premies. Several babies will benefit from this gift of life, it only takes a few minutes of your time and it's free. I can't tell you how many transfusions our son received, my husband was a firefighter at the time and all the extra blood they donated to our son we gave to the NICU. Blood is drawn constantly from them and they have so little blood to begin with. He started out 1 lb 13 oz and was an inch smaller than a Barbie doll, thanks to the NICU nurses, the March of Dimes, and the gifts of life from so many, he is in perfect health, started college and works at Publix.
